Nausea Home Remedies:
Submitted by Serena Michelle at 2008-03-13 23:45:24
I have suffered from nausea (morning sickness) for 2 out of 3 pregnancies.
Following are some non-medicine remedies that have worked well for me.
* Red Raspberry Leaf tea
* Peppermint tea - or a peppermint candy
* Papaya and fruit enzymes chewable tablets. These work to help your digestive system by breaking down food in the stomach. Nausea is sometimes triggered by food that doesn't break down and just sits around in the stomach. These are taken after a meal.
(Available at virtually all health food stores)
* GINGER - in all forms:
Ginger tea (bring water to a boil and add slices of a 2 inch piece of ginger; simmer for 15 minutes; strain and drink - can be sweetened if necessary)
You can also try sucking on a piece of ginger - or eating some ginger candy. Ginger pills work too - they just take a bit longer to kick in.
Real, old-fashioned ginger ale is tasty too.
Gingersnaps or gingerbread cookies made with real ginger are great too.
* Crackers - typically saltines work best.
* Dry toast
* Vitamin B-6 is believed to be very helpful with relieving nausea. However, if you have a difficult time keeping down vitamins - take them 30 minutes before bed (it's best not to lie down immediately after taking any vitamin or medicine).
* A diet with lower fats and higher in proteins and carbs will also help. But make sure those carbs are healthy ones such as whole-grains. Also eat smaller more frequent meals as opposed to large meals.
* Yogurt helps with replenishing good flora in your digestive track - which also helps. I like to make a strawberry smoothie with just plain yogurt, water, frozen strawberries and a bit of sugar...
* Olfactory remedies include: sniffing ginger, lemon peel, lavender oil and peppermint oil. Your brain will trigger responses to these smells which can alleviate nausea
* Sour food and/or drinks can help too. Freshly squeezed lemonade (go easy on the sugar)... pickles worked well for me too.
* Try not to drink with your meals - but between them.
I've tried it all... all of these work - even if only for a short time, they work. =)

I am allergic to mint, so for those of you who don't like it, or are unable to eat it, try simply smelling it. It works for me all the time, and almost instantly.
Also, you can use pressure points to help, like the spot between your thumb and index finger, or the spot in the middle of your wrist.
If you normally drink carbonated drinks to help ease nausea, I recommend staying away from sugary drinks. Try diet sodas or fizzy water,
Ginger helps alot too. Have some ginger tea or ginger ale.
Avoid being too warm. Warmth usually adds to the feeling of nausea. Use some ice packs of cool washcloths on your neck and face to help.
Eat some plain crackers to get some food in your stomach, avoid sugary, oily, fatty and salty foods of course.
Finally, the number one way to rid yourself of nausea is, of course, to vomit. I realize its not the most fun thing to do, but it is the best way to help rid yourself of nausea, especially if you feel that your nausea is coming from the flu or food poisoning.
I hope this helps!

1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda fully dissolved in a glass of water - 2hours as needed, no more than 7 times a day (or just read the side of an Arm&Hammer Baking Soda box) Worked great for me for upset stomach/nausea also should work fine for heartburn. (or as another post suggests, just eat some soda crackers)

What works for me is to bathe the forehead, face, and neck with really cold water, or use ice packs. This may be a pain or uncomfortable for some, but for me ANYTHING is better than vomiting.

What works for me on nausea, is eating saltine crackers, drinking ginger ale, 7 up, sprite, or alka seltzer. Those have always worked for me.

Ginger! I have chronic nausea and nothing beats it like ginger. When I'm acidic, I take ginger pills instead of drinking ginger tea with honey. Good ginger snaps and gingerale are also great. However, BE CERTAIN there is actually ginger in the ingredients! Many are just molasses derived. Many gingerales dont really have ginger in them.
It doesn't take much ginger to cure nausea, motion sickness and prevent vomiting.

Underneath your wrist (where you would check your pulse) move your fingers to the base of the visible veins at the wrist. This is typically about 4 finger widths from the palm of your hand (3') This is a pressure point that if massaged during nausea usually helps.

Just freshly ground ginger root (fair amount, don't be stingy) into hot water, let steep like tea and sieve the grated pieces out with a spoon or cover the hot water with a piece of cheesecloth or gauze for easy removal following the steeping process. Drink while hot and may put in a tablespoon of honey for flavor but remember that honey has sedative effects.

Soda Crackers (Premium plus) Pretty good remedy, the Baking Soda in the crackers helps to neutralize stomach acid and nausea (Also good for mild heartburn)
... as for the benadryl... That's an antihistamine not antinauseant, benadry stops itch it's never helped me with nausea. I'd takea gravol for that.

Nausea: Drug stores carry syrup of coke (coca cola...remember it was a patent medicine before the mega marketing) or your local bar can supply it from their fountain coke machine). Take a teaspoonful, if you tummy has not settled after 5 mins take another teaspoonful. It won't hurt you. My children's paediatrician reccommended this many years ago. Works just fine and NO side effects.

Eating a slice of fresh lemon will cure an upset stomach within 5-10 mins. I was shocked at how well it worked when I first tried it (if you can get past the pucker).

One cure for me when I start to feel nausea coming on is to take a washcloth and soak it in cold water then lie down and place it on your forehead wetting your face whenever. Much like the cure for wettting you face and neck.

As far as prescription antiemitics go, Phenergan (promethazine) works the best BY FAR. Hydroxyzine, another antihistamine, works too, it's just not as fast as Promethazine. I also use a LOT of ice packs--one on the back of my neck, one on my forhead, and one on my tummy. That helps the most until the medicine can kick in. I am deathly afraid of vomiting and these things always work for me. If you don't have access to Promethazine or Hydroxyzine, try Meclizine (Less Drowsy Dramamine). It works better than the regular Dramamine, which has Dipenhydramine.

For Nausea, make a cup of cinnamon tea & sprinkle ground cloves into it! Sip on the tea, until nausea is relieved. You can sweeten it a little with your favorite sweetener. I use a teaspoon of sugar, but you can substitute this with an artificial sweetener.

Just drink some soda water, seltzer, or sparkling water. They are all the same thing: Carbonated water. It may taste a bit strange, bvut I really works. Make sure to stay away from flavored sodas, especially artificial. Ginger ale works, also, and fresh squuzed lemonade. NOT store bought!!

I get nausea often.
I find taking a motion sickness tablet is the most helpful.
If not that..then I keep a cold compress on my head & on the back of my neck & try eating salted crackers and/or dry toast.

I have found that the 'wet mouth moment' right before you vomit, will ease and go away with short small sniffs of a medical alcohol sanitizing pad. The smell of the alcohol deadens the nerve to the stomach temporarrily and will keep you from vomiting at the wrong moment, IE work or in front of others with weak stomachs.(DO NOT inhale the pad, only a passig sniff.)
