Fever Blisters Home Remedies:

I've had great success - 100% so far - preventing fever blisters. Take a raw aspirin (non-enteric coated). Put it in just a couple of drops of water till it turns to a gritty paste (just a minute or two, aspirin dissolves quickly). Apply this to the area. It has prevented - 100%- fever blisters for me, and the first time I used it, I already had one forming, and the aspirin paste stopped it in its tracks. I first tried this remedy because I read online a study in which chronic fever blister sufferers who went on a daily aspirin regimen for unrelated heart problems saw a dramatic reduction in their outbreaks. I took it one step further and applied it directly to the site, and so far it's been perfect. Good luck!

Whether you catch them early or late. Whether they are popped or still blisters. Neosporin now has a lip treatment formula. Clean the area with alcohol or peroxide and apply the lip treatment. The healing process with start immediately. Before bed, when u wake up and during the day one or twice. Mine have never lasted longer that 2 days but I'm sure it's different depending on the severity. Hope this helps someone.

Fight it from the inside AND the outside!!

Well, I have gone through years of suffering and decided to do a little research. This world consistently for me, so I hope it works for you!!

First let me say that popping, sqeezing, pricking or anything else that causes fluid to leak out is NOT wise. You may have a fluke of nature where this works but you will likely break out more no matter how much disinfectant you use.
I noticed when I have a breakout that my glands on that same side also swell and or I may get this when I'm getting sick our under the weather.

So I arm myself with:
Pink grapefruit airborn tablets,
zesty orange ester-c vitamin c packets,
abreva,
a large aloe vera leaf (the ones they sell in some stores in the produce section... About 8' long and very wide),
and a ton of ice.

Sounds like I'm about to tell you some back woods remedy right?

First, I do not use the vitamin c according to the package because they say you should limit the times you take it, and the more I did it upset my stomach but a small thing compared to my blister. I mix airborn and the vitamin c in 8oz of water and drink it every few hours - hoping to raise my immune system enough to help me fight this. When your body gets sick,.blisters etc... that your body can't prevent, I decided to start from the inside. Then as soon as u you feel that tingle, or hardness in your lip, drink the mix.

I then snap off a piece of slimy aloe vera and rub it all over the area, careful to always use a new piece when I repeat this. Be careful, it is highly bitter you will taste it for hours, and do not eat it! Aloe has healed bad burns and scars for me so I noticed it helped with this.

I then hold ice in a thin later of paper towel for about ten minutes in a way, it will almost feel like your lip swelled a bit but when the chill wears off, you will see that it didn't!!

Then follow up with a dab of abreva.

In two hours, I do it all again, and I keep repeating. This has prevented it from even errupting at all, but sometimes, I can't save it but one thing I will say is it took forever to get this 'remedy' and it works for me and fast. Even if it has broken through, the scab is sooooooo small and barely noticable. So if nothing else, it severly shortened healing time, took away the pain and made it nearly undetectable without that nasty crusty scab.

Things to avoid...
Hot liquids and foods. Reminded of chicken pox outbreak where my parents were told to give me hot fluids to make them come out faster! So true! So about this, eat cold cuts, salads, etc for a few days.

Soda, high sugar items

Greasy foods

No kissing, wash your hands constantly and stay awayyyyy from the kids!

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOTTTTTTT SLEEP ON YOUR SIDE AT NIGHT!! Particularly on the right side where it mostly occurs. Notice how your lip gets bigger in the morning and sometimes the glands on that side ache? You are causing fluid to build up in your lip. Bite the bullet and prop yourself up at night until it goes away and I don't mean a pillow or two, I mean basically in a reclined position. I use about 4 pillows, sound stupid, but I haven't had my issue longer than a couple days because I follow my steps and start away.from certain things.

ok, so i got my first cold sore about 4 days ago and i found out that fingernail polish remover will speed up the healing time because it dries it out very quickly! it healed in a bout a day and a half and all that is barely visible is a little red spot. so i went out in the sun all day yesterday and burnt my lips and woke up this morning with swollen lips and covered in bumps which i am not sure are fever bisters, cold sores, or just blisters from being burnt. so when i woke up i immediately began putting several remedies together, here they are:

1. i started with holding ice cubes on my lips until they melted completely

2. then pour some alcohol on a folded papertowel or wash clothe and hold it on there for as long as you can stand or until it has evaporated.

3. the alcohol really dried up my lips so then i went and broke off a piece of aloe vera plant (or any aloe vera) and rubbed on my lips to put moisture back in.

the swelling has gone down some and the bumps are actually gone! also blistex chapstick helps put moisture back in and it has a cooling sensation when you first put it on which feels amazing!

I've tried lysine, ice, peroxide, and yes, even bleach.

Take 500-1000 mg of lysine when you first feel the tingle. Take the same amount the next day. Then take half of that for the next few days. Lysine is fairly inexpensive and can be found in the vitamins/minerals of any store.

In addition, also try applying ice; a wet black-tea bag; cornstarch, aspirin, aloe vera.

Anyone who suffers from fever blisters knows how embarrassing and painful they are, even when small. While some of the suggested remedies may be toxic or dangerous, I'm not surprised that people go to these lengths to get rid of them. I'd try almost anything. I wish someone would find a way to cure it.

I get fever blisters about 3xyear. My treatment was always campho phinique (sp) and would suffer for atleast a week. NOT THIS TIME. On day two, I put an ice cube on the blister 15 min. A small blister had already formed so I popped it and put apple cider vinegar with a qtip. Didn't sting too much. Did this all day with ice cube n ACV. At night night I slept with toothpaste on it. (White aquafresh) next day was almost completely gone. Next day continued with ACV. It will dry out and not spread. This will be my treatment from now on. Hope it helps.

I gotten fever blisters a least a few times a year for about 20 years. I have two remedies to share. The first one is ACV. Most people know about Apple Cider Vinegar these days, but for those who don't, it is simple: Drink 1-2 Tbs of organic, unfiltered apple cider vinegar mixed with a full glass of water every day (on an empty stomach is best). When taken consistently, I do not get any fever blisters at all. However, since this requires a certain amount of discipline, there are times when I go off ACV for a while and the fever blisters come back.
My other suggestion is Grapefruit Seed Extract. I use Nutribiotic. It is something I have used for other ailments for over 10 years, but only recently discovered it's use for fever blisters. At any stage of the breakout use your fingertip to dab just 1 drop of GSE directly on the blister and it stops the breakout in it's tracks. Even when it is just pre-blister tingles, if you use it then, the blister will never form. My experience has been no-fail. Every time I have used GSE it has performed just as I stated. Please note: Grapefruit Seed Extract is very strong in it's full form, and for other uses it is always heavily diluted. So do not use more than a drop, maybe 2. Only apply to affected area. And do not repeat for several hours (though I normally do not have to repeat at all).
I hope this works as well for others as it has for me. Good Luck!

So yesterday in the middle of math and completely out of the blue, I start to feel achey, I get home from class and I'm freezing to death, and I'm so weak I can barely move. I had a tremendous fever and only God knows why. I swallowed 4 ibuprofen and within 2 hours I felt better. I still had a small fever but I wasn't shivering anymore. I woke up this morning, and lo and behold, what do I see? I giant blister in the corner of my mouth. I've read all the remedies on here and most them seem like sound treatments. My mom told me about keeping some deodorant on there. I thought she was crazy, but instantly some of the tingle and the hurt was relieved. After the 3rd time I'd put some on though it didn't seem to have any effect. So I took a women's one a day, melted an ice cube on my lip until it was numb and then I held an unlit match tip to it. It stung, but I think that's because it's a freakin' fever blister. So, then I put some lotion with eucalyptus, peppermint, and tea tree oils on it. Then a wet tea bag. I plan to try some lysine, and maybe an o.t.c. remedy. We shall see.

The only thing that has ever worked for my fever blisters is EAR WAX. It sound gross but its true. It goes away the same day or sometimes the next day. If you can catch the blister when its trying to come, you can actually prevent it from coming at all. I have tried everything. You gotta try this

So,I have been getting cold sores basically all of my life. I dont know about you guys but when I feel a cold sore coming on, I just want to CRY my eyes out because I dont want people too see that ugly thing on my lips.
Well anyways, last night, I felt a little tingling in my lip, which means that a cold sore is coming on. I always keep my Abreva handy because I am one of the few that have been lucky that this works. Well, I add the Abreva to contain the cold sore, and usually, when I catch it at an early stage like it was last night, the Abreva takes care of it. But not this time, because when I woke up this morning, the thing was not gone, but hadnt spead because of the Abreva. So then, I iced the sore for about 1-1. 5 hours and then I take a sterile needle and pop the blisters. I IMMEDIATELY take Hydrogen Peroxide and soak the sore with it and then I ice again. I keep applying Abreva, Blistex, and drink plenty of water thoughout the day, and now you can barely see the thing, it just looks like a little cut on my lip! (: Hope this technique works for you because It has helped me.! :D

I was told to try this and it worked. Take 2 mounded tsp. of cream of tartar and mix with about 1/3 c tepid water. Stir until it dissolves. Drink this and chase with cold water (it tastes like asprin). I tried it after the fever blister had started swelling and it dried up and went away quickly. Next time, I'll try it as soon as I feel the tingling.

My fever blister was minor so I'm not sure if this will work for everyone but it worked wonders on mine. First dip a q-tip in some alcohol place it on the blister,it may sting a bit, then rub some Blue Star ointment on it. You can do this up to 3 times a day and in a few day it will be completly gone. Hope this helps

If you can go to a doctor or even urget care, ask them for acyclovir. A customer of mine told me about it, and the blister NEVER develops. Don't waste your time with home remedies that still cause you to deal with a sore for a few days. Once I feel the tingle, I take a pill. Then I take a couple more the next few days, to make sure it doesn't develop. I never use the full prescription, I keep some of it for the next time, and always have the doctor give me up to three refills.

I get fever blisters about once a year when I get a really high fever. Mine aren't small. They are huge and take up a majority of my right upper lip. They last as long as a month!! I hate it. This year I finally tried something other than just Abreva (although this is a GREAT purchase for relief). Here's the trick I used this year and it lasted only about a week:
Pop the blister as soon as it forms.
Everyday dab a Q-Tip in rubbing alcohol and rub it on the blister (this burns like crazy, but dries it out super quick). Do this about 3 times an hour.
At night put Abreva on the blister using a Q-Tip and over the Abreva put Neosporin (using a separate Q-Tip) on the blister to shorten healing time and scarring.
This works so well for me! I hope it works as well for you!

For fever blisters the best remedy I have been able to find, while not very legal even though the many medical ailments it helps, marijuana is my best home remedy. Now, I don't consider myself a stoner due to the fact that I actually use it for its medicinal purposes. Headaches, insomnia, but this is also one place it helps me. Now I suggest only doing this process at home when you have the day off and are just starting to feel that tingle come on. Basically the process is to smoke until you literally forget about that tingle sensation or just don't care about it anymore. usually one half joint will do the trick if it's good bud. Then make yourself a strong pot of green tea with a little honey and drink the whole pot. Relax for as much of the day as possible smoking again if necessary. The blister may still come but if you don't use any type of ointment or chapstick it should be gone within a day or two and it won't show up like the crazy blister you don't want. Obviously use a little chapstick if your lips are crazy chapped but try not to put it on the sore.

as soon as you feel the tingle or itch, when its about to come up, put some concealer or base makeup on it, this dries it out. then after about a day when its dried out, if it breaks open put salt in it. (burns like crazy). then after the scabs heal, neosporin for minimal scarring. hope it helps :)

As soon as I realized I was coming down with a fever blister....I was thinkin oh great here we go again, so I decided to try something different, because I didn't catch it in time this time, the blister had formed over night, so I took a clean steralized needle popped the blister, immediatley cleaned it with peroxide, washed my lips with antibacterial hand soap, cleaned with peroxide again, and applied carmex lip balm I didthid about three times that day, the next day the sore was completley dried out, but was left with a scab that took a few days to go away, keep cleaning it with the soap/peroxide for a few days after the first application if the first time don't work for you.

It's simple really. I have had fever blisters all my life, and I read about this in a beauty mag, and it works. When you feel the blister coming on, put ice on it for 15 minutes (about the time it takes for an ice cube to melt). Wrap it in a paper towel, so it's less cold to the site. Do that again, about a half hour later, and it freezes the virus, and prevents the blister from forming. It's worked for me without fail for years, now! Good luck!

I had a huge fever blister pop up on my lower lip 2 days ago, a few started in the corner of my mouth and 1 tiny on the upper lip started yesterday morning. I was searching my medicine cabinet and ran across a tube of Bikini Zone and figured 'oh why not?'. I washed the areas with warm water and antibacterial soap and then applied the gel, on the blisters only, with a Qtip. To my surprise the tiny bump on the upper lip is GONE the huge blister is smaller (minimal scabbing) and the ones in the corner are barely noticeable. Not to mention the gel cools/numbs the area so you are pain, itch and tingle free for a while. No popping of the blister is necessary for this application. Hope this helps you like it helped me!

My husband gets fever blisters all the time and has tried everything out there on them and nothing seems to ever work. One day he decided to put 'chiggaurd' on it because it creates a kind of barrior so that air and moisture cannot get to the blister and feed it. My husband relies on this own remedy of his so much that he carries it around in his pocket when he has a fever blister. Chiggaurd is an over the counter medicine you can get for chiggar and mosquito bites and such. It also has camphor in it which is also a healing ingredient. The only thing about chiggaurd is that it has to be applied often because the sealant barrior that it creates does come off easily due to licking your lips and such and it becoming in contact with saliva.

At first sign apply over the counter Releev. Apply every few hours to keep blister from forming. If it formed while you were sleeping like mine, pop blister with needle and alternate ice for 15 min amd acv or rubbing alcohol to dry it out. Apply toothpaste overnight to help dry it out while sleeping.

Coconut oil. It has natural antimicrobial/antiviral properties.

This works great as a lip gloss/lip conditioner too so use it regularly and you should see a lesser occurance of fever blisters (if it doesn't eliminate them completely). Buy a small pill tin (or fill a contact case) so you can keep some with you.

You can get it in the health food section of most grocery stores. If not, all health food stores have it. It's solid but it will liquify at body temperature.

This is also a great lotion for dry skin and healthier to cook with than most oils.

If you are someone who frequently gets fever blisters or cold sores, try applying fingernail polish remover every few minutes (it dries quickly) when you are aware of an upcoming outbreak. This sounds extreme (it will not burn unless the sore is advanced), but I have used this treatment for years and apply it with an eye drop bottle and it totally stops the virus from growing into a sore. If you don't catch it until it becomes a blister, simply use a clean needle to puncture the blister an apply the remover until it appears to halt the growing process and use Abreva until the sore has healed.

Ok, here it is... but first let me say this probably won't work for everyone. It works for me and has worked for the last 3 years I've been doing it and I have had 3 years being fever blister free!

What I do is as soon as I feel a fever blister coming I pinch the area of lip. I will continue to pinch that area a lot at first and gradually throughout the next 8 hrs or so less and less often. It does hurt to pinch this swollen and sensitive area. It hurts about as much swollen gums.

I will start off pinching my lip for a minute or two. Take a short break, about 2-5 minutes and then repeat. I will do this for an hour, the next hour I'll pinch for less time and take longer breaks. Eventually I'm only pinching for 20 sec. and breaking for 15 min. At the end I may only pinch my lip a few times an hour. I just keep pinching until that area's sensitivity has finally disappeared.

I will pinch every area that is sensitive and hurts. If it hurts then I know to keep pinching that area. Often the sensitive area is larger than what my finger and thumb can cover, so I'll have to pinch several areas right next to each other. No I don't pinch so hard that my lips as normal would hurt. It only hurts because the fever blister area is extra sensitive.

I know most will think of me as a fool, but it works for me. Will it work for you? You'll find out if you try. Anyways what's there to lose. Its just a physical remedy, no drugs, nothing else and it's free. Best of all I've not had a fever blister is over three years and I probably would have had 8 in that span of time.

-Good Luck !

When I first noticed the fever blister starting I brewed a cup of tea. I then used the used tea bag when cool and held it on the blister for a minute or so. I did this on and off for over an hour, then a few hours later, reapeated with a new used tea bag.
I only had 1 day that the fever blister was hot and throbing instead of 5. It truely did work and was not at all painful like other remedies.

Since a fever blister is a form of herpies the best thing to take is Valtrex. You can even ask your dentist for a perscription. You don't have to take them everyday just when you first notice the blister starting to form. Take one or two a day until it disappers and ta daaa it will disappear. This usually takes about 2 days if you catch it early.
