6 Home Remedies for Itchy Scalp

I have really thick hair and if I don't dry it properly after washing, my scalp gets all itchy and flakey. I also get this when I am stressed out! I don't think it's dandruff. Anyway, whatever it is the remedy below works...
Mix drops of tea tree oil, drops of peppermint oil and tablespoons of organic coconut oil together. Apply on scalp and let sit for 20-30 mins, rinse it out with shampoo.

For mildly itchy scalp herbal essential oils like peppermint, sage, tea tree, eucalyptus, etc. can alleviate itch when massaged into scalp. Some of these are quite strong and usually better to dilute them (if 100%) with milder oil...usually by 1/3 or 1/2.

For intense, persistent itch (possibly due to mites or scabies) try heating afflicted area with a hair dryer. Keeping it kinda close moving slightly and warming area throughly over say 15-20 minutes, letting area become mildly hot briefly, at times, only so much that it hurts just a bit.

Also if food grade diatomaceous earth is available - lightly dust itchy part of scalp and gently rub in, prior to heat treatment.

Boonzai

Massage the scalp with coconut or olive oil, extra virgin if you can. The relief is instantaneous. Let it sit for at least 30 minuts then wash it with shampoo.
If you're into no-poo (no shampoo), a wash with a 5% baking soda solution (50g/L) followed by a 25%-dilution Bagger's apple cider vinegar solution (250ml ACV + 750 ml water) will do.

Cherry

Get a shampoo and/or conditioner that has Tea Tree oil in it (or buy Tea Tree oil separately and pour a few capfuls in your current shampoo/conditioner, then shake well to mix it). Tea tree oil is great for an itchy scalp and it'll help with dandruff too. It doesn't strip your hair of its natural oils nor will it dull your colored hair the way dandruff shampoo does.

Buy head and shoulders itchy scalp care, both shampoo and conditioner. (Advanced one works better)

Occasionally I suffer from an itchy scalp and I use a product called 'Skeeter Stik' (it's really for relief of insect bites but I find it works on my itchy scalp as well)! It is hard to find in drugstores but I just purchased some through Amazon.com--of all places. You could also use a Benedryl stick but I like Skeeter Stik better and besides, its easier to dispense. It will numb the itching.
