I've suffered from mucus and chest congestion since I was probably 7 or 8 years old and believe me nothing is scarier! I was on inhalers for a while because the doctors thought it was allergies or asthma but for some reason they took me off...anyways A friend of mine suggested: COFFEE! Coffee just loosens it all up and helps it come out in a vast amount pretty much freeing up your day!
Take this from someone who has mucus issues no matter what the time of year may be...whether I'm sick or not its always there! And coffee helps!:)
Also...stay away from peanut butter...chocolate...milk...soft bread...and bad water ( I try to drink really pure filterd water or WELL WATER!).
Taking a hot shower also helps and remaining calm is never a bad thing.

For yucky chronic nasal drainage (the kind you constantly have to clear your throat but can't do anything about because it is viral and must just run it's course because anti-biotics would be worthless), buy some chamomile tea bags, regular size, brand name(s) do not matter, brew about 3.5 minutes in the microwave, add a tiny amount of milk (just enough to change it's color) and 1.5 tablespoons of honey. That's it. My 10 year old son and I do it before bed since honey has a sleep inducing effect and we both sleep soundly through the night. He wasn't sure about the tea the first night but now he requests it regularly but I save it as 'special' tea when we both get the yucky crap. It really is simple but I promise you it works and tastes so much better than Ny-quil, not that I could get him to take Ny-quil w/o upchucking (even the large pills of it gag him). Give it a try a few nights and you'll see what I mean.

When you have mucus/phlegm in the throat due to post nasal drip, get some Silver Biotics (it is the only colloidal silver that really works for me) and make a nasal pray with this solution.

Don't add anything, just spray your nose 3 times daily, 2 spray in each nostril. It will fix the post nasal drip and allow the mucus to get out your nose.

THEN move on to the mucus and phlegm in the throat, here is an INSTANT remedy that will work 100%, all the time and it took me a minute to find this one.

1 - Get some Apple Cider Vinegar and mix it with 1/3 Apple Cider Vinegar, 2/3 cold water

2 - Do a gargle then bend over and stay in this position for as long as you can (minimum 3 minutes). Try to bend over and hold your feet.

3 - While bending, press your tongue against the roof of your mouth every 2 to 3 seconds.

What will happen is that:

a) The mucus/phlegm will attached itself to the mixture as Apple Cider Vinegar acts like a sponge.

b) The gravity will let the mucus/phlegm in your throat to fall in your mouth.

You will feel it falling inside your mouth and when you do, please do not stop because there are usually a lot more coming up.

So continue and each treatment should be at least 3 good gargles. You can do that as often as you like until the mucus/phlegm is completely removed. You can end your session by sucking on honey or drops to soothe your throat.

And VOILA!

Got post nasal drip? The best remedy is: Boil 1 cup of water and add about a tablespoon of honey, along with a tablespoon of 100% lemon juice. Stir until honey is dissolved. Drink when it cools down enough for you to tolerate but while still warm. Drink as many as needed per day. Along with that, drink plenty of water every day.

At the first sign of 'throat gunk', we take 2 Marshmallow Root capsules w/ each meal for a day or two till we start getting relief. Then, taper down to the dosage on the bottle. Also, go off cow's milk for awhile. This keeps me from getting full-blown bronchitis nearly every time!

I had a severe case of mucus. I couldn't sleep for 4 days. Every time i tried, I awoke smothered by the stuff. I was constantly clearing my throat. I did some research. I took 2 tablespoons of turmeric along with 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in tea. Take it every hour. I got relief in about 8 hours. It completely cured it. Turmeric is a miracle. Google it for further info. It really worked. I was surprised.
