This is a fail proof way to relieve and prevent leg cramps and other muscle spasms. Most people know that lacking potassium is one of the main causes of leg cramps. But most people do not know that another major cause is lacking magnesium. Soak in a bath of epsom salt (magnesium sulfate). It relaxes the muscles. Magnesium is more easily absorbed through the skin, by soaking in a warm bath with the epsom salt.

DRINK WATER.

If you are cramping, you are relatively dehydrated, relative to the amount of work your muscles have done.

Magnesium Oil is a good natural remedy for muscle cramps. Massage the oil into the cramp and it will be relieved within minutes.

Magnesium is a natural muscle relaxant. Internal intake of magnesium supplements are good for muscles, but may cause side effects like loose stools.

Transdermal or topical application of magnesium oil brings the benefit directly to the affected muscle for quick relief.

Magnesium Oil is hard to find in vitamin stores so far, but can be found online at globallight.com or country spirit.com

Muscle cramps are due to electrolyte (salt) shortages, primarily, Sodium, Potassium, magnesium and calcium, so if you have cramps, take some table salt for sodium, a banana for potassium, spinach or broccoli for magnesium, and yoghurt or milk for calcium. When your body has enough of these salts, your cramps will subside.

I have suffered with severe muscle cramps for several years. To rid myself of this problem I used coconut oil and cayenne pepper salve. *At the lowest heat possible warm the coconut oil and mix in enough cayenne pepper to a salve (you do not want to make it too thick...or it will not spread easily.) Massage into painful area slowly..taking time to really get it in the muscles. I use this twice a week now, to make sure the cramps do not come back.

No single remedy really works all the time. I have learned over the (painful) years, that I have do a series of things to be cramp-free. I am 65 y.o. and in good health. Former smoker, daily beer drinker.
Here's my daily routine to prevent cramps:
In the morning I take 3 tablets of Calcium/Magnesium and 3 tabs of Potassium.
4 times per day I stretch my calf muscles as far back as I can go for 45 seconds or more.
Every 3AM bathroom trip I drink an 8 ounce glass of Tonic with quinine. I raised the headboard of my bed by 5 inches.
Cramps used to force me to get up at 6AM, now I can sleep in late, without cramps.
Also, try not to sit on a chair with your legs folded underneath the chair.
It all seems like a lot of work, but it becomes a daily routine and it is worth it.

I ran across the penny remedy for leg cramps and thought that if the copper is the cure, why not get a couple of those copper bracelets and hold in your hand instead of pennies that have very litte copper if any at all. I'm going to try this for my cramps.

A retired nurse told me to put a bar of soap, like motel soap, between the bottom sheet and the mattress to stop leg cramps or charlie horses. It is amazing, but it works!

For a quick fix, putting bare foot on a cold floor will make a leg cramp disappear. Not always a permanent solution, but enough to let you get around.
