Leg Cramps Home Remedies:

2 simple remedies to stop the onset of leg cramp. They both involve applying pressure to pressure points. One pressure point is between and to the front of the space between your big toe and the second toe. Firm pressure with one or two fingers at the onset of cramp will stop it instantly. The other pressure point is the Septum? which is the lower bone between the nostrils. Firm pressure on this point with the inside of the forefinger at the first sign of lower leg cramp will stop it dead. This last one sounds silly I know but please try it as it nearly always works.

A very simple remedy which sounds silly but it does work.
At the onset of cramp in the lower leg you can get instant relief by each of the following.
Press your forefinger into the joint between your big toe and second toe in the affected limb, the cramp will instantly go.
If you cannot reach the foot you can use the big toe of the other foot.
The second method is an old Chinese trick sounds crazy but please please try it as it works just as well as the first. At the very first sensation of cramp starting press the bone between your nostrils with the side of your forefinger. This pressure point always works for some unknown reason.
Please rate this remedy so others will know it works.

Relieve leg cramps instantly (no kidding!) take 'Hylands Leg Cramps'
I really suffered from these cramps and was astounded when these worked, and did so within seconds. Thank God!
To keep the cramps away, I take Potassium + Magnesium supplements, as the cramps were likely caused by these vitamin deficiencies

Take 2 - 600 (+D) Calcium vitamin tablets each day. Will stop leg cramps by about 90%. My husband had them really bad - his endocrinologist started him on that and it really works well. If he runs out of them, it starts back immediately.

I keep tonic water (as in Gin and Tonic)for leg cramps as it has quinine in it. It won't provide instant relief, but it will releive the cramp and prevent further ones for at least 24 hours. The small bottles are good for 1 - 2 'treatments.'

At least 4 ounces of pickle juice will stop leg cramps in less than 2 minutes. It's not too bad if it's cold and it works wonders.

For almost immediate relief from those night time leg cramps, I put about 1/3 teaspoon of salt under my tongue (seems to work faster that way) and the pain is usually gone by the time the salt desolves (at least this works for me).

For leg cramps, the quickest way I relieve the pain is rubbing alcohol rubbed into the skin of the leg as soon as I feel the cramp coming. This had always worked for me.

After suffering leg cramps for years I finally tried some Ginkgo Biloba 30mg herbal supplements. It took a couple of months to work, but now I have no more leg cramps at night. It's not a cure, but now I have relief after suffering for years. In the meantime I used the Blue-Emu cream that has emu oil, aloe, msm and glucosamine. This cream stopped the cramps within 5 minutes and I swear by this cream. Please research both of these and I'm sure it will help.

I have used an organic remedy for nearly a year now and it works amazingly. The product is made by Caleb Treeze Organic Farm and is actually based on an old Amish remedy. It's called Stops Leg Cramps, and I kid you not this stuff will stop even the most severe cramp right away and can also prevent them entirely for a good 24 hours. When I feel a cramp coming on I will sometimes even take a dose before I go to bed and not even have to worry about it.

For leg cramps especially during the night keep a piece of soap (any kind) in a sock or just at the bottom of your feet. It really works. One person keeps a piece of soap in his pocket all the time and my husband keeps a piece of soap in a sock when we travel on a plane. There is something in the soap that helps these cramps.

If you get leg cramps at night, try this: unwrap a bar of soap and put it under the bottom sheet of your bed where your legs will be. It should help right away.

To help prevent leg cramps I suggest 2 Tums a day and a banana before bed. Do not drink milk before bed it actually will cause a cramp. To relieve one do not make a sudden movement. Instead lay on your back (assuming its accures during sleep) and slowly point your toes up until they point toward your face. This will stretch the calf out but make sure not to stretch too hard. Then gently massage it. (I learned these few tricks while pregnant and suffered horrible leg cramps every night)

I take two pills by Metagenics called Myp-calm PM at bedtime. I also eat 1/2 of a banana and keep a bar of unwrapped soap under the cover near my feet. I will also delete milk toward the end of the day and press on the bone between my nostrils if there is an onset cramp.

For night time leg cramps that you can't seem to walk off in the calf or thigh, for years I will drink a glass of Gator Aid or eat a Banana, or a Banana and a glass of orange Juice. All of this stuff is high in potasium which the lack of seems to cause leg cramps.

pressing your finger on the nerve at the front between your big toe and second toe takes away leg cramp instantly providing it has not got hold. Another pressure point (believe it of beleive it not) is the bone between your nostrils, if you press this hard as soon as the cramp appears it will also work in most cases

I often see a recommendation to eat bananas to prevent leg cramps but that doesn't work for me -- I eat a banana every day and I still get them but I have found a solution. The cramp in my calf usually starts as I am bending my leg. I am awake enough to feel it starting and I immediately straighten my leg as quickly as possible and it stops cramping immediately.

For leg cramps, I take calcium, and homeopathy and most importantly, I also wear knee high athletic socks. The socks keep the calf and ankle muscles warm so they don't cramp. I cut the toes out of the sock so it doesn't get too hot and to free my toes. I'm going to try potassium next and see what that does.

I am 88 years old.
I use castor oil externally for many joint problems. It eliminates leg cramps as soon as applied.
