Whitening Teeth with Lemon Juice

Procedure: Brushing teeth with lemon juice

Lemon juice is an acid and can harm your teeth. You may end up with a LOT of cavities and irreparably damaged tooth enamel. The reason that lemon juice 'works' is that it causes the teeth to lose calcium (which gives teeth some of their off-white color). Calcium is a major component of healthy teeth, and once it is lost, your teeth become very susceptible to decay. DO NOT use lemon juice for whitening.

Whitening Teeth with Wood Ash

Procedure: Brushing teeth using wood ash (i.e. from your fireplace)

The reason wood ash whitens your teeth is because it contains potassium hydroxide (aka lye). However, only hard wood ash contains significant concentrations of potassium hydroxide. Soft wood ash does not. Before lye was available commercially, soap was made by leeching the potassium hydroxide from hard wood ash and then combining it with tallow (rendered animal fat). You may want to exercise caution when using hard wood ash too often as a tooth whitening agent. The harshness of the potassium hydroxide could significantly damage your teeth over time.

Whitening Teeth with Strawberries

Procedure: Brushing teeth using mashed strawberries

It is not advisable to brush your teeth with strawberries. The sugar and acid in the strawberry will harm your teeth more than it will help if you don't brush your teeth after.
If you eat an acid fruit such as strawberry or any other healthy but acidic food such as yoghurt, I would advise that you wait at least 20min to brush your teeth since the acid softens the enamel and you would be brushing some enamel away if you brush immediately. After 20 minutes the saliva would have 'buffered' the acid on the teeth and would be OK to brush and floss.

Whitening Teeth with Baking Soda

Procedure: Using Baking Soda with toothpaste while brushing

Baking Soda won't bleach your teeth, but it will help get plaque off and make them shine. Be warned that Baking Soda is an abrasive and if you use it too much, the enamel on your teeth can get damaged.

Whitening teeth with Hydrogen Peroxide:

Studies on humans repeatedly using oral health products containing hydrogen peroxide have shown that:

* using mouth rinses or mouth washes that contain up to 1.5% hydrogen peroxide once or twice daily for up to 2 years had no adverse effects on the inside of the mouth, gums or tongue and can even improve gum health significantly.

However, one study reported discoloration of the inner lining of the mouth and the tongue when used 4 times daily for 5 weeks.
* adults who brushed with a toothpaste containing 0.87% hydrogen peroxide twice a day for 6 months showed no differences in gum health
* rinses containing 3% hydrogen peroxide used 3 to 5 times per day can cause irritation in people with a previous mouth injury; and
* rinsing and brushing 2 to 3 times daily with products containing more than 6% hydrogen peroxide can affect the tongue and gums in some healthy people.

There are studies being conducted upon hydrogen peroxide and DNA damage, cancer, reproductive disorders, etc.
So I cannot stress enough to use the proper dilution rate, no more than twice a day, and do not swallow!

I saw the Tyra Banks show yesterday, she said that Catherine Zeta Jones uses strawberries to whiten her teeth. Later in the show, Tyra tried it. She just rubbed the strawberry across the front. I didn't think it would work-her teeth are already whitened (bleached?) Anyway, I bought some strawberries and tried it. It sure did make a difference right away! It totally freaked me out! I couldn't believe it. The only thing though...Tyra didn't say to brush your teeth immediately afterwards. I learned that be reading up on the internet. I don't know how healthy it is, but I do know it worked right away. I just quit smoking a month ago...so I have some stains...it was nice to see. I also don't think that Tyra would be putting it out there to use strawberries if she didn't first have a dentist say it was okay to say it first. (so people don't sue her )EK

Mine is similar to the others on this site, but alot quicker, so here you go...

What you need-> Hydrogen Peroxide(drugstore kind in brown bottle) and baking soda

Fill the lid of the peroxide bottle about 1/2 way full with BAKING SODA. Then fill the remainder of the lid with the peroxide but not all the way to the rim(so it doesn't spill out), then stir the mixture with the opposite tip of your toothbrush. This will create a paste you can use to brush your teeth with. For best result let the paste sit for about 2 minutes so it can thicken up. After brushing, quickly rinse your entire mouth out with luke warm water thoroughly. Be careful when brushing your teeth not to get excess mixture on your lips/tongue/gums because yes it will tingle and turn your gums light pink/white, if you do, dont worry, it usually goes away before noon if you do it in the morning. I do this every other day and it PRODUCES IMMEDIATE RESULTS- i love it, thats why im reccomending it, and its basically free compared to the $100 professional bleach they will use on you at the dental office, and alot healthier for your teeth, i would imagine.

My grandmother's home remedy for teeth whitening is as follows:

mix on small plate the following
1 tsp baking soda
dash of salt
then add a few drops of white vinegar, which will foam.

Then brush with toothpaste afterwards.

It works great! I've used this for last forty years.

I am giving this advice as my mother has been a dentist/ dental lab technition for 24 years. I have used professional whitening trays (made especially for my teeth) with 30% volume bleach. I loved how this made my teeth look but over using it cause severe tooth sensitivity and nerve damage. My teeth were so white they looked see through. This cosmetic procedure can be very costly and harming if you do not know what you are doing. Also, I do not recommend using 'home bleaching' products such as pre whitening rinse, whitening toothpaste and gels and strips. Although these are okay, they are not meant to be used together nor are they meant to be used everyday. You will notice extreme sensitivity and not get the results you want. Remember if you have vaniers of any kind, they will not bleach or become whiter, all it will do is make the stains disappear, it will not actually whiten the tooth below the surface. Also, hydrogen poroxide is not safe at all. It can cause major damage to your mouth and gums and can be fatal if swallowed.
Here is what I do :

Step One:
Floss- you need to removed all plaque and build-up from around the tooth and gum

Step Two: Brush your teeth daily as you would normally do. I brush after every meal.

Step Three: Rinse your mouth with luke warm water. cold water or hot water can be harming to your nerves and your gums and will be shocking.

Step 4: Make a paste with water, toothpaste and baking soda. And brush your teeth again gently. Brushing harder will not make your teeth whiter, it will and can eat the enamel off your teeth.

Step Five: Rinse your mouth again with luke warm water.

Step Six: Rinse with a antiseptic mouth wash. I do recommend Listerine every day but not when you do this at home remedy. I would uses a non alcohol based mouth washed on the days you uses this remedy.

REMEMBER: this is not a permanent solution, this is only temporary. Do not do this daily. If you have really bad, and I mean really bad stains or yellow teeth i recommend twice a week for 2 weeks and then once a week there after to remove weekly surface stains.

Please remember that we are not striving for just white teeth we are striving for healthy white teeth.

NOTE: These things contribute to yellow, and stained teeth regularly: SMOKING, COFFEE, TEA, DARK SODAS, AND ALACHOLIC BEVERAGES. ALL THESE ARE NO NO'S FOR YOUR TEETH.

A dentinst told me to brush my teeth really good. Then get a white wash cloth, pour some extra virgin olive oil on it and scrub your teeth. I was thinking okay wow this sounds weird. Anyways I bought some and did it thinking a nasty taste would be in my mouth and it worked right away. I am still blown away at the results. Who would think of e.v.o.o.

Always remember, what works for someone else may not work for you.
Here's my remedy and it does work.

Brush your teeth as usual and rinse your mouth and tooth brush with warm water.

Then dip your tooth brush in peroxide and brush your teeth. Do not swallow the peroxie. Rinse your mouth and tooth brush with warm water.

Then add some Crest 3D (atleast pea size)and take your finger to rub it in the tooth brush keeping some on top. Pour some peroxide over the tooth paste and brush again and rinse again with warm water.

I had my picture taken yesterday and my front teeth were so stained that they looked rotten in the picture. So I did this remedy this afternoon after seeing the picture, and so I took another picture and HUGE difference.

What DIDN't WORK for me;
peroxide and baking soda
peroxide alone
Olive oil

Okay, this morning I decided to experiment. I heard they use Baking Soda on the Statue of Liberty, so I put some Baking Soda on my toothpaste (while on the toothbrush, of course) and brushed my teeth. Wow! I could not believe it!!! They were white! Not quite pearly white, but they were white! But I did notice part of my gums were bleeding. Incase this happens to you, don't worry... It only jappened because the plaque was builing up in your gums. I also noticed that there was a texture difference in my teeth. They were smooth!

Baking soda works wonders. Just get your toothbrush wet then dip it in the baking soda, brush your teeth with it, then rinse out with water. I'd do it every 2 nights until your teeth get to the whiteness you want, then do it just once a week to keep the color.

Use a eyemakeup remover pad and put extra virgin olive oil on it.
Then rub on all your visible teeth for 5-10 minutes, depending on how much of a difference you want to make to your teeth. Then brush your teeth with regular toothpaste.
The first time i did this i personally wanted whiter results after the first time so did it twice more straight after.

About using hydrogen peroxide to whiten your teeth; it states clearly on the package that it can be used in the mouth, as long as it is equally diluted with water. Just try not to swallow the mixture. There is nothing unsafe about this method like posts before have continually stressed.

Mix Baking Soda and any toothpaste until it has a gritty or lumpy texture.(I mixed a little bit of it in a plastic bag so there wouldn't be a mess.)Use it to brush your teeth regularly. It cleans your mouth extra well and whitens teeth/brightens your smile. Brush for as long as you can stand the taste, and rinse toothbrush well. It has a bad taste, but great results! Because of the taste, you may want to brush with regular toothpaste afterwards. Good luck, and keep smiling!

So I tried a bunch of the remedies, seemed the olive oil rub followed by a diluted apple cider rinse worked best. As for the strawberry debate (do or do not rub strawberries on your teeth) wouldn't it be totally safe to just eat some strawberries? I assumethat when you chew them, you use your teeth and some rubbing action may just naturally occur.

You can't go wrong with pure baking soda. I'd brush lightly like usual with it, approx every other day. Because if you use it too much, you can ruin your enamel and cause too much friction on your gums. I've also used half baking soda, half toothpaste of choice in a same brushing and gotten similar results... u just add some mintyness so it's not as bad. I've heard some people can't handle brushing with baking soda because of the 'taste,' but really, you'll get over it. It's not like it tastes like vomit or something, it's just simply not going to give you a minty lather.

Also, brush within 30 min after drinking coffee, tea, or sodas. Drink lots of water. And eating raw, fresh fruits and veggies also contributes in cleansing the teeth when you chew them.

For immediately whiter teeth I just use a cotton swab to apply straight hydrogen peroxide to my teeth. Being careful not to get too much on the gumline. This method can be a bit uncomfortable if you get it on your gums. Your gums will turn white and sting a bit. The whiteness on your gums will go away in about 10 minutes afterward. I wouldn't recommend to do this the day of a big event or date. The day before would be better. But you will definitley see a huge difference after the first application.

Baking Soda is your best bet. It may take up to a month to work, but it is safe to use. Most whitening toothpastes have baking soda anyway, and almost everyone has baking soda in their house. Just wet your toothbrush, dip the tip in baking soda, put some toothpaste on it and brush.

The secret to this inexpensive home whitening method is malic acid, which acts as an astringent to remove surface discoloration. Combined with baking soda, strawberries become a natural tooth-cleanser, buffing away stains from wine, coffee, and dark sodas. While it’s no replacement for a bleaching treatment at your dentist’s office, “this is a fast, cheap way to brighten your smile,” says Adina Carrel, DMD, a dentist in private practice at Manhattan Dental Arts in New York. “Be careful not to use this too often, though, as the acid could damage the enamel on your teeth.”

Make Over Your Smile
You need:
1 ripe strawberry
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Directions: Crush the strawberry to a pulp, then mix with the baking soda until blended. Use a soft toothbrush to spread the mixture onto your teeth. Leave on for 5 minutes, then brush thoroughly with toothpaste to remove the berry–baking soda mix. Rinse. (A little floss will help get rid of any strawberry seeds.) You can apply once a week.

I used 2 teaspoons of baking soda and 3 teaspoons of peroxide (this makes a paste) and brushed my teeth with it and then let it sit on my teeth for two minutes then rinsed.

After this I poured some apple cider vineger into a spoon and dipped my toothbrush in it and brushed my teeth with that. Just continue to dip the toothbrush back in the vinegar often.

This worked wonders immediately and my teeth are so much whiter.

Here are a few home remedies for teeth whitening.

First of all, before you try these methods you need to know how to brush your teeth properly. So here you go.
1. Put a enough toothpaste on your brush to cover the bristles. Children need an amount the size of a fairly large pea.
2. Place the brush on top of your teeth and brush all the way round. Remember to got right to the back of your mouth.
3. Now put your brush on your front teeth and brush well in a circular motion. Don't brush too hard near you gums as they may bleed or cause pain. Do the same at the back of your mouth.
4. Remember to brush the backs of your teeth too. to do this just brush how you did at the front.
5. Rinse your mouth out with mouthwash or plain water. Try not to eat after brushing your teeth in the evening and don't give kids juice or squash after they have cleaned their teeth.

The strawberry method.
1. Cut one strawberry in half so it can fit in your mouth. Cut in half again if necessary.
2. Hold it by the skin so the inside is facing towards you. Rub it over your teeth until they are pinkish.
3. Leave on for about 5 - 10 minutes and then brush off with your regular toothpaste. You should brush twice a day. When you wake up and before you go to bed.

The Baking soda method.
1. Put about 1/4 of a teaspoon of baking soda or powder in a small cup. And add the amount off toothpaste you normally brush your teeth with.
2. Dip your toothbrush into the gritty paste and brush your teeth thoroughly with it.
3. Rinse your mouth out and use mouthwash to get rid of the taste and leave your mouth feeling fresh.

The easy method.
1. Get hold of some very strong minty toothpaste and put lots of it on your toothbrush.
2. Brush your teeth.
3. After a few days or weeks of doing this your teeth will look amazing.

I am a heavy smoker/tea drinker. There are a few effective ways to whiten teeth. Baking soda and peroxide works well. Make a paste, put it on your brush, and brush away. The peroxide stings a little. Do this two times. Brush right after words two times. Do not use this method on a regular basis. You risk taking the enamel off of your teeth because baking soda is an abrasive. Strawberries...I have tried...they work decently, but the sugar in the strawberries ruins your teeth. You must also brush afterwards if try this method! I enjoy seeing white teeth in my mouth. Baking soda/peroxide!!

While apple cider vinegar provides many health benefits to our teeth and body it is also important to take precautions when ingesting the acidic concoction. If used incorrectly, the cider vinegar has the capability of eroding the tooth enamel. However, if diluted and used correctly, the vinegar provides us with a healthy way to whiten and clean teeth between dentist visits.

A teaspoon of apple cider vinegar mixed with a glass of water becomes an easy and effective mouthwash for our teeth and gums. The mixture is weak enough to keep tooth enamel in tact, yet strong enough to remove tartar deposits that build up between dentist visits. Used daily, the mixture has the capability of reducing deposits and safely whitening your teeth dramatically. This cider vinegar mouthwash, along with daily brushing, is an effective remedy in preventing tooth decay...and making your next dentist visit much less painful!

The same cider-water mixture can also be used to relieve sore gums and ulcers. Rinsing your mouth with the concoction will ease the pain of sore gums and pesky ulcers. Just one more reason why apple cider vinegar should become a part of your daily toothbrushing routine! For ulcers, however, you may want to dilute the mixture with more water to prevent stinging from the acidic quality of the vinegar.

The rules of using apple cider vinegar for healthy teeth are simple - a little vinegar diluted with water will do the trick! Becoming a part of your daily routine, cider vinegar mouthwash will promote clean and healthy pearly whites and pain-free gums for years to come.

Now, time to mix that mineral-infused concoction, and prepare to make your dentist proud!

For those of you saying to use Hydrogen Peroxide, I strongly advise that you do not. This is because Hydrogen Peroxide is a VERY powerful oxidising agent and if it is accidentally swallowed it could lead to death or loss of sight if it comes into contact with the eyes. Also it's pretty corrosive, which is definately not good for your teeth. But I do strongly advise you to use Baking soda as it is very effective, plus it's used in baking so it's not as dangerous if you swallow it.

Morning:
1. Listerine Pre-Wash Whitening
2. Colgate Total Whitening Paste
3. Arm & Hammer Whitening Gel

**wash left to right and top to bottom:
- outer teeth
- outer gums
- inner teeth
- inner gums
- base of teeth(the biting part)
- tongue (dont leave any white it should look pink)

5. Listerine mouth wash

** mint Listerine works best

It works, less than 2 weeks you see the difference and u feel the difference from the first use

crest white strips work too as a booster the first 2 weeks... anfer that the process above will keep your teeth bright and at their best

i drink a lot of coffee, my teeth never stain!! use it correctly and it should work..

sometimes its hard to dedicate time and effort, but make it a daily habit and you will notice it will even make you want to be more organized with yourself.

I found that the best remedy is a combinations of various things. I do 3 methods: oil pulling, hydrogen dioxide swishing and baking soda brushing. Oil pulling will tighten/brighten your teeth and remove toxic from your blood stream. Hydrogen dioxide kill bacteria that prevents receding gum from regenerating and stop gum bleeding. Baking soda brushing is just for good measure 'cause it doesn't hurt. For oil pulling, make sure that you use untoasted sesame/coconut oil. Put about one table spoon in your mouth every morning before eating or drinking and swirl it around gently for 20 mins before spitting it out. Wash your mouth with some salt water. Then, you mix a cap full of 3% hydrogen dioxide with water and keep it in your mouth for 10 mins -- try to keep your head slightly down so the solution is around your teeth instead of your throat. Lastly, wet your tooth brush and dip it in baking soda power and start brushing. Then rinse your teeth with salt water again. Your mouth will feel 99% clean, no more bad breath and within a few weeks, your teeth will be Hollywood white. At least, that's what happened to my sister. I'm a tetracycline victim so my teeth don't get the same effect but it does get lightened up just after a week.

Get the finest ash from burnt charcoal, mix it with your toothpaste thoroughly, then brush the mixture very slowly and very lightly on your teeth. Do the brushing for 10 minutes. The base chemical on the ash is a powerful stain remover.

I use hydrogen peroxcide & baking soda on my toothbrush with some toothpaste when I brush my teeth. Only do it this once a day- because if you have sensitive gums, it could wear away gum tissue in your mouth, so be careful. (And try trident gum. It really seems to help whiten your teeth!)

Hello,

I would like to pass on a home remedy that has been in our family for years. It is tried and true and my results over the past 10 years have been fantastic!

Simply mix a little fish oil and butter, add a dash of salt and brush regularly. Your teeth will be noticably whiter in days!!!

Crush up a strawberry with a fork and add baking soda. Then mix in lemon juice and peroxide. scrub your teeth for about five minutes and keep putting more of the mixture onto you toothbrush. (dont use your normal toothbruse because it is really hard to get the seeds out) Your teeth will be alot whiter after doing this once. When your done brush your teeth with toothpaste and rince with water. Your gums may hurt for a couple of minutes after you do this but it is well worth it.

Hi everyone,

I recently tried LumaGloss teeth whitening and it is the best at home kit I have ever tried. I love the custom-fitted tray and the fact it has zero peroxide. I got amazing results after 10 days, I strongly recommend it!

Don't use fruit!!! It has natural sugar so it'll make your teeth more yellow later on in life. It just looks like it's working but it really isn't!!!

The only thing that really works to whiten teeth is in office laser whitening, such as zoom or britesmile, any thing else has limited results. I had a chance review many dental as well as other products and found that only light assited bleaching works fast and with good results.
