Toenail Fungus Home Remedies:

After TEN YEARS of fighting the toenail fugus I finally WON!!
TREATMENT BENEFITS
* No oral drugs or injections
* Easy
* Application of treatment takes very little time (especially compared to the other treatments I've read)
WHAT WORKED
Decolorized Iodine (also known as clear iodine - non staining).
WHAT YOU NEED - GENERALLY
You need an antiseptic. The infection is on the skin under the nail. There are a lot of antispectics out there but they have to be 'thin' enough to get through the nail (liquid surface tension, viscosity).
WHY DECOLORIZED IODINE WORKS
Iodine absorbs in the nail in SECONDS. It also leaves NO staining - completely clear.
Other antiseptics - Bleach(chlorine), Peroxide (including Hydrogen and urine), Chlorhexidine Gluconate (hospital skin cleaner) are too thick even if you soak your toes in them (although chlorine can make a little difference)
WHERE TO GET IT
Not widely available. I found it at CVS for $5, but it was not at Walgreens or Walmart for me. Mine came in a brown bottle even though the liquid is clear and dries clear.
TREATMENT
A treatment consisted dipping a q-tip in the bottle and painting your infected nails and the skin that is close to the nail. Repeat (double dipping's ok!) until all infected nails are saturated (it can take ten times). Then leave to dry (takes less than a minute).
THAT'S IT! In less than a half an hour you might feel the skin under your nails tingling. You know it's working!!
If it hurts at anytime while applying, you have hit a pocket of infection. Stop and wait the next day to try again.
I STRONGLY recommend that you do this in the bathtub. Until the iodine is absorbed, it smells like cat urine; but that's only for a few seconds. But if you spill the bottle you want easy clean up.
MY STORY
What I did was apply it 3 times a day for 4 days, then once a week for 4 weeks, then once a month for 3 months. I don't know if more would be faster or if less is fine. In 6 weeks I was amazed at the change in my toes and nails.
Change in 6 weeks
* My toe skin looked healthier
* Light pink nail was growing out the bottom
* My right big toe left side of the nail had (before treatment) began to detact completely making another toe nail! After 6 weeks it began to reattach a full 1/8 inch!!!
Now (5 months later)
They look great. The only sign left is a major ridge that you can't see (but use to see) but I can feel it with my finger. My right toe nail has completely reattached.
INCOURAGEMENT
I would like to say that when you get rid of this infection, your body will fight other infections faster and you'll feel healthier too.
So don't let anyone, nurse or doctor tell you it can't be done!!
I have pictures but I guess I'll had to describe them instead.
IF IT WORKS FOR YOU PLEASE TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE WILL!!
(IT'S OBVIOUS TO ME THAT THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY IS NOT INTRESTED IN HELPING.)

THE BEST AND CHEAPEST WAY!!
I have been suffering physically and most of all mentally for over 7 years from my toenail fungus. Like most people I really didn't notice it as a major problem at first and ignored it.. BIG MISTAKE! I tried NailRX (3 month supply) and saw very little results for the $100 I spent and became very discouraged. 2 weeks later after running out the fungus looked worse and now my right pointer finger was getting infected. I had had enough! I started reading everything I could find for a cheaper, more effective cure. Here is what I have found and tried.
We are all busy and cant go bare foot to work. Being in our shoes all day causes moisture and feeds the fungus. Most of us have very limited time in the morning and need something fast and easy.
You will need a few things:
Vicks Vapor Rub, Rubbing alcohol, Band Aids, Q-tips, Nail File, Liquid Bleach and Tea Tree Oil-(if you can afford it)
1.Trim and file your infected nails as best as possible. Making them shorter and thinner is half the battle.
2.Wash toes with anti-bacterial soap in your morning shower.
3.Use a fresh towel or hair dryer on toes. (always use a clean towel)
4.With a Q-Tip, scrub in Rubbing Alcohol and let dry.(only takes a sec to dry)
5.With a Q-Tip, rub a generous amount of Vicks Vapor Rub on and around infected toenails and cover with a Band Aid.
This will keep moisture from getting on and under the nail while at the same time killing the fungus.
When you get home from work take off your shoes and socks and wash your feet in the same way. If you have Tea Tree Oil, apply it with a Q-Tip and walk bare foot as long as possible letting it dry. If you do NOT have Tea Tree Oil, mix Bleach and Water 50/50, apply it with a Q-Tip to the NAIL ONLY. Let it Dry. I do the same to my finger.
Before bed, repeat steps 1-5 and wear clean socks to bed.
After a few mornings you will have this down to about 5-10 minutes.
I have been doing this for just a few weeks now and see about half the fungus gone. IT IS NOT AN OVERNIGHT CURE. It is however a REAL CURE. I will be seeing you all at the beach this coming summer :)
GOOD LUCK!

Many of these remedies seem to me too labor-intensive, leading to slacking off.
When you get tired of all the heavy-duty regimes listed here, don't give up. Switch to this one - it worked for me.
I used Tea Tree Oil alone, twice a day.
It takes less than 10 minutes, no equipment. I put it on by dipping a small stick (a crochet hook, actually) in the oil bottle, and touching the toenail, so the drop goes where you touch. I put it on all toes, including ones not infected, 2 drops on big toes. I then wiped the oil off the stick with the toe of the socks I was going to wear. 5 minutes-finished.
After a week or so, I could see that the new nail growing in from the cuticle was thin and pink. There was a distinct bump where the yellow part ended. It took over a month for all the thick yellow nail to grow out and be replaced. You could see the progress as the thick part moved out and the thin nail followed behind.
It's important to keep doing the oil (although once a day is probably enough after 2-3 weeks), because it will re-infect until all the old, thick stuff had grown out and gone. Just be sure to do it after a bath/shower/swim or pedicure.
You can get Tea Tree Oil at any drug store, and some grocery stores - it's not expensive, $9-12. Health food or vitamin stores, like GNC, have more choices. Get the smallest possible bottle of 100% pure TTO; you are only using 12 drops per day. It has a really strong smell. Bear with it, the smell is part of the cure (that's why I wipe the applicator on the socks). Breathing the fumes is a folk-cure for coughs & sore throat.
It's from Australia, which is why you never hear about it in N.America. Check it out on Wikipedia.org
Since the yellow part has all gone, I just put oil on about once a week, when I remember. Haven't had any recurrence in 3 years.
If your nails grow slowly, taking GELATIN (pills or capsules) will help. My bottle says 'take 6/day'. I take 2/day, and my finger & toenails grow quickly, and strong. But for the fungus treatment, it should be full dosage, at least. You want that new nail to grow in YESTERDAY. Health food store, vitamin store, or drug store.

I tried the vinegar method and it WORKED. Cheap, easy and harmless. Whoever says is doesn't work is wrong. I wasn't interested in the remedies that destroy my liver or kidneys, that's for sure. So here's my situation.
The type of fungus I had was white superficial onychomycosis on my 2 big toenails. It's the 2nd most common fungus and the easiest to cure, lucky for me. It had been there on my 2 big toes for about 6 months and I stupidly failed to realize it was a fungus. I tried treating it with an over the counter remedy, which helped. I got on several forums and read about trying vinegar. I did a little research and learned that the reason vinegar may work is because it changes the pH of the nail bed, making the conditions hard for the fungus to grow.
My method for a solid year, from August of 08 to today (9/12/09) has been to use white vinegar 2 times a day, in the morning and evening, RELIGIOUSLY. I may have missed 4 times the entire year. I put vinegar in an emptied out little bottle of shampoo, the kind you get for free in a hotel. I used an eye dropper and applied the vinegar under the nail and to the sides and nail bed and all over the nail, twice a day, every day, for a year. I also avoided nail polish all year, if I did put it on for a special event, I’d take it off the next day.
My nail problem is gone, my toenails are back to their cute, normal selves. I'm going to keep it up for 1 more month just to be darn sure there's no little fungi still alive just waiting to come back. A year is a long time and 1 more month seems smart just to be sure.
I picked up the fungus in the locker room at my work's gym. Now I wear flip flops. Again, stupid of me to not have been more careful in the first place. Ah, oh well, live and learn.
Good luck...

I have been battling toe fungus for 20 years and tried everything (except oral remedies which affect the liver)
As if that wasn't bad enough, I got athletes foot recently and went on a new reseach binge to finally cure my toes and athletes foot in one go...I found it!
I don't see this natural cure mentioned on very many sites because they have an agenda to push affiliate products that pay them rather than help those in need.
What I did was purchase a couple jugs of apple cider vinegar and a couple boxes of epsom salt.
I would use Epsom salt (1/2 cup), apple cider vinegar (1 cup) and 3 cups hot water (as hot as you can stand), then soak my feet for an hour a day in this formula.
In 10 days my athletes foot problem disapeared, and 30 days later, My toes were showing massive improvement.
Now 90 days later my toes are 90% clear and I expect them to be totally cured in another 30.
It sounds like a major hassle, but if you make it part of your routine like when you are working on your home pc or watching tv - the soak becomes a solution and a pleasure.
good luck!

EASY. Effective. Cheap: About two years ago I developed toenail fungus most noticably on my right big toenail. It started as a white striation down the middle with thickening of the nail. My toenail developed white flaky debris from the striation and eventually the cuticle. After that, my little toebegan to discolor. Lo and behold each toe eventually had some degree of fungal infection on both feet. BAD spa chair pedicure!
My easy remedy:
1.) Dip a cotton swab in undiluted household bleach. Paint toenails of one foot with it, including around the cuticle and nail tip. Dip other end of swab in bleach and repeat for your other foot. Allow to air dry.
2.) Apply undiluted tea tree oil in the same way as above.
Frequency: once in the morning and once at night.
Three weeks later, my fungus appears gone on all nine toes, and my big badly infected toe seems nearly cleared.
Tips:
1.) Keep toenails short.
2.) If you file, use a new disposable variety and discard after use. Don't reuse from trim to trim.
3.) Wipe nail cutter with bleach after trimming each nail.
4.) Go barefoot whenever possible.
5.) Wear clean socks daily.
6.) Dry toes with hairdryer after baths and showers.
7.) Slough callouses and dead skin from feet daily during shower or bath when feet are softened. Sterilize utensil after use, allow it to dry and don't leave it in moist areas.
8.) Clean shower, tub, linens frequently.
9.) Spray shoes with antifungal between wears. Allow them to dry out by alternating them with another pair.
Remember: Bleach, dry, Tea Tree. If bathing or showering try bleach, dry, shower, dry, tea tree.
Don't double dip those cotton swabs that have touched infected toes into the tea tree!
Best wishes for proud pink toenails going forward. Let me know your feedback and if little piggy feels sexy going to the market!

3 months in to this regime and it is working:
Weekly: Soak toes in vinegar for 25 minutes.
Nightly: Apply Tea Tree Oil to toes, cover with socks (so as not to stain the sheets).
Additional:
At first I used a topical anti-fungal liquid to address athlete's foot around the nail bed. I still apply this once daily.
I now apply vinegar either by cotton swab or dropper daily.
It was difficult at first to clip the nails and to file them, but easier after soaking them in vinegar. After 2 months I kept filing them and now I have smooth nails. Not sure the fungus is gone, but it is a remarkable change.
I tried VVR, but wasn't too impressed. This is working for me.
Once a week I soak in bathing crystals that have epsom salts and Tea Tree Oil.

BEGINNING THE PROCESS OF REMOVING TOENAIL FUNGUS USING STORE-BOUGHT ITEMS. This is the e-journal of Jake Nugent.
For over ten years, I've been suffering from Toenail Fungus (Onychomycosis) and it kills me. This fungus as greatly affected my life. I live in beautiful sunny San Diego where shoes are optionl and it's been torture not being able to wear sandals, taking off your socks at your friends house, not going to the beach with friends or going swimming. It's uncomfortable both physically and mentally. I'm trying everything I've learned on this website.
Saturday July 18, 2009
Its starts off with a trip to Walmart. I purchased $30 worth of stuff. White vinegar, yellow listerine, hydrogen-peroxide, Vicks Vapo Rub, Tea Tree Oil, bandaids, cotton balls and a rubbermaid container to put soak my feet.
Step 1. I have soaked my feet in the vinegar for over 30mins now and will clean w/ the peroxide, then cover with Vicks. I'll keep you posted of my results.

i use tea tree oil direct on the nail at least twice a day and put magnisium sulfate [epsom] salt in my socks. i wear leggings and socks when its cold and change my socks at least onece a day. I also put the salts in my shoes. The salts help keep the dry nail dry and and maybe as they are magnisium sulfate the sulfer works like garlic ?
This is slowly but surely getting rid of the fungus and its non toxic and cheap!
ps was on lamasil for 6 months, which helped but didnt cure, the salt/tea tree is working better!
pps also tried vineigar [both malt and apple] and bleach - the salts + tea tree seem to work the best, my nails are almost perfect now only a tiny bit of yellow !
Good luck all !

I've had toenail fungus for about 10+ years and I went to the doctor about 3-4 years ago and I was gonna do the penlac but my Mainecare wouldn't cover it and the stuff was $150.00. So then she had mentioned the pill form to get rid of it but I opted out of that because I didn't want to end up with kidney and liver damage.
About a week ago I was researching on toenail fungus and what it is, what causes it and how I could get rid of it without having to take that medicine. I started off about a week ago using listerine and vinegar together. Then I kept looking for other things that I could try. So I tried white vinegar and water. Then I went and got apple cider vinegar and put some peroxide in with it. So far it seems to be doing the trick.

Several years ago, I had 4 toenails infected with nail fungus- the large toenail (infected 12+ years), the second smallest (infected 15+ year), the middle toe (infected 3 years), and the baby toe (infected less than one year).
The big toenail and the second smallest were VERY thick- like almost 1/4' thick and yellow/crusty. Really nasty.
After doing a lot of research, I came upon the remedy that made the most logical sense to me:
1-2 drops of white vinegar at the base of each nail twice per day
Here is the reasoning for this remedy:
1. Excess moisture is what fungus grows in, so doing extended soaking of the nails is NOT going to help, its going to make it worse. Applying 2 drops twice a day does not create excess moisture around the nail bed.
2. Fresh, healthy nail cells grow out from the base. So the substance needs to just soak in at the very base as these new cells are formed. Clip off the infected nail as it grows out.
3. Vinegar- safe substance, does not harm the body in any way. Cheap. Clear, does not stain, is not greasy.
4. Toenail fungus can only go away as fast as your new nails grow in. So be patient!!!
Two of my small nails have completely cleared due to this process described above.
My two very thick nails, which were infected for more than a decade each, have gradually thinned down. The large toenail started growing in thinner and thinner until one day, the 1/4' thick piece just peeled off completely. The base of that nail is clear and pink. Since my toenails grow in very slowly, I would say that by next summer, I will have a totally clear, healthy big toe nail.
The second smallest is still thick, but the base is clear and pink. That nail was infected for over 15 years, so I think that its just taking longer for it grow out completely clear.
Anyway, just thought I would share. I am very happy with the results and the ease of this treatment. I apply my two drops AM and PM when I brush my teeth.

Soaking the affected nail(s) with distilled vinegar kills off the fungus rather quickly. Apply daily after bathing and let the vinegar dry thoroughly before dressing.
Apparently the fungus doesn't like the shift in pH that comes with the use of the vinegar.
After a friend managed to get a fungus growing under her fingernails from a bad manicure I suggested using vinegar. The 'cure' only required about a week. Toenails, being thicker, seem to take a bit longer.

what i used to completely kill off toenail fungus was the bleach method, but what i did was using an emery board, i sanded surface of nail each time i did this, i used an eye dropper that i set up just for this, but i did a single drop or two of straight beach on each nail and let it sit for about 10 mins so it could soak in, only had to do this for about a week and it was gone, hasnt come back

Hi guys - I am busy getting rid of my fungus sooo easily - you need:
1) a herbal nail application (one that absorbs into the nail - they use this at salons - I use 'The Nail House - tea tree and lavender antifungal and antiseptic thymol)
2) Any LIQUID anti fungalmedication (I have Mycospor made by Bayer)
3) Thin injection needle
Mix a small amount of antifungal medication into the herbal nail application (you may want to find another container to keep what you pour out). Pull up some of the liquid (about 1ml) and inject straight under the toe nail while holding the toe upright - I put the injection in as far as it will go without hurting me (go slowly), as some of the toe nail has lifted off the nail bed - you get less play with the needle the more the toe heals.
Keep your toes clean and do this as often as you like - at least every two days after a bath/shower is a good idea.
Happy healing!!! (I am in South Africa, so the products I am mentioning are available there)

None of these treatments will work unless you trim the nail as short as possible and file the nails once a week. Clean infected toes with rubbing alcohol and let dry, then apply tea tree oil and let dry, then apply vapor rub and wear sandals. You need to let your feet breathe.
Please disinfect all nail cutters so that you don't infect the healthy nails and only use the emery boards files once.
I have been doing this for 2 months and I can see my big toe is finally growing pink and healthy.

I'd seen on a site this mix for toe fungus and although I've only been using it for three days it is working!
50% Listerine
mixed with
50% Vinegar
Spray toe(s) and let dry
THEN apply Vick's Vapo Rub all over nail (cuticle and under nail) and cover to protect sheets at night.
Do the spray twice a day after shower and Vicks at night while sleeping!
Thank You to whoever had first submitted this as I am on cloud nine with the results!!!!

Vics VapoRub is the key.
Listen to this: I first got toenail fungus when I was 17. I was young and very shy. And being female, I was very embarrassed to show my feet. As life progressed it got worse. By the time I hit 26 I HAD to do something about it. I hardly had a nail left!! I finally went to the doc. I was prescribed something with Lamisil in it. I took it religiously and in 9 months the fungus was starting again. I went back to my doc and they represcribed the meds while insisting that I take liver tests monthly because the Lamisil was such a high risk. I did and finally it went away. Over the next 2 years my nail started to grow out healthy but 3 months ago, an ingrown toenail turned into fungus once again!!! I let the nail grow out and it fixed itself growth wise-however guess what?!? The fungus was surely back! After I confirmed that it was in fact back-I went back to my doc begging for the meds. It turns out that they are now rated so bad for your liver that the hospital won't carry them but my doc, after all the warnings told me that he would prescribe the prescription nail polish elsewhere for me. He said that he has seen too many patients end up on liver transplant lists with the meds and the reoccurence rate of fungus for those who the meds did work for was like 60%! He also told me to start researching home remedies. I did. I read about Vics, and WD-40 and rolled my eyes but tried to keep an open mind. The same day as my appointment I went to pic up my prescription. The pharmacist said while going over the warnings, 'if this doesn't work, come back to me.' I paid my $40 for the ridiculous nail polish and I asked 'what's your suggestion?' He told me, 'most people laugh, but I had this once myself. Since nail Fungus is under the nail and it's a living breathing thing, if you use Vics over the end of the affected toe and bandage it, you smother the fungus and it dies off. It worked for me, I would suggest doing Vics before spending another dime and it's far more 'body friendly' than this med'. I have now been trying it a week and about 1/3 of the white has merely disappeared. It is improving day by day. And the smell doesn't bother me a bit! I always prefer natural things and I bet this will work completely. So far it works better than any other med and I don't have to worry about side effects! Best if luck!

The best remedy that helps minimize toe fungus (I don't think it's ever really 'cured') is vinegar. I have tried many topical remedies but straight undiluted vinegar works the best. Just get yourself a Rubbermaid foot size container, pour in the vinegar covering your foot and soak for as long as possible. An added bonus for soaking your feet in vinegar is that if you suffer from 'athlete's foot' it will really help that problem as well, no more itching. Try it! Vinegar is awesome!

If your toenail gets really thick and yellow, it is a form of fungus.
Take a nail file and run it over the surface of the toenail. Rub it both horizontally and laterally to make uneven grooves in the top of the nail.
Then rub Vick's Vapor Rub into the top of the toenail. The grooves will help keep the Vick's on the toenail. Do this for several days/nights in a row as often as you can.
The Eucalyptus in the Vick's will kill the fungus on the nail faster than any store-bought anti-fungal available !

I accidently stumbled upon a simple and healthy way to clear toe fungus and not to mention other health benefits,
Drinking Aloe Vera naturally. I buy plant leafs and make this juice three times a week by remove the gel and mixing it with a little juice. (taste better that way)
I started taking It for other health benefits but amazed how my toe nails began to look after several weeks.

i have toenail fungus for 2 years now and have been putting on a fungoid tincture constantly, with no improvement. this was given to me by my foot doctor. now with research, i have started the treatment of vicks all day and night ( with a white cotton sock on) in between treatments of apple cider vinegar, bleach and water and peroxide. i just take turns with all of them. i am very determined to get rid of this ulgy thing in my big toe. if you can dedicate yourself to these treatments, then i thnk they will work for you. prescriptions are not good for you and cause damage to your body. the thing to do is never let your toe breathe, keep it covered with vicks, and the fungus will die. i clean it in the shower, dry it and then clean it with either peroxide, bleach or apple cider vinegar. then i let it dry and then put on the vicks. it is already a few days and i am starting to see improvement in the nail.

I use the vinegar method. I filled a film container with vinegar and use a cotton swab. i dry my feet after my morning shower then dab on the vinegar with the swab. I also do it again when I go to bed. In order to get the best result, I first soaked my foot, then using nail clippers ( the kind that look like pliers) i removed all the bad nail part, then used rough sandpaper to grind most of it away. after a few days of the treatment I used the sandpaper again. i think it important to remove as much of the bad nail as possible. I don;t know how I get his, but 1st time was a couple of years ago and I did the vinegar for over a month and it was all gone. Got it again recently and an doing daily and I can see the new growth is fine. Vinegar works great!!

I had fungus in one toe nail for going on two years. The nail was fully infected. I then decided upon a full assault. I filed the nail a bit every day, just enough to take a think layer off. Then I applied straight bleach - brushed it on with a fine paint brush. I got immediate results which inspired me to continue. A month later my nail looks normal... Now it should be said that the nail is not normal, but it looks it. As the bleach kills the fungus, the remaining nail is essentially dead and gradually falls away a small strip at a time. I imagine that the nail will completely fall off in the next weeks and then a new healthy nail will grow it its place. Also, the bleach did not bother my skin around the nail. I thought it might when I began, but for me, it did not. After two years of a most unsightly nail, I can hardly believe I've made this month progress in just four weeks. Think about it: straight bleach...you know it is gonna do something. Do proceed with caution, obviously, it is strong stuff.

Stop soaking your feet or foot in a vinegar solution. Clean your feet in an anti-bacterial soap every day and dry with a dry, clean towel each time you dry off. Make sure it's not the same towel every time you dry your feet. Make sure all of the foot is dry, even between the toes and between the nail beds. Use an eye dropper or a syringe without the needle you can get from a pharmacy (just ask the pharmacist and they will give you one for free, tell them you want one you give meds to children for oral meds) filled with pure vinegar, either white or apple cider, I prefer the white because it does not leave a smell. Drop the vinegar over the entire nail and under the nail as many times a day as you can and allow it to dry (as soon as you dry your feet when you get out of the shower or tub and before you get in the bed or put socks or shoes on. The fungus will begin to die faster than you can imagine. Use an orange stick to clean out the dead skin and dead fungus from under the nail bed and begin to cut back the dead nail bed to expose the new nail bed. This will allow easy access for more vinegar to penetrate the fungus that is remaining. The fungus cannot live in an acidic environment. The more acidic the environment is, the fungus will die quicker. So do NOT dilute the vinegar. You will see white dead skin and scummy matter removed each time (approximately every 4 days) when you clean under your nail with the orange stick. Throw away the orange stick every time you use one. Every time you use your nail clippers, make sure you disinfect them with soap and water, alcohol, vinegar, or a solution you can buy from a health and beauty supply store for disinfecting pedicure equipment. After about three months throw away the clippers and buy another pair. These things are cheap and it's worth it in order to get rid of the fungus. Wash your hands thoroughly each time you touch your feet. Make sure you get as much air to the affected area as possible. Each time you remove the dead skin and dead fungus, cut back the dead toenail and expose the new area and keep applying the pure vinegar from the dropper or syringe. Keep this process going and each time file the end of the toenail that is left and the top of the toenail on the nail bed so it is rough and enough layer is taken enough for the vinegar to keep penetrating the nail bed. The nail will whiten with every application with the vinegar but will pinken back up after the vinegar dries. It may take about 8 months to get the fungus killed and for a new nail to grow back, but it is better than taking the oral medication which I took only to have the fungus return at exactly one year later. My physician would not give me another prescription for the oral med because I have GERD and advised me of this method because I had told her I was soaking my foot in a vinegar solution. She has checked my feet since I began this method and has told me to make sure that since the fungus returned after the oral med round, after this fungus is cured to make sure I keep the vinegar drops on my toes at least once a day because I live in the South in humid conditions and it may be the climate that allows the fungus to thrive. I hope this helps you get rid of your condition without removing your nail.

I have had toenail fungus for about 4 years. I have tried vicks vapour rub and bleach, neither of these had worked for me. I am happy to report that after only one week of daily foot soaks in vinegar for 30 minutes, my toenails have fallen off. There has not been enough time for me to see the new nail growth, but nothing else I have used has made the toenails fall off!! so I consider this exciting :) I will report back in a few weeks time to see what the new nail growth looks like . I am hopeful, because we all know what a nightmare having this is !!!

Any product that will kill fungus that can be absorbed into the nail or nail bed. No soaking. Just drops. Whatever works for you, BLEACH or VINEGAR.

Always keep your feet as dry as possible, as fungus LOVES dampness. I put a few drops TEA TREE OIL on my toenails and cuticles and rubbed it in thoroughly EVERY day.
Do this daily - even when you see healthy nails growing. Contiue until all of the thick yellow nail grows out completely... which will take several months. Also, do NOT polish your nails - it only seals in the fungus and makes it worse (and harder and longer to get rid of).

Ok I have had toenail fungus for about 6 months. I combined to remedies that work awesome! First, take a bowl and put in 1 part white vinegar and 2 parts warm water. Soak toenail in mixture for 15 to 20 minutes. After that, dry foot with clean towel. Now I know this sounds gross, but when your desprate it works and doesn't burn at all! Take fresh urine on a wash cloth, and rub on toenail. This is very cheap and affective.

Last year (2006) I was told by my doctor that I had toenail fungus. I am now over it (2007)—but not due to anything my doctor did. He prescribed some topical medication, but how do you get it to the fungus? The nail itself protects the fungus from topical salves or soaks. Anyone who tells you to soak your feet in a solution that totally cured it for them—either has lost his toenail, or the nail is so crumbly that it can no longer keep water from penetrating below the nail. My toenail got crumbly at one point, but quickly returned to normal when I began to use a sunlamp.
Let me explain. I read up on this type of fungus. It loves warm, moist, dark places. A restriction of airflow suits it also. Change those conditions and a fungicide is unnecessary. Start wearing sandals, no socks, 24/7. For many that is impossible, but do the best you can when you can. Also use a sun lamp as much as possible, but as little as 2 minutes twice a day will cure the condition. The more exposure--the quicker the cure.
If you do not have a sunlamp, you could try just an extremely bright light bulb down close to your feet. That might work just as well. I don’t know, because I didn’t try that, but I would be interested to know if that would do it. (Caution: when using the sun lamp—you cannot look directly at it without damaging your eyes. Keep a magazine between it and your eyes.)
While you are exposing the affected nail to the light, expose all of your nails on both feet. This will deter your other nails from getting the problem.
Others with toe nail fungus say I have recovered in record time, and believe me the treatment is a lot less messy than soaking in this and that. It is definitely worth a try, and it does not preclude your using other treatments at the same time, if you think you have found one that works.

A few months ago I started soaking my foot in full strength apple cider vinegar 3 times a day for 15 minutes. Immediate results. The dead nail flakes off leaving only live nail behind. Just in case the fungus was still alive. Who knows? The fungus can be yellow/orange and the ACV temporarily colors the nail. So I started soaking my foot (hard to soak only one toe) in diluted bleach water. But that made the skin burn. So to the horror of my family I started spraying my toenail with Clorox clean-up. I still soak my foot in apple cider vinegar 3 times a day for 15 minutes. Whenever I watch tv or go online I soak my foot. And I spray my toenail every morning after I shower with Clorox Clean-up.
It's been a couple of months and the nail is growing in uninfected with just a trace of the dead nail in the top corners of the nail.
I can't say which solution worked better. The ACV definitely exfoliates the nail leaving only fresh nail behind. The Clorox cleanup was just an insurance policy. I did not want to wait 2 months to see if the ACV was going to kill the fungus.
Either way my fungus is absolutely dead. I had it for 8 years. For my sisters wedding all the ladies went to a spa and had our nails done. It was my first and last time at a nail spa. Thank you nail tech for not cleaning your tools between clients.

VVP does work! I had a bad reaction to fake 'fingernails' and all nails on both my hands got infected. Somehow the infection must have traveled thru my body because 3 of my toenails got infected also. Once one nail (toe or finger) is infected, it spreads easily to the next. I was on every med/cream/ointment available and nothing worked. It was terrible, as I was suffering from this for 8 months. My fingernails chipped away and I'd have cuts on every fingertip. I didn't even care about my toenails, but once I started the vicks remedy (rubbing it in ALL the time) it eventually worked. My condition was severe, so it will probably work much quicker on the average person. It's cheap and it doesn't have to be the Brand Vicks - any generic brand will do the same. For the person that said their nail turned black, mine turned a brownish color. The only reason I kept it up was 1. My nails were horrid anyway and 2. I could feel it work. I'd also try the bleach method someone suggested. I can't see how that wouldn't work. I couldn't even consider that with the cuts I had. Vinegar did not work for me. Tea Tree Oil has worked for a couple people I know. Personally, I was afraid to add oil to a fungus, but I guess this type of oil has a drying effect. I also took garlic capsules and acidouphoulis (sp?) I'm not sure if this had anything to do with curing my infection, but I want to add all I did. Garlic is supposed to kill fungus and acidouphoulis is giving you bacteria (the GOOD kind) that your body most likely is depleted off because of all the meds your doctor put you on. aka antibiotics/steriods/etc... OH, one more thing, go barefoot as much as possible (in your home, under your desk) and do not put a bandaid over it. As much as you want to cover this eyesore, it will only make it worse. Good luck

RESULTS THAT WORKED!!
I had toenail fungus for a few years... which started with white lines in the tonail, which led to a yellow-ish brown thickening of the brittle nail, then to a dark brown/blackish streak leading up the entire nail. The condition is humiliating for us all.. and prohibits us from enjoying sandles in the summer, swimming, etc.
I discovered this site a month and a half ago... read everyone's great suggestions, and came up with a treatment that combines a lot of what is suggested here.
Items needed: bleach, listerine (brown), emery boards (disposable), Vics Vapo Rub, cotton balls, q-tips, bandaids and a shot glass (no, not to drink away the sorrows caused by toenail fungus).
Instructions:
On a daily basis, file down as much of the nail as possible using the emery boards. This includes filing the surface of the nail, back and forth, to rough up as much of the nail as possible. The rougher the nail, the more of the solutions it absorbs, thus the more effective the treatment. Once toenail is filed, fill the shot glass half with bleach, half with warm water -- leaving enough room at the top that the solution won't spill over once you dip your toe into it. Cover floor with a towel or something to protect from the bleach in case of overflow, then dip your toe in the shot glass for as long as your able. Your toe will start stinging from the bleach, you will want to remove every so often and let it air dry, then repeat. Leave in for approx 15 minutes. Once complete, let the solution completely air dry on your toe. Once dry... shower as normal, proceed with getting dressed, etc... then before putting on your shoes, saturate a cotton ball with literine, rub it over the nail for a few minutes, then apply a generous amount of Vic's Vapo Rub over the top of the nail using a q-tip, cover with band-aid, and leave for day. Once home at night, repeat the procedure before bed time.
It's a bit time consuming, and can be a little painful if the bleach burns a bit, but is working like a charm.
My entire outer-most portion of the affected nail has dried, crusted, and filed off with the emery boards.... leaving new nail growth underneath, not affected by the fungus. I could not be more pleased!!
Wearing open-toed shoes as much as possible also seems to help with this process. The fungus likes damp, dark places. So while going through the treatment, expose as much as possible!
Hopefully this works for you all, too! Good luck!

I HAVE HAD A TOENAIL FUNGUS ON BOTH MY BIG TOENAILS FOR 10 YEARS. I USED TO HYDE THEM WITH NAIL POLISH. I HAVE TRIED ALOT OF OTC CREAMS AND LOTIONS.
NOTHING WORKED.
THIS IS WHAT IS WORKING FOR ME. I CUT THEM AS SHORT AS POSSIBLE. CLEAN THEM EVERY MORNING AFTER MY SHOWER. I PUT A DROP OF ALCOHOL TWICE A DAY. NO NAIL POLISH. I WHERE SANDELS OR ANY OPEN TOE SHOE SO MY TOES STAY IN OPEN AIR AS MUCH AS I CAN LET THEM. I DON'T LIKE PEOPLE TO SEE MY TOES BUT IT WAS WORTH IT IN THE LONG RUN.
IT HAS BEEN ABOUT 4 MONTHS OF THIS BUT THEY ARE ALMOST GROWN OUT. I AM VERY HAPPY WITH MY NEW TOENAILS.

This treatment works well on toenail fungus that causes THICKNESS & DISCOLORATION.
I've had this toe nail fungus for over 25 years now, I've had it since I was a child. Thought I should try to fix it before my wedding. I've used a lot of ingredients which I had lying around the house, I'm somewhat of a homeopathic junky.
1. sand paper down the nail as thin as possible and cut the nail as short as possible
2. find an empty nail polish and fill it up with nail polish remover to clean out all the polish. Make sure the brush is free of polish. Rinse with water and soap after the polish residue is removed
Ingredients needed:
organic apple cider vinegar
black walnut hull oil
tea tree oil
listerine
35% food grade hydrogen perioxide
olive oil
vicks vapor rub
3. put in equal parts of vinegar, black walnut hull oil, tea tree oil, listerine and olive oil into the nail polish container.
4. put in 4-5 drops of food grade hydrogen peroxide into the nail polish container. (be careful not to spill since highly corrosive)
5. make sure you shake the nail polish container well and apply twice a day to nail, morning and night
6. after applying the nail polish container solution, apply liberal amounts of vicks vapor rub to nail
You might be able to use regular hydrogen peroxide you can purchase in drugstores, but make sure you put equal parts of that as with all the other ingredients.
I've been applying this solution for about a month and my toe nail fungus is drastically improving, not only do I see new unaffected growth, but the old nail looks almost unaffected by fungus.

I can't remember when the fungus first appeared, but it started with white under the nail and I didn't think much of it, and I would use nail varnish to cover it, once I changed my nail varnish I would of noticed it got worse and worse and the white stuff had spread. My nails then started to become crumbly like I can't really explain it never went to the extent of going yellow and black so I knew my fungus wasn't the worst case scenario. However it's started to clear up and I have only been using Vicks Vapour rub.
Here's how - Before you go to bed.
1.Wash your feet, and dry them with a clean towel but only dap them dry.
2.Get a cotton bud and wipe the ends into the pot and then wipe in the affected area's of the nails (I don't use my hands to rub it in because of other germs and fungus that could be lurking on my hands'
3. Get a plaster/bandaid and place it over the nail to let it soak in the nail and so it doesn't stain the bed quilts.
4. Overnight the vapour rub will soak into the nail, in the morning take the plaster/bandaid off and let as much fresh air get to your nails as possible.
It's also good for a change listerine mouthwash works in some cases soak as your toes in some listerine while brushing your teeth etc.
It can take ages for you to notice a change and improvement however because I catched mine early it was easier to get rid of that how it works and over night I saw a difference, now my big toes (the ones that were once affected' are looking much pinker without white underneath the nail.
Good luck, hope to see you this summer in the sandals on the beach...

Had been fighting toenail fungus for over 5 years and tried everything imaginable, including but not limited to: daily alcohol soaks (30 days), same with vinegar, tea tree oil, penlac, tagamet (high dose for 60 days), OTC anti fungal topicals and sprays (long term), used these singly and in concert with other remedies, etc., etc., etc. Some of these showed some promise but the hopes were dashed every time.
What did work (and have been totally free of any toenail fungus for over two years now), was a drop of Clorox Clean-Up on each toes once (sometimes twice) a day for 2 weeks, and allowed to air dry. Also used common sense procedures to prevent cross contamination or reinfection including: Spaying shoes with anti-fungal sprays, clean socks daily, always clean pedicure tools by dipping in alcohol between EACH toe, keep nails short and file a little off the top (again use a washable emery board type file that can be dipped or cleaned with alcohol between each toe, when possible keep clipping off nails that are loose and beginning to fall off.
I'm pretty sure I got my fungus from salon pedicures, so now I bring my own pedicure tools and a spray bottle of Clorox Clean-Up to add an extra layer of cleanliness to the foot soak basin. Good luck!

I've fought this for years. When I looked up old remedies I saw they used to remove the nails. Hummm... so I decided to use Compound W. Works great to melt off the nail. I did switch to Dr. Sholls callus remover.(easier to use) I have small nails so it took about 2-3 wks. to have the nails completely off just like a callus. I then used the callus remover for another month to completely kill any nail that tried to grow. Keep any loose area trimmed completely off and continue to treat new exposed nail and bed. 4 out of 7 nails are perfect. I did have to do the big toe 2 times because I could see thickness the first time they grew out. I was in a hurry to see results!! I'm finishing up the last 3 with a third process and they look good so far. I am following thru everyday with tea tree oil on the new nails and will do so for at least 6 mo. to make sure!!! It will take at least 6 mo. for the big toe to totally grow out. Make sure you keep it trimmed close and a v cut to help the ingrown nail as it comes out to the top. I used 2 bottles as I replaced it when the remover got thick. I am very happy and hope this idea works for you too. Good time to do this as maybe you will have pretty nails by summer and bare feet!!

For toenail fungus - I also did not want to take the rx as it may have side effects. I started pouring clorox from the bottle onto my toe, holding it over the bathtub. I know fungus hates clorox. The toenail fell off and I continued to pour that on every day after a shower as I presumed the toenail would be more porous when wet. The new toenail was fine. I used this on another toe and the toenail did not fall off but it killed the fungus inside and made a little ridge across the nail, which eventually grew out.

Easy cure: Get some cotton balls, apple cider vinegar, athletic tape. Tear off enough cottom ball to cover the nail you want cured. Dip the cotton ball into the apple cider vinegar until it's saturated. Place the saturated cotton ball over the area you need fixed and tape it in place with the athletic tape. Your nail will get soft after the aplication so use a nail file to scrape off soft nail. Do this in the morning and before bed for as long as you need. Be vigilant and the infection will go away soon. Just make sure you file off the dead nail as you go and you'll be clear in no time depending on the infection.

I used anti dandruff shampoo, the type with selenium sulphide 2.5% (called Selsun here in UK & Ireland.)
Cover your toenails, pushing it down the sides and under the nail. Put on your socks and leave all day or overnight if you are a bedsock kind of person.
As the fungus lives inside your nail, you have to continue to treat it until the nail grows out.

A toenail fungus cure used in combat that works on any type fungus:
Saturate a cotton ball in WD-40, place it on top of the affected nail; roll a cut off balloon over the toe to keep the saturated cotton ball in place, and thus the WD-40 constantly in contact with the affected toenail, which will also serve to limit its evaporation. Keep this process up for a day or two. The WD-40 will thus slowly be absorbed and penetrate the nail, and once it finally reaches the fungus, it will destroy it instantly. A Marine Corp medic figured this out over forty five years ago in the jungles of Vietnam! The marines have been using this method it ever since, they just don't admit it. The directions on the WD-40 container certainly warn against such behavior (skin contact), so proceed at your own risk!

My cousin recommended me “OxyFend Cream” called “Zerowarts”. And for about 2-3 days, my toenail fungus cleared. The cream is really quite inexpensive. This Oxyfend nail fungus treatment cream really helped my nail infection!

I have had a bad fungus on my big toenail. I've been religiously soaking (at least 30 minutes) my toes in distilled white vinegar after thoroughly washing my feet with hot soapy water. After soaking in vinegar, let the area dry naturally. Then I load on Vick's VapoRub with a Q-tip on the nail and at the base of the nailbed where new growth begins. I cover it semi-loosely with a bandaid so the gunk won't get all over my sheets. In the a.m., I take off the bandaid and take my shower. I have been doing this for approximately 2 months, and the new growth is amazingly clear and pink!! It may take a while to see a difference, but it has certainly worked for me!

I had to nail fungus for about 4 years on one big toe nail and 2 years on the other big one. They were pretty yellow and very thick. I filed them down as much as possible and trimmed them back. I did have to spend 13 dollars on a big nail nipper. The first 2 or 3 months I soaked cotton balls with white vinegar and put them on the nails while I brushed my teeth at night and while I got ready in the morning. It has taken 4 months and 1 1/2 small bottles of white vinegar (less than 4 dollars). I still have a quarter of my nails to grow out but I can say it works!!!

Here is an excellent remedy to cure Fungus Infections of the Feet, also known as toenail fungus or onychomycosis.
1. Invest in a 4 oz. Dropper bottle.
I recommend visiting the following website for your purchase:
2. Fill your dropper bottle with 70% isopropyl alcohol.
3. Put 2 drops of the isopropyl alcohol at the growing base of the affected nail every night and morning, and within a few months, normal nail will begin to show at the base of the nail.
Other remedies (like distilled vinegar) are effective as well. However, isopropyl alcohol dries or (evaporates) quickly and does not leave the mess that vinegar can leave on the floor.
This alcohol treatment works and it is relatively inexpensive.
Good Luck.

I found a dark colored line down the middle of my large toe about a month after one of those spa pedicures (when I had to redo the polish). I was horrified because I have never experienced this before now. So I rubbed some tea tree oil on it a few times, reapplied nail polish and ignored it for a month. After 4 weeks of rubbing in tea tree oil (over the polish) of course it was still there. So I set out to find a fast and free remedy that would not kill my kidneys or liver in the process.
This is what worked and with little to no effort, I am free of fungus and my nail is almost grown out.
I began taking a probiotic, cut down on sugar (not by much because I am a chocolate freak) and managed to squeeze in 4 treatments that included the following:
1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar, mixed with 1/3 cup of hydrogen peroxide and soak my infected toe for 20 minutes
Next:
Rinse foot and soak in a mixture of 1/3 cup of bleach (yes bleach) and 1/3 cup of water, anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes, however long you can stand it and then rinse.
The Key I believe to this working was exposing the infected area. So I took a grinder tip from my husbands drill set and ground the nail bed until it looked like a valley on the surface of my big toe, and caused the bed at the infection to be very thin and then pushed on it until it cracked.
After I had done the treatment 4 days in a row - during which time I applied tea tree oil and kept a band aid over it - since it was sandal season - then I was able to apply polish, a shimmery color so as to not draw attention to the crack in my nail bed, but as to not get polish in the crack.
Just to be safe - throw away any polish you may have used on the infected nail.
I am happy to report that my toe looks great, minus the much smaller crack in my nail bed that is almost completely grown out. YAY!!!!

Half soy sauce and half pine sol in a dropper for as long as it takes your toe nails to grow back out, a few drops after every shower, this is an old chinese remedy. My toe nail was brand new in 10 months!

WD-40. That's it. Spray twice a day with WD-40. 30 days: fungus gone.

Hello I'm Katherine, 28 years old. Mom of 2 kids. I’ve been battling toenail fungus about a year ago and have never had success with any product or home remedies. I've try to used the tea tree oil, vicks vapor rub, laser treatment, wartrol but all of them are not too effective on my toenail fungus. Until my friend suggested me to used the new nail/toenail fungus treatment 'FUNGUSIL'. With good reviews I've read and heard about this product, I tried it since my friend tested it before and effective on her. And within 1-2 weeks, my toenails started clearing up and Its getting stronger as my nails were started to look healthy again! Thanks for FUNGUSIL for getting me back in wearing my favorite sandals and slippers again!
