If you're dealing with interstitial cystitis and not an infection, my best advice is to drink tons of water. The water will dilute your urine, making it much less irritating to your bladder. Avoid the usual urinary tract infection cures which are highly acidic (Vitamin C, cranberries). Antidepressants and antihystamines can help a lot, too.

I take a cranberry supplement everyday (10,000+) and have only had one bladder infection in 20 months (and I got the infection while traveling and not taking my cranberry supplements regularly!) You can get cranberry supplements anywhere they sell vitamins. It has been the only thing that has worked for me and it has changed my life!

I had been suffering from bladder infections badly.
I was doing all the things the dr suggested and still was in once a month for antibiotics.
I was desperate and frustrated. FINALLY one of my friends told me something that seemed so simple.

'Get your boyfriend to change his soap'.

He was as desperate as i was for things to get better, so he did. He had been using 'Irish spring sport' and I made him switch to a gentle soap, Dove. The difference was amazing! I went from having 12 bladder infections a year, to one every 2 years...

I am forever grateful for that advice

Eat watermelon as much as you can or boil celery ,asparagus and parsley until soft and drink it, more you drink better. Taste is not good but it works, and don't add anything to make it taste better, point is to take it in pure form.

For frequent UTI's put 2 capfuls of vinegar in a hot bath and do this twice daily for a couple days this will help with the frequency and burning. This has always helped me get rid of a UTI

dissolve 2 alka seltzer tablets in a 4 oz glass water. drink up as soon as symptoms appear. takes care of UTI right away. if taken when infection is really bad, drink once or twice a day until infection is gone. works GREAT!

to flush and sanitize your system, mix a tsp of baking soda in 4 oz of warm water and chug it down...use a bit of OJ for a chaser. Great for bladder infection too.

You can help with the problem of frequent urination by consciously making sure that your bladder is as empty as possible.

When finished urinating (for women) stand up and slowly twist your body from side to side.

Sit down again and lean forward on the seat, and squeeze out the last few drops of urine. You'll find that there's always a little more left to go after you thought you were finished.

Doing this will assure that you'll have a longer amount of time before having to use the restroom again :) Works for me!!

I used to get bladder and kidney infections when I was little, until we figured out that I had a birth defect.. then we found ways to at least keep them at bay.
Dont wear nylon swimsuits or panties all day, or for extended periods of time.
Drink at least a small glass of cranberry juice daily.
Drink mostly light colored fluids, rather than dark ones (except cranberry juice)
Clean your privates thoroughly after sex.
After going to the toilet, wipe ONLY from the front to the back. NEVER wipe the poop towards the pee. This is a big cause of bladder infections. Just get a smaller chunk of TP and wipe once, then toss, then another piece, and another, until you feel dry.
DONT use scented tampons or maxipads.
Dont spray perfume in your undies.
Try to wear looser cut pants/ shorts, or just wear skirts for a while, and cotton undies.
Douching might be okay, but its more about the urethra than the vagina, so just keep that urethra area clean.
