Just like the Alka-seltzer Baking Soda does the trick. I put one teaspoon into a liter of water (the amount of water isn't important but you should be drinking a lot of water anyhow).

Drink 1 tsp twice a day until your UTI is gone. Then another dose or two for good measure.

This raises the PH in your urinary tract so the bacteria can't survive.

Prevention of urinary tract infection
• Always maintain good personal hygiene. Keep the vaginal areas clean, always wipe from the front to back after a bowel movement to prevent contamination of the urinary tract.
• Wear cotton undergarments, which allow air circulation and discourage the warm, moist environment needed for bacteria growth Avoid to wear tight underwear to prevent undesirable bacteria growth.
• Urinate before and after intercourse.
• Drink 10-14 glasses of water in a day to prevent urinary infection. As drinking much water flushes out bacteria and other microorganisms which contaminate the urinary tract.
• Drinking cranberry juice is also helpful in treating and preventing urinary tract infection.
• Increase intake of citrus fruits which contains Vitamin C which reduces number of bacteria in urine.
• Avoid caffeine found in coffee, tea, carbonated drinks, and chocolates.

I get a UTI after rough sex or heavy drinking, or just when my body decides to revolt against me. What works best for me is to take the cranberry pills and drink plenty of water. The pills are just concentrated cranberry juice, and the relief is almost instant. I felt 90% better within ten minutes of taking them. I took two pills and drank a full glass of water. I did this three times in a day, and the infection was gone when i woke up the next morning. Only drink water on the day of the infection. If you can chug it throughout the day, it will only get rid of the infection faster. This is the best treatment I've found for this horrible pain.

Buy AZO pills from a drug store, they are relatively inexpensive and will take care of the pain. They will not CURE the infection, however...Drink LOTS of water, and a few glasses of cranberry juice per day for several days to cure the infection. Many women are allergic to latex condoms, so if you get a UTI every time you use one, stop using them and see. Do urinate after sex, wipe from front to back, and stay away from caffeine and alcohol until you are better. Caffeine and alcohol irritate the urinary tract; however for addicted coffee drinkers...lots of water and cranberry juice will still help. Many women simply don't drink enough water, and that's the root cause of infection. Caffeine and alcohol further dehydrate the body. Water is the great cleanser of the body; it flushes out bacteria that will otherwise build up in the urinary tract. Cranberry juice is like a broom, helping the water to sweep out the bacteria. Your body can heal itself, given the proper tools. A doctor will prescribe antibiotics which will cure the infection, but for many women, antibiotics lead to a yeast infection.

To prevent urinary tract infection or bladder infection, urinate before and after sexual intercourse. Specially after.

My gyno gave me a RX for 'Macrobid' which should be taken after Sex or at the first sign of a UTI pain/discomfort. They work great. It's an anti-biotic. Nothing else works...Cranberry juice doesn't do anything once you have the infection. It only helps prevent one but not cure it. URISTAT works great--turns your pee red because of the iodine, but helps alleviate pain within 35 minutes (I've timed it). Good luck.

First of all, you need to find out what is triggering or causing your UTI. For me, it was a daily visit to Starbucks (caffeine and sugar) and my kidneys and bladder were very sensitive to both caffeine and sugar. As for the cure, get 3 cans of asparagus, eat one can and drink all the juice. One can per day. The natural sulfer in the spears and juice will take away pain and kill bacteria. Second, get some D-Mannose from your health food store, take it every 3 hours with a large glass of water and a shot of UNSWEETENED cranberry juice. Drink hot tea (dandelion, pau d'arco, green tea) and room temperature water all day long. Before bed, drink 2 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar with 1/4 tsp. baking soda. Do this every day until you feel better, then do it for 3 days more.

Avoid caffeine, sugar, alcohol, chocolate, and sex during treatment time or you could replapse!

Drink cranberry juice about four to five times a day for a week. Within the first day you will notice the difference. Cranberry juice is an excellent preventative measure as well.

As soon as you begin to feel the symptoms of a urinary tract infection, begin taking cranberry pills and uva ursi. Uva ursi has been used for hundreds of years and is a natural antibiotic. It can be found at any health foods store or even on eBay. I used to get UTI's nonstop until I started this suggestion which I found in a magazine article. I have never had one since!

I have recurrent UTI's and have found they occur less frequently when I use KY lubricant during intercourse. Maybe the friction was causing more bacteria to get forced into my bladder?
My gyno suggested taking cranberry extract supplements every day, and that has been helpful so far. She said cranberries have a natural active ingredient that prevents bacteria cells from adhering to human cells in the bladder. She said cranberry juice has high sugar which feeds bacteria so the supplements are much better.
That's all I have apart from the usual preventatives. I am jealous of everyone that can get relief from alka-seltzer. I could not survive without my prescription strength pyridium.

This may seem like a lot, but it really works! First, get an OTC medication called Cystex. I found it at Wal-Mart. Unlike AZO, it has a low-dose anti-bacterial medication. Also, take the following vitamins/minerals: turmeric, vitamin C, cranberry, and echinacea. If you want to skimp, the last two are really the most important! We all know the benefits of cranberry for women, but echinacea is like nature's antibiotic. Use the recommended dosage on the bottles (I usually double up on the cranberry). Constantly drink water, water, water only. I just carry a huge bottle with me at all times. If you're going to drink cranberry juice, get the 100% juice - all natural - from the health food store. Don't drink alcohol or have sex while your body is healing. I felt much better within 24 hours. After a few days I was definitely on the road to 100%!

Urinary tract infection- everyone differ in remedy because their body is different. I read a lot of remedies and I can agree with taking the cranberry tablets . You should take 2 to 6 immediately after feeling that burning, urge to urinate after just urinating. Secondly for the burning sensation get some original alkaz-seltzer tablet and dissolve one in at least 2 oz. of room temperature water and pour directly on vagina slowly . Trust me it is a relief until you consume sufficient fluids to flush kidney. Hope it helps someone! Also stay away from scented douche and minamize douche usage , try the mild vinegar if you plan to douche.

Oil of Oregano in combination with garlic capsules (buy the odorless garlic!)taken 3 times daily works well. I have had recurring urinary tract infections since I was a kid (I'm 57 now). I tired of the side effects that antibiotics cause & have found that the natural way is better.

Last year I received an e-mail that said to drink original Alka-Seltser (the original dissolving tablets) as recommended on the package at the first signs of the UTI. I tried it and I felt better after a day and the infection went away on its own, I didn't have to go to the doctor like I normally do. Fair warning though, it isn't the most pleasant stuff to drink.

I recommend a few 'temp' relief remedies until you can get the antibiotics you need. These all seem to work within an hour or 15mins if your really bad and anything you drink just goes right through.

A few teaspoons of baking soda or bicarbonate of soda diluted in a cup of water, followed by at least 2 cups of water.

Corn Flour (heated in a pan until greyish), again few teaspoons diluted in a cup of water, again, followed by at least 2 more cups of water.

Potassium Citrate (can get a fairly big bottle (200ml) from over the counter at pharmacys), 1 spoonful in a cup of water. lasts up to 24 hours for me. Always good to put in the cupboard for future emergancies.

Btw, none of the above tastes nice, but at least they work.

I used to get bladder infection after virtually every intercourse and was getting desperate. I was on antibiotics daily. Then a foreign doctor gave me a solution. Immediately after intercourse, drink 2-3 cups of water and keep drinking lots of water throughout a day. 8-10 glasses a day. Keep flushing out the bacteria. This really works! The only downside is finding the time to run to the bathroom often but it's worth the hassle!

First up, if you see no improvement within 24 hours GO TO THE DOCTOR, as this can move on to a bladder infection and ultimately to Kidney infection, which is not only VERY painful but also life threatning. Get some vinigar (apple cider works fine) and take 1-2 tablespoons followed by eating some plain Yoghurt - at least twice a day. Drink lots of water and cranberry juice, and you should see an improvement usually very fast, within a few hours. Otherwise again, PLEASE SEE YOUR DOCTOR for Antibiotics.

Use the bathroom regularly. If you feel a little tingle go now, don't hold it. It really works. and when you go, don't push it out quick, just let it come. It helped me.

I get UTI when i hold in my pee. You know how sometimes you are not completely awake and are too lazy to go to the bathroom waiting for the alarm to go off first?... Yeah, not a good idea. Anyway, drinking cranberry juice (a must!), a lot of water, and herbal tees during the day is the key. Just drink A LOT OF FLUIDS at the first sign of infection and you will avoid going to your doctor for antibiotics... which could give you another problem - yeast infection :)

I suffered from chronic UTI's for several years and always took antibiotics. I was prescribed Bactrim so much that my body grew resistant. I asked my grandmother about natural remedies and she told me to take the silky hair off a fresh corn and boil it. I did this several times a day and it worked! Any time I begin to feel a tingling sensation I boil some corn hair and I don't get a UTI! It sounds crazy but it worked for me.

Stop sitting in the bathtub!!! Take showers instead! ALWAYS!!! This advice that I got 5 years ago has made a HUGE difference for me!!! Sitting in the bath is the WORST thing you can do. (hot-tubs and pools too) Also... ALWAYS keep azo-standard and an aresol can of Solarcane with you at all times! Spray yourself when you feel the first tingle of pain, it makes the spasms slow down from the outside. if you smoke ciggarettes QUIT, they are very irratating to the bladder. douche lightly with a few Tablespoons of vinegar and water whenever you have ANY vaginal discharge(healthy or not it's irratating to the urethra) make sure that you have a stash of antibiotics on hand.Cipro is my fave.if your Dr won't give you an Rx or you don't have a doc. order it on line RIGHT now because when you are in excruciating pain you don't need to be sitting in a waiting room! The most important thing is acting quickly!!!!!

I don't get them very often, but pick out a bottle of cheap wine and drink it as fast as you can and still keep it down. It gets rid of the infection overnight.

Take 1 tablespoon of coffee, (it can be instant or made for a coffee pot), mix with 1 cup of cold water. Drink completely. It's not the best tasting thing in the world but it worked wonders for me!!!
