Eczema Home Remedies:

I'm 30 years old and I have suffered with eczema my whole life. Unfortunately it only seems to get worse as I get older. The only time I have experienced what felt like a true cure, was pregnancy. I never felt better in my life. Literally the day I gave birth, my eczema came back with a vengeance. It was so bad at one point that I had to stop nursing my baby to take several high potency drugs to give me relief. Fortunately I was able to resume nursing after 2 weeks, but again, the eczema got worse and worse, especially on my face causing all kinds of scarring and discoloration.
I have 1 thing and 1 thing only that has offered me the most relief (not cure, cuz as we all know, there doesn't seem to be one). But what has truly helped keep my eczema at bay is juicing! Here's what I do:
Once a day I juice (I have a Jack LaLane, but the Breville is also great) I try to pick mostly green leafy veggies, including cucumber, and 1inch each of ginger and turmeric root, as well as an apple for sweetness (everything should be organic as veggies w/o fiber go directly to your blood stream). Warning-the juice does not taste good! But here's the bright side-you can gulp it down in about 4 drinks, after a while you're taste buds will adjust and it will become more palatable, and best of-it helps, so isn't it worth it?!?!? After my first 2 weeks I noticed that the inflammation went down tremendously. My skin even takes on a dewey, healhty glow). My 2 year old has terrible eczema too and while I give him the juice everyday too, he does not seem to be getting the same relief as I am. I am puzzled. If anyone has some wisdom on this, please share!!!
Other things I recommend are eating a whole foods diet-protein, grains, veggies, fruit, all organic, and limited to no processed sugar and dairy. Incorporate anti-inflammatory foods (google them).Get lots of sunlight-it is amazing what a relief sitting in the direct sun can be! Sweating is good too (I find that I don't sweat a lot and I wonder if that's part of the problem), sitting in the sauna at the gym helps, it stings if you have open cuts, but again, it's worth it)! Of course, working out is a great way to bring on the sweating too! Drink tons of water and also green tea ( it's one of the top 10 anti-inflammatory foods). Only use all natural products-skin care, make-up, laundry detergent, etc.
Keep the steroids on hand for emergencies. I hate that I need them, but sometimes I do turn to them as a LAST resort when the pain and itching is just too much for my son and I (but now that I juice, I only need the over counter strength and that's enough to help). When the itching is bad, wearlong sleeves. I find that I scratch less when my skin is covered. Always keep your nails short too! Prayer!! Reach out to the Lord for healing, as He is the Great Healer! God Bless those of you who suffer from eczema, my prayers are with you!

After many years without having eczema, I got an allergic reaction to pistachios. I immediately drank more of the XanGo juice and also made a paste of it and applied it directly to my arm and it disappeared immediately. I have been drinking 2oz daily of this delicious juice everyday for the last two years for prevention of other health conditions, I just increased the dosage to 4 oz. Highly recommend it.

It wasn't mentioned that the skin is an organ that helps remove toxins and impurities from the body, validating it is an internal as well as external problem.
I don't believe any specific foods such as dairy or sugar may necessarily cause or make it worse. I think that is a very individual thing.
I thank the folks for the turmeric info. I am gonna try that asap. I mostly have it in my scalp. Applying oily greasy stuff does not make for a good hairdo. lol

Hi, i've tried all forms of home remedy, what really worked for me is eczecure, apparently it is based on ancient ayurveda technique of mixing turmeric powder with soy and rice flour. After consuming it for about 1 week, there was a really huge improvement and my eczema is cleared now

My 3 yr old daughter suffered with eczema for about 2 years now and I have tried EVERYTHING from steirod creams to home remedies with apple cider vinegar.
Nothing has worked on my daughter except diaper rash cream (TRIPLE PASTE) and this worked great but didn't cure her eczema. but I came across this website talking about using kiwi fruit and putting it on the infected area and I was so very skeptical but decided to try it. I tried everything else nothing has really worked except the diaper rash cream but I wanted it GONE for good. So I tried it and it worked. Honestly. Her hands were the most affected and I mostly put it on her hands and not her whole body because it stings a bit and since she is young. Now when ever she gets a break out which is TOTALLy due to sugar (when grandma gives some treats) she NEVER breaks out on her hands but her body breaks out. So I know for a fact it is the kiwi that did it!!! Please I know it sounds weird but this really works. just give it a try you have nothing to lose, especially if you tried everything else. It is safe and 100% effective in my opinion.
I suggest, after you follow the kiwi treatment, the skin might be a little red so put the diaper rash cream on and I really promise you, it will be life changing!!!
for some reason this website will not allow me to post any links so if you google or type in the search box:
Michael chin's eczema and kiwi it should come up.
Good luck to all

my 2 year has recently showed symptoms on his cheeks, arm and leg pits. I'm using pure organic coconut oil before bed. by morning it's gone. From what I'm reading here, I need to put it on a couple times a day every day to keep it at bay. I was wondering why it's not just 'going away' for good ;o(. he loves to help spread it all over himself...get those kids involved!

Turmeric (the stuff in curry spice) is an incredible anti-inflammatory and will help all eczema sufferers. It is proven as effective as steriods/corticosteriods, but don't let the pharmaceutical companies know that.

Buy Turmeric from healthfood store in pill form and take 3-6 pills 500mg daily. Or mix with tea or put in food.

Eczema has a link with Candida fungus. When you eat sugars, it feeds the fungus which causes your body to 'overreact' or become inflamed. Your immune system attacks fungus around your entire body including skin, hence the itchie, scaly skin. (it's actually more complex, but I am shortening it up a bit)

Avoid sweets, gluten, dairy or foods with fungus to balance out your intenstinal flora. Find out slowly how much sweets, etc you can safely eat w/o showing symptoms. However, I suggest detox for the first few weeks including lost of Omega 3's (from Salmon, perhaps).

Many dermatologist don't recognize the above well established science and prescribe dangerous drugs.

Eczema is genetic and enviromental based. This means that you can effectively cure it, although technically it is not curable.

my son has had eczema since he was born. He has it on behind his knees and on top of his feet. he used to scratch so much he would bleed. (it's hard to get a toddler to no scratch!) we tried EVERYTHING! even hte very expensive prescription stuff. the only thing that has worked for him is BAG BALM! every night after bath it was aour ritual, feet and legs covered in bag balm. now the only time we have to do that is in the winter, it gets really dry here. but it keeps the itching and redness away. it's inexpensive as well. look for it at walmart or pet stores.(it was made for dry cracked cow udders) it's in a green square tin. i swear by it!

I have had eczema all my life, severe, to gone and back again. Whenever it comes up sticking to the below always removes or improves my condition depending on how bad it is at the time.....

1) Green Tea is my life savor, it cools my skin and body from the inside. I drink it constantly all day with water. 5-10 cups a day. As mostly the skin bubbles with heat anything cooling the agrivation helps.

2) Pear juice in particular cools the skin.

3) A flannel rubbed with moisturizer (Vaseline / you usual eczema cream, not steriods!), put in the frezzer put on a very Red & itcy area will immediately help.

4) I strictly avoid citrus friuts (take vitamin C to replace), Red friuts, all wheat & dairy products, spicy food, chilli, anything too sugary, food with colouring, ketchup, sweets, coke, alcohol etc. (Cook fresh as it's in the additives, & colouring, even avoid like Soy sauce, balsamic vinegar. It's where you don't expect). Be aware of each item you digest, and you can eliminate.

5) I bathe in dead sea salt, with a non scented bath oil frequently to avoid infection.

6) Avoid dust mites: Clean! Everything, use mattress covers, bed sheet covers, you can kill dust mites by frezzing. (A teddy bear/pillow/blanket).

7) Moisturize!! From the inside and out. So take oil suppliments, EPO is my fave, but also use flaxseed / starflower / GLA etc mix it up so you get a good cover. Hydrus ointment, double base, and Eparderm are my faves.

8) Most of the time for me, it's because I'm stressed/tired/burning the candle/been ill with colds and flu, so just take care of yourself.

9) Use only unscented skin friendly products for everything. Non bio washing powder.

10) Eat lots of oily foods, fish, nuts, and avocados, as well as superfoods for immune boosting.

11) Remember to see your doctor, you could have a blood / skin infection, virus, fungus, if it's a randon/severe outbreak. (My most recent outbeaks have been fungal, even if they don't like fungal, the doctor will prescibe you some creams for this).

12) Protopic, accupuncture, and homopathy have also helped me. I hate steroids, they are no fix, but good if you are desperate.

I really hope this helps someone, Eczema at any stage is hideous! If anything can ease it, it's worth trying.

Good luck
xxxxx

I've suffered from eczema my entire life.(i'm 25 years old) Seen countless dermatologists and allergists in search for something to give me relief. I use to scratch none stop, clothing and bedding would be covered in blood from the constant scratching. I've been put on everything imaginable from steroid pills to creams, even Prednisone just to give me 2 weeks of relief. As of two months ago I havent touched my steroid creams or pills and I no longer itch. All due to something as simple as a LEMON. I apply lemon juice freshly squeezed to all areas of my body (I have eczema everywhere) It acts as an natural antiseptic. Killing the germs that I was spreading through scratching. Yes there was an initial sting but it lasted no longer than 5 seconds. I apply this 2 times a day and exfoliate at night using a 1 part lemon 1 part sugar mix. Never changed my diet or how I lived. Still use scented soaps, lotions, perfumes. Besides my eczema being cured the scars that came along with them are now fading. Which turned out to be a double benefit to using lemon juice (its a natural bleach). Also some people might think it would be drying to the skin. But it seems to have the opposite effect for me.I never have to apply lotion. This has helped me as person who was told my doctors, dermatologist, and allergist that I have the worst case they have seen and there is nothing they can do.
Good luck to everyone!

I suffer from eczema on my hands (and when it's really bad other areas) usually in the spring and summer and the ONLY thing that has helped me has been to get out of my house and spend the day outdoors and in the sun. I notice that the more active I am, and the more time I spend outdoors, the less I have flare ups. Unfortunately, I'm having a flare up right now, but it's cloudy and rainy outside.

After a couple desperate attempts to tame the eczema on my baby's legs (cortizone, benadryl, lanacane), I read some of the articles here and implemented the at-home remedies I found listed. This is what worked for me.
An oatmeal bath 2x day (Aveeno). At nightly bath I integrated in small parts a 1/2 cup of olive oil mixed with a tsp. turmeric into the oatmeal bath. I spooned the mixture directly onto the affected areas and gently rubbed it into sore areas. The remainder I added to the bathwater.
After a good soak and while the area was still moist I rubbed legs with plain olive oil and dressed the legs in loose fitting cotton pants. (Natural materials seem less likely to provoke onset of rashes)

Results: After two days the rash is almost invisible and the welts have gone down considerably. Will continue to apply as needed.

...Which goes to show a little holistic medicine never does hurt!

Honey, salt, and light
I had psoriasis on my hands so severe I couldn't tie my kids shoes or keep my house clean for four years. Splits all over my fingertips and between my thumb and index fingers were excruciating. This is what I've learned. The topical steroids worked at first, but over time actually worsened the condition and thinned my skin (even though the MD said it wouldn't on my hands.) I quit using them, which made it worse for awhile, but then gradually improved. I use salt soap (without perfumes or additives), light therapy, and a hand lotion with honey in it. (Burt's Bees grape seed and honey). I also cut out most (not all) processed and refined sugar in my diet. I now have a little flaky skin, but I can live with it. It's not painful!! I played basketball with my boys yesterday! The transformation wasn't overnight, but it only took about three weeks.

I think we need to look at why our immune systems are overreacting -- why don't we ever ask what they are overreacting to? I think maybe it's an overgrowth of bacteria/fungus in our systems. Think about it; salt is a natural disinfectant. Sunlight is a natural disinfectant. Honey has natural antimicrobial/antifungal properties (otherwise it wouldn't sit on your shelf so long without spoiling, right? I used to bake bread, and bakers would always say that recipes that used honey improved the bread's 'keeping qualities.') So maybe all those years I had underlying secondary fungal and bacterial skin infections that were worsened by the steroid use (they suppress the immune system). Maybe we should work with our immune systems instead of fight them. Wishing you the best.

I have struggeled with Eczema for 39 years and have tried all the above mentioned home remedies plus some! I have woken up with bloody sheets as a kid from the constant scratching.I have had it to the point of seeping and blistering. From Noxzema to Penaten (German zinc diaper rash cream)gold cream and all typs of Hydrocortioson steroid creams Eucerin, Aveeno, Satin hands from Mary Kay you name it. I can say without fail you can try to controll your symptoms, but there is no cure all. I believe one or the other thing will help relieve your symptoms just like I believe there are different grades severity of Eczema or dermatities. Eczema relates directly to your immun system and the fact is
a- your enviroment
b- what you eat
c- stress
has a direct affect on your outbreaks. You got to treat it all to get reliefe. I have found out chocolate and tomatoes is a problem for me and I also canot peel a orange, tangerine or potatoe without getting the immediate effect of itching. Prescription Hylira Hydrating lotion is wonderful and works for me also the emollient night cream from Mary Kay. Takes the itch away right away. Watch what sets you off on food. Acidics, Dairys, know what makes your body tick. It is different for everyone I can tell you that talking to different people with eczema over the years has taught me that. Keep a diary for food and mood for a couple of month then make adjustments that work for you. Expecially take a load of slow down. I have learn to live with Eczema and I am 95% of the time symptom free, but make no mistake there is always the chance of a flare up, for me mostly due to my chocolate indulgence brought on by a stressful day at work or home. Good luck to everyone and I hope you find reliefe.

I have had hand eczema for over a year now and have tried the creams and the pills. Over the past month or so it got so severe that my hands looked prehistoric. They were swollen and scaley. I could not bend a finger and it is very painful. As a mother of a 6 month old and a 6 year old you can only imagine that everything was impossible for me to do. After doing hours upon hours of research I came up with my own inexpensive remedy. Just after one day of using sea salts (you can find them anywhere, Wal-mart under $5,etc) it has dramatically made a difference. It does sting a bit but it is very effective. Pour a cup in your WARM (not hot) bath water and soak for 15-20 min. Afterwards I apply Burt's Bees Coconut Foot Creme (under $10) all over the affected area. It is working extremely well!! I have to share the news. I also found desitin diaper rash cream to help with the ithching and inflammation. If you want to go even further buy some probiotics to help your body fight the eczema. I HOPE THAT THIS WILL HELP SOMEONE :) MY HEART GOES OUT TO ALL THAT SUFFER WITH ECZEMA.

Hi,
My son is 2 1/2 yrs old. He Suffered with dry skin and dry patches with blood coming out of it since he was 3 months. It use to be sever only during winter, but recent times this started getting worse even in summer, he use to wake up in the middle of night with all rashes and keep scratching his legs and arms. His doctor prescribed non steroidal first time and it didn't work, so she prescribed steroidal cream. The Doc said the side effect for these steroidal are he may get cataract, thinning of the skin and so on. I dont want to use any kind of steriodial cream on my son's body. I searched all over the web, read 100s of post from other people and tried different things. Nothing worked at first, I tried two or three different suggestions at the same time. Someone suggested BACK BALM, (you can get this in rite aid, walgreens or any drug store. Its $9.00) someone posted that it worked for their kids. But BAG BALM didnt worked for my son, I tried for a week.

This is what I tried for past 3 days and his rashes are gone and his skin is smooth. He is slowly getting back to normal. Hope this works

1. I tried to limit his dairy intake(reduced his milk intake,I didn't avoided it though.)
2. As soon as he wake up in the morning, I mixed Vaseline(baby) with Aveeno daily moisturizer in my palm and applied the affected area.
3. Before his bath time the first day I mixed 'TURMERIC POWDER(you can get this in any Asian-Indian store) 1/4 spoon with 4 oz of olive oil'. I applied all over his body and more on his affected area and allow it to absorb for 15 minutes before his bath. Half hour before his bath time, I soaked raw regular oats(put 1/2 cup oats in a socks and tie it with rubber band and put it inside a bowl of warm water and just squeeze the sock with your hands for 10 minutes or so inside the water). Then bath him with this water and then use baby liquid soap twice or thrice just to remove the yellow strain form his body and wash him throughly. Pat him dry and apply vaseline & avenoo baby lotion mixture. Dress him in cotton dress.

4. After this first bath with turmeric and oilve oil, before every bath(morning and evening) just use olive oil. Apply all over his body for 10 minutes, massage him well and give him bath. Then pat him dry and apply the Vaseline & Aveeno Baby lotion mixture. Do this with every bath.

Trust me just two days you will see tremendous difference.

P.S. (Turmeric powder is too yellow and leaves stain where ever you use, so to remove yellow stain use '409' spray as soon as the stain).

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to whomever it was who suggested lemon juice and olive oil! I had a major flare-up recently that started on the inside of my right foot (where it usually does), and this time spread to almost the entire foot and my lower right leg too. The itching was absolutely intense and just about made me want to cry, and I'm a 38 year old man! Tried every anti-itch product on the market, most of which were completely useless. I found an herbal product called DermaE, which helped take the edge off the itch for a little while, but that's about it. My foot and leg were red and swollen, skin was scaly, painful, and had wounds from me scratching so hard. One week ago today, I found this site and read about lemon juice in one post, and olive oil in another post. I ran out during my lunch break at work and bought some, and sat in the car and applied it.

What a difference a week makes! I can't say the itching is completely gone, but it's about 90% better, and each day is better than the last. The skin is no longer red and swollen, and doesn't feel like a crocodile anymore! It looks and feels like a normal foot again!

2-3 times each day, I do the following: Cut a chunk of lemon and rub it on the skin, while slowly squeezing it to make sure the juice comes out. Will it sting? Of course it will! But in a 'hurt-so-good' kind of way. Rub lemon juice over it for a few minutes, then apply olive oil. I also apply a little bit of Desitin Creamy diaper rash ointment, for the extra zinc, and to help heal the skin. So yes, it will look like a white, greasy mess... but the Desitin disappears after a few minutes and then I dab off the extra oil and put a sock back on.

This has worked so well to control this flareup! As I've done more research over the past few weeks, I've come to believe what others have said... that the effects of eczema can be controlled, but not cured with topical treatments. So as well as the lemon juice/olive oil/Desitin treatment seems to be working to control the symptoms, I will also soon be starting an herbal treatment for candida, which I have a suspicion may be at the root of this.

Anyway, if you're really suffering from an outbreak, try the lemon juice, olive oil, Desitin - it's working for me!

Each body is different. To say there is one magic cure for ecxema is absurd. KNOW YOUR BODY. I had a doctor tell me to never use vaseline on ecxema. Guess what! If flareup was caught early, it worked better FOR ME than the prescription ointments and creams. Stress will cause a flareup IN SOME PEOPLE, so do whatever works for you to relax. Stress free exercise, preferably in fresh air seems to calm and help. Also, a healthy diet with lots and lots of water (add lemon occasionally), fresh fruits and vegetables and fish along with healthy cold pressed oils will benefit the majority of ecxema sufferers. It's my opinion that anything that helps the liver will help with controlling ecxema. If this doesn't help, keep trying til you find what works for you.

Hello,
I'm 23 years old and have been suffering from eczema off and on all my life. I've tried shots, creams, pills and nothing had ever seemed to really work. Im a college student and it was so bad that I had to walk around in 90 degree weather with jackets on just so I could hide from the embarrassment of the discoloration and redness of my arms and neck. I finally found something that cleared my eczema outbreak up in 3 days. I did it three times a day for 3 days straight and my arms were clear and smooth by the third day...
The Remedy:
Take an oatmeal bath and soak for at least 20 minutes...after you soak in the oatmeal.. take a shower and wash with Oil Of Olay Body Butter Ribbons...then use Oil of Olay's in shower body lotion and rinse off....after showering, pat your skin dry with a towel...then apply Aveeno hydrocortisone to the affected areas and rub in...then apply Noxema 'the original' skin cleansing cream and rub in....Lastly apply Palmer's cocoa butter formula all over your body..

Your skin will feel smoother than ever before...it may seem like alot of steps but it actually works and its alot better than the itching and iritation of eczema...I guarantee you that if you repeat this...for 3 times, 3 times a day...you'll be happier than ever

sounds weird, but it worked for me and my son, CRISCO, plain and simple, rub it in, and let it soak. It cleared mine up after all the ointments failed. My 4 month old had it on his head, my wife tried all the fancy stuff, didn't work. A $1.79 can of Crisco cleared it up in two day.

For Eczema relief I sometimes wash with bleach it stops the dry itch from eczema. bleach is a vary powerful chemecal it's best to test it first on an itchy area to see if it works for you..
plus changing laundry detergents from regular to all natural no chemicals helps. I notice the regular detergents have chemicals that bother my sensitive skin..all natural ( No sodium laureal sulphites work best)..after a shower I started putting the bag of balm ointment on it's used for cow utters or something yet I feel much better from it. it also helps provide moisture to my skin..

My daughter is 7 and has had eczema since birth. She has it over 70% of her body but worse in the creases of her body. She has had skin test after skin test and they found she is allergic to eggs, beef, dyes, fragrance, mold, trees, grass and many other things. Her eczema is usually always out of control no matter what I do. But I took her to a different allergy specialist and he has her on a GREAT plan that works wonders. We both cried each night at bath time because of the burning but it has got alot better with this plan. The plan is:

Allegra 2x/day
Singular RX 1x/day
Periactin RX 1x/day
50/50 apple cider viniger and water on bad areas
Aquaphor several times a day
Curel with the National Eczema Assoc. seal on it
Derma-Smoothe RX (dont dry off, apply right out of the shower)

This was the miracle combo!!! Parents that deal with this everyday with their children are real troopers. Maybe one day their will be a complete cure, but until then I'm sticking to what I know helps and I hope it helps you too.

when i was little i had eczema really bad all over my hands my mom tried everything, but what ended up making it go away was taking Thuja 200 C. After a few weeks it was completely gone and i havn't had it again until now. im 17 now and a small patch has turned up on the bass of my ring finger, it has slowly spread to my palm and has horrible blisters all over it. i covered it with bandaids so that i wouldnt itch and then i started putting neosporin on it. Neopsorin with bandaids everyday made the itching and burning stop. then i went to whole foods and found thuja, the highest dose you can get is 30X. otherwise you have to get it prescribed form a doctor. my eczema is almost completely gone and doesn't bother me at all.

As an 18 year old female having battled with complete body eczema from as far back as i can remember, i was shocked to find that the best remedy for me was the simplest!

After trying every ointment and steriod treatment under the sun, i discovered that olive oil relieved the itching immediately, however it needed to be light (extra virgin). i saw results within a week.

here is the method i used:
1 - spray olive oil over the body / affected areas and rub in for 5-10 minutes.

2- get into warm shower and continue to rub the oil into the skin.

3- when finished shower, pat dry and use an oat based moisturiser.

This works best with showers as you wash the excess oil away! i found that this prevented the flares and also stopped itching. i am able to use natural soaps, although i opt for oat and honey based typed. (type 'LUSH' into google, 'figs and leaves' is a good one!)

Not only has my eczema subsided, my skin has a natural healthy glow. with the product being completely natural, you can do this as often as you like.

warning: bath or shower can be slippery afterwards, clean and rinse well!!

Quit eating dairy products of all kinds. No milk products. My life long eczema totally cleared after I stopped ingesting milk products. Try it!

Hi all.

I have been suffering from eczema and allergies my entire life...from the day I was born. Unfortunately, my dad's religion did not think highly of doctors, and I went through my entire childhood and teen life (and beyond), just suffering, trying different possible home and OTC remedies. I had severe flareups, especially on my hands, that were debilitating at times, not to mention embarassing.

I have come to the realization that eczema is not just external, of course. It has everything to do with what you are putting in your body, stress levels, etc. Therefore, you HAVE to know what sensitivities your body has.

I would highly recommend going to an allergist and getting a huge battery of testing and blood work to find out what you are sensitive to. Then work from there.

There are so many good home remedies and ideas out there, but if your body is allergic or even just sensitive to part of the remedy, it's just not going to work or maybe even make things worse.

First learn more about your body, then start avoiding the foods and other elements that your body seems to reject.

I also agree with the idea of a detox, but I think you first need to know what your body is sensitive to, because what if part of the detox ritual contains an ingredient that you are allergic to?

It's such a tedious and difficult process, I know, and I feel for all of you out there who are going through this.

Good luck to all.

I have had eczema since I was six years old, I am now thirteen. As you can imagine it's very difficult being a teen, and having this uncurable disease, I have it all over my legs l, upper arm, back and hips. I can't wear shorts or bikini's. When I went to my dermatologist a week ago, he prescribed me prednezone. And gave it to me as a shot. I have not felt itchy when I woke up the next morning! I still have some cuts but they are healing very nicely. I still have many scars, and I but mederma on them at night and in the morning. Please try this and ask your doc. About this.

Drink plenty of distilled or bioled water. Add a slice of lemon in your glass or just squeeze some in.
If you cannot get distilled water put a glass of it out in the sun for over four hours.

Sleep in a room with no light and keep your cell phones and electronics well away.(Its best to use your room only for sleeping/sex etc, put your pc in another room. you want to switch your mind off from the world, a text message going off every 30minutes doesnt work). Get into a good pattern, go to bed before 10pm every night. 9+ hours of sleep is prime for eczema sufferers.

Apply moisterizer after baths, showers and whenever your skin is dry. I use fatty cream and melagel. When my eczema is really bad, steriod creams go on- but they are my last resort.(IMPORTANT:too much of steroid creams and you can end up getting asthma like i did, when i stopped useing the creams, asthma went away).

Face masks for eczema: organic manuka honey is a real beauty. Apple cider vinegar- google braggs acv. Read the book its well worth it. Lemon, sugar and water.
If you have acne you'll find it will also dissapear! :)

Eat your veggies and fruit. Organic is best. Try ovoid acidic foods, pinnaple tommotoes etc.

Find your triggers, is it your washing powder- try sensitive products, what you use in the shower. go natural products with no bad chemicals added-avoid fragrance in your products at all costs! Dairy and weat are too common!(If its dairy dont switch to soy, thats bad for you)

Go to Dr Mercola's site right now, or write it down. He has a load of interesting stuff that will help you.

I take Evening primrose oil, organic flaxseed oil, krill oil(when it arrives), probiotics, magnessium and vitb6 some times, at least 2 Green teas a day. And zinc because here in New Zealand our soil is zinc depleated. My Derm said only use Dove products and i found a huge improvment compared to the shit i was using.

Sweating is supposed to be really good because it gets all the toxins out of you. unfortunatly i cant do it i start to itch and it makes my eczeama worse. Try a sauna i havn't done this yet! On this note: excersise once a day, even if its a 15 minute walk. Get your heart beating and oxegen flowing!

Sun light: try to get 10+minutes of sun a day(but dont sunburn). if you cant and stay inside like me most days, try a vitamin D Supplement.

Salt water can make eczema better for some and crap for others, go to the beach its good to relax anyway. For me it made mine worse, and i had to run back to my hostel and put fatty cream on because it made my skin so dry!

Maybe get a humidifier, moisten the air. I have heard 35 to 60% for dry skin... Something to look into.

Stop itching!! I use pinetarsol to stop myself itching, its great! google it. The old oat meal grinded up bath also can do the trick.

Dont get stressed, think possitive. Keep away from smokers or people who are negative.

google this please i beg you:
ease that itch dr mercola

sorry for my spelling, smile and have a good day, lets keep our eczema at bay.

I had eczema all throughout my childhood. I had it behind my ears, my eyes, and in my nose. It was oozing and itchy and I had an unfortuate childhood.Anyways my step mom got me Destitin Diaper ointment for behind my ears((they used to crack and ache. For my eyes ( they would be like glued shut in the mornings and i would lose eyelashes) she got me the Polysporin optimatical ointment. I used the creams from the doctors the never worked. I used these two and it went away. More proof? A woman came in to my work with cracked red hands i suggested it to her and she came in a few days later saying it worked.TRY it! Ps its messy

Baking soda bath!
My 11 month old daughter had the chicken pox and we gave her baking soda baths. Approx 1/4 cup in baby bath. After a few baths, I noticed her eczema was clearing up. I spoke to her pediatrician and she confirmed that there have been preliminary testing that suggest that baking soda may help with eczema. It can't hurt to try, it's cheap and readily available in most homes. Good luck.

I am 35 years old and a long time sufferer of the most severe eczema possible. The eczema is on over 90% of my body with highest levels of inflammation. I recently found a treatment that provides a almost 100% recovery from eczema. I take DORYX( anti-biotic) which is a delayed time release pill that is designed to remove certain bacterias that causes inflammation on the skin. The bad news is DORYX at this moment is costing $1000 for 60 tablets. The good news is that there is a Generic brand ( Doxycycline Hyclate) which cost significantly less, I found one sight that sells the generic brand 20 tablets 100 mg for $13.99. Not sure how effective the generic brand is but it's definetely worth a shot. I take DORYX 150 mg for 7-9 days , 1 for each day and that's all you need.Once you are done with the 9 days, Stop using the DORYX. Eat a very minimal snack when taking DORYX, you don't want food to interfare with the absorption of the DORYX. The DORYX attacks the inflammation from the 'inside of the body' which is the most important part in the success of this treatment. Then I use Triamcinolone acetonide ointment with Aquafor healing lotion. The triamcinolone acetonide is attacking the eczema from the outside and the Aquafor 'healing ointment/ shielding lotion' is locking the triamcinolone medication in and shielding your skin from external pollutants that effect the healing of that area. You can use the Aquafor as many times as want all over your body, the more you use it, the faster your skin will heal. This method is extremely effective. I first apply a wetter lotion( any good lotion ) and then apply the Aquafor to lock that lotion into my skin. Your skin will be forced to hydrate and become healthy. The eczema being attacked from inside and outside is forced out and a newer, stronger skin recovers over that area very rapidly. Do those steps and I Guranteed a almost 100% recovery from eczema. You'll be extremely shocked how effective this works. Within 1 day you'll see dramatic results. Using the generic brand of DORYX (Doxycycline Hyclate) will be around $14 and the Aquafor at ( Walmart) is around $14 maybe the generic brand can even be cheaper. Add a lotion maybe $10. Total cost maybe around $38.The DORYX can last years, the Aquafor can last years. It's definetely worth it. This method was recommended to me by a 'BRILLIANT' dermatologist.

Hi all,
Thanks for all the useful suggestions.

I first got eczema when I was 18 and it lasted a few months. I only get occasional small and manageable flare ups now but recently had a bigger flare up on my arm and stomach (I think it was a reaction to a change in washing powder).

I did 3 things that made the itch go away and the flare up go after about a week:

1. I made a paste with the following natural ingredients which I applied regularly (not all the ingredients are easy to get hold of so do your own version):
Juice of an aloe vera leaf from a plant
Neem oil
Coconut cream
Piece of a Papaya
Almond oil
Manuka Honey

Mash them all together into a paste and put in a sealed container in the fridge and apply regularly to moisten the affected area.

2. I added the following to a warm bath:
Sage leaves
Sea salt
Rosemary leaves
Aloe vera leaves from a plant
Clay powder

Helps moisturise and feels like a treat!

3. Replaced cow and soya milk with hemp, almond, quinoa or oat milk and made a drink from the Indian herb and fruit paste; chywanaprash (supposed to aide the immune system)

All that said: I cannot recommend enough that you try and get an aloe vera plant! If you can get hold of one they are hardy and resistant and grow more of themselves and so you could have an endless supply!

Tip: I always water mine with either boiled water or rain water for less impurities.

Hope that helps and good luck!

I have suffered from an extreme case of eczema since I was born. It comes and goes but basically remains constant. I have literally tried everything from oatmeal baths the every 'cortisone' possible. I have also been put on oral steroids such as prednisone and a few others, those do the trick and it also made me feel like I could be myself for at least a week or two but it always comes back and usually with vengeance. I really do believe that eczema is related to these things
1. Your stress levels
2. What you eat/ put into your body

I have many food allergies and I know that what I eat directly affects my skin. Dairy, wheat, fruit...etc
I promise anyone who suffers from eczema the way I do, just try cutting a few things out of your diet for at least 3 weeks, I bet you will see a chance. Eczema is INCURABLE! I feel for all those that have to suffer with this stupid disease the way I do!

My best friend's daughter had to deal with eczema. After spending tons of money with doctors and creams, my grandmother recommended that she give her daughter oatmeal baths (stops itchness) and mix almond oil with castor or mineral oil. Being that its a heavy oil for her dry skin and doesn't have the fragrance/perfume dyes that lotions have.

I had a horrible Staph Infection for two years which caused so much trauma to my skin that I have developed Eczema. I had a horrible flare up and was desperate and was getting depressed. My skin looked infected, red and blistered. The blisters would ooze clear fluids and it would stick to my clothes. It was so itchy that I couldnt even sleep at night.

My doctor put me on oral steroids which wiped it out and prescribed Fluocinonide Cream. It was really bad and was all over my legs, arms, buttocks and torso. I was prescribed Moisturel lotion with Kenalog in it. All that gave me temporary relief but nothing that would really keep my Eczema under control. And the steroids actually made my skin more sensitive. The smallest scratch would break the skin open. And that wasnt any good for me since I was always terrified that the wounds would get infected with Staph again.

So I did a little research and came up with something that helps me keep my skin under control.

- Keep your skin well moisturized. It will itch less. Ive tried so many lotions and creams. Avoid anything that contains fragnance. I always have Eucerin Intensive Repair lotion on hand. Its a bit greasy and heavy and I only use it before bed. Throughout the day I use Moisturel which is a lot lighter.

- I take an Aveeno Oatmeal bath once a week. Usually before bed. Two pouches in bathwater and soak in it for 30 mins. I rub the contents of an additional pouch all over my breakouts if I have any. It really does soothe your skin. I rinse of with a quick shower and skip the lotion and massage extra virgin olive oil all over my body. Wear long sleeved cotton shirts and pants to lock in the moisture.

- I use Yes to Tomatoes shower gel in my everyday shower. It has 99.6% natural ingredients and contains Dead Sea water, Olive Oil, Aloe Vera, Jojoba Seed Oil, Green Tea extract, Sesamee Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Tomatoes, Rosemary, Niacin and Calendula Oil and a whole bunch of other good stuff. It is Paraben free and very moisturizing. If I dont have that on hand i use Eucerin Shower oil. It goes on as oil but turns into a rich lather.

- Vitamins overdose. I have discovered that a Multivitamin alone daily helps. I take a Multivitamin in addition to Vitamin C, Flaxseed oil, Vitamin B6 and B12, Vitamins C and E and Fish Oil Capsules. Since I was on antibiotics for months at a time, taking the strong Zyvox antibiotic i also take a Probiotic daily.

- And when I have Eczema rash, drying, cracking and peeling I use Balmex Daily Skin Protectant on the spots that are bad. It helped my son when he was little and was getting a rash under his chin. And it helped my skin when it was breaking out really bad.

- Avoid stress. I have noticed that my skin itches intensivly and I get rashes when Im under pressure or stressed. So I try to live a stress free life. Which is somewhat impossible but cutting out unecessary stress will help a lot.

This might seem like a lot to do but you will see improvements within about two weeks once you work this into your daily routine. I rather do all this than be miserable with itchy skin.

I will try a bleach bath since that would probably kill any staph lingering on my skin as well. And lemon. I have yet to start a food journal to see if maybe certain foods make me flare up. I hope this helps someone because i know how bothersome Eczema can be.

I've had varying degrees of eczema on my fingers, back of my hands, and knuckles for some time.
It disapeared on one hand after I broke the hand and had it in a cast for two months.
I couldn't scratch the itch, and that seems to have done the trick.
But I still had it on my other hand, and really wasn't interested in breaking it to cure the ecxema.
So I scratched, and watched it get worse then better then worse, in a never ending cycle.
The steroids from the doctor helped marginally.
Recently, I noticed that the ecxema was diminshed significantly, for no apparant reason.
So I examined recent changes in my life, and lo and behold, the only thing of note is that I recently began to eat yogurt once a day, not as a cure for anything, but just because it seemed like relatively healthy snack.
I never thought of putting the two together until I cxame across an article suggesting that yogurt might be a beneficial treatment for ecxema.
I'm going to stick with the daily yogut from now on.

Guys, I had HORRIBLE eczema, as in, my skin was cracked and burned every time I showered and was oozing, now it's completely gone! *knocks on wood*

Here's what I did:
1) I changed my soap to a hypoallergenic soap (sometimes fragrances can worsen eczema) and I showered with lukewarm (not very hot) water
2) I used CALENDULA SALVE and would rub it on affected areas after showering and whenever the area got dry again. I found calendula salve at my local health food store, but I think if you look carefully, you can find it at a pharmacy or grocery store! I was lucky enough to find one with not only calendula, but it also had olive oil, beeswax, vitamin E, and essential oil of lavendar.
3) Within only a few days, and me continuing these steps, it was gone! Also, I felt instant relief from the horrible itching and discomfort... I definitely say this is worth a try!

*Random side note* before using the calendula salve in the beginning, I put a 'natural astringent' on the areas oozing. The astringent I bought contains Witch Hazel, Apple Cider Vinegar, Lemon Balm, Chamomile, Rose Petals, Calendula, Rosemary, and Sage. It stung pretty bad the first time I used it, but the area was so badly infected, I needed to put something on it to help clean it.

Okay, so I had severe Eczema on my fingers about a year ago, to the point where i could barely use my hands. I know how horrible it can be. I had a combination of dry and wet exzema.
This was the best remedy I ever tried:
The best one I've tried (possibly the simplest) is clover honey (standard honey). Wash and dry your hands (or body part of the affected area), and apply honey. Rub it into your skin, and it will start soaking in. Once much of it is soaked in, apply more honey and rub it in more and repeat. Do this for about ten minutes, depending on the severity of your eczema (mine was horrible). Rinse the honey off with clean, cold water. And don't worry, they wont be sticky once rinsed.

Once your hands are dry, apply lots of an unscented moisturizing lotion. Do the same type of treatment you did with the honey, but only for about half the time. Rinse off the excess with cold water.

last step, rub in a small amount of a healing cream onto the affected area. I use an Acitonide and Triamcinalone USB cream (sp?) prescribed to me by my doctor. Over the counter Cortisone cream also works pretty well.

I swear guys, this will work wonders. You can do this every day, or just when the skin is drier than usual. My hands went from being callused and painful to being baby soft in a matter of minutes. And heres a good tip: try to find a honey with crystalized sugar in it. This usually occurs in older or more natural honeys. The sugar will work great as a scrub. The best part??? You can actually scratch the itch! As long as it's with the honey sugar, it's actually better for it, as long as you don't over do it. This can lead to pained, raw skin. The feeling of finally being able to scratch the itch is wonderful though.

Another thing that works is applying a rosemary oil to the affected area three times daily... This just doesn't work as well as the Honey trick!

The best of wishes to you guys and Good Luck!

Sincerely,
Kimberly

I am an excema sufferer (for 33 yrs) and have tried many products, creams and concoctions given by pharmasists and doctors. I recently on a whim discovered a good remedy/concocture which temporarily heals and aleviates the itchiness and swelling of excema skin. I dab with a sponge on the affected area a little caladyl/calamine 'lotion' which u can get for no more than R9.00 at ur pharmacy followed by patting on a a generous amount of Bennets Baby Bum Cream on the affected area. The itchiness is minimized and after two or three applications for three days the affected area is almost fully healed - depends on how bad the excema is. This is not a cure but sure does work. Try it! Trying will not hurt ;)

Hello, I have suffered from eczema since I was a kid. I am now 21 & I've never had a flare up since I probably was 15. The other day I had the worst flare up ever. All over my body. It has never been this bad ever. Literally everywhere I touched or scratched caused a flare up. I tried EVERYTHING from tea tree oil, calamine lotion (this only soothed the flare ups) lemon juice (stung really bad) grape seed oil mosturizer (this was very soothing it makes your skin feel great) but none of this actually worked. I was so frustrated. I decided to use coca butter, I am so serious this works. In one day it was almost gone. Every couple hours I would put this on. I even kept the coca butter by my side in the bed. & constantly put it on. I woke up it was gone. This is amazing I recommend this to everyone. You should try this if your suffer from eczema. It worked great for me. Be patient & see results. I had to share my story with you all. Thanks =) I hope this works for you.

I have had eczema since I was a kid. Recently got a huge outbreak on both palms. With these remedies it is clearing up! Used mud pack with sea salt to draw out toxins once a day, use cold ice packs for itching, wash with noxzema original cream 2-3 x's a day. Also used baby 'butt paste' for softening the skin, (then wipe off) 2 x a day plus using Crisco (the kind that comes in a brick) instead of lotion (lots all day!) to keep the skin from drying out. Had lots of redness, blistering, cuts, bleeding and flakiness. Now it is all receding in only 2-3 days! Can't believe it! Can also use antibiotic (Neosporin) on open skin with a stretchy band-aid. Works great overnight.

My two year old daughter has eczema so bad on her feet and legs, I have tried every cream and home remedy that I read. I tried the doctor creams and nothing worked. I was at a loss. Yesterday she got a hold of my Palmer's cocoa butter formula massage cream for stretch marks and put it on her feet. This morning I woke up and it is no longer cracked and bleeding, and the leathery texture is gone. So I put some more on her and a few hours later the redness is gone. It has never looked this good ever, and she has had eczema since she was 6 months. I never would have thought to use stretch mark cream on her. I am glad it is working and I hope that it will work for you too.

I found this website page last year when I was suffering for the 2nd year in a row with eczema. I tried so many remedies, and started using a cortizone cream (Cortizone 10) and it worked. BUT the next year it came back worse than before. As an RN I know that cortizone is NOT good for the skin over a long period of time. Well, what I didn't remember was that cortizone can thin your skin. Over time this causes even more damage to the tissues and they're more susceptible to injury/illness. So when my eczema returned, it was worse. Long story short, I promised that I would come back on this site when I found a cure that worked for me. I began using coconut oil. It was truly a miracle (and a natural one at that!). Instantly the itch was gone. Later that day the redness was diminishing, within 3 days it was almost completely gone! I wanted to cry I was so happy. After a week, you could barely even see any signs of a rash. Along with the coconut oil, I did take a turmeric supplement. I have NOT broken out in a rash since last year and if I do, I'm going right back to using coconut oil. A side benefit, coconut oil is excellent on toast; or coconut oil with sugar and cinnamon on toast is like a dessert :-) The tastiest brand and best brand I have used for my rashes (and a snack...weird in the same sentence, I know!) is the Nutiva brand. Our local herb shop sells it, but it is sold on Amazon.com. The turmeric I used was a store brand (500 mg.) one to two capsules/day. Turmeric and coconut oil both have wonderful uses for the health of your body. Google them and read all you can to help yourself or a loved one. Good luck and God bless!!

Please stop saying eczema is incurable. That is disempowering and ridiculous. I was born with it, had a very severe case of it for many many years, and as long as I stay away from certain foods (dairy, sugar, wheat, corn products, white potatoes, eggs) my skin stays beautiful. I eat some of the things I am allergic to now that my system has gotten stronger, but only in moderation. When I first discovered I had food allergies, I stayed away from the offending foods for 2-3 years, and added hot yoga (Bikram)to my wellness regime. If i eat any of the foods I'm allergic to, I don't have that food for another 3 days to give my body a chance to get rid of the allergens. As all eczema sufferers know, when you get a flare-up, it takes forever for it to clear, so it's best to not get a flare up. Learn what your body can tolerate and what it cannot. By all means, stay away from brewers yeast!!

Here is my personal Rx: Plenty of water - at least 16 oz with a bit of lime/lemon juice first thing in the morning for internal cleansing, and 2 quarts throughout the day, plenty of fish, fresh veggies and olive oil, fresh green vegetable juice every day, a positive, loving state of being (very important)hot yoga (started my healing process). People who have skin problems are sensitive and special, and have to be more mindful than others, and if you're willing to do the work, the results will be wonderful. Best to you all....

Try castor oil.
I have a weird type of eczema on my fingers and toes where the skin peels a bit. Not really painful or red or anything. But my doctor said it was a type of eczema you can get on your hands and soles of your feet. I get this eczema looking patch on my hairline. Red, itchy with flaky skin. I'm assuming eczema since my doc said thats what I have on my fingers.
I read about a cleanser that people use, which is to mix castor oil w/ extra virgin olive oil and use that to clean your face, and you use a hot wet cloth to get the oils off. Well, my red patch went away when I did it. Didn't make my face look any cleaner, but the redness left. The next day I used straight castor oil, rubbed it in and wiped it off. The patch is gone now.
The red patch comes and goes naturally. It could totally be a coincidence but if it works it's worth a try. I got it at walmart, small bottle under $3 near the rolaids.

i started getting eczema when i was 21 years old. up until then i had the most beautiful and literally baby-soft skin. i have been suffering for 3 years now and i feel like its consumed my life. ive used all the prescripted stuff, but am so reluctant to because i dont like using meds in general. using Aquafor on my hands makes them worse and causes blisters. However, i found it to work on my legs. after i shower i use LOTS of aquafor and rub in really well into my legs. after reading some comment im trying olive oil for my hands. i pray that it works!

I had always surmised that whatever was causing my eczema was something in me trying to get out or something I was lacking producing a symptom of something lacking. Well for me the latter was true. I saw something posted that said I should try washing my hands in Head & Shoulders shampoo because of the Zinc in it. Well I figured 'why wash my skin when I can take a Zinc supplement. Well that's what I did and after 3 weeks My hands started clearing up and seem to be maintaining rather nicely. 50mg of zinc per day and things going well

I had a gradual onset of nummular eczema on my legs. These are coin-shaped patches, often in older men (me). Years of steroid creams never did much for long. Finally I tried applying castor oil after showering. I rubbed it into every lesion, about a dozen. Then I wore a special throw-away pair of pants for the evening so no worries about ruining clothing, as the oil did not completely rub in. Kept it up for 4 months, every day. My wife was was dubious when at 3 months there seemed to be little improvement. But castor oil has unique properties and has been known in ancient times as 'Palma Christi', or the hand of God. My eczema is now completely gone! Persistence and consistency did the trick, and at minimal cost. I am so happy to be able to wear shorts again!

If I can help one mother out there to help her children with eczema this is it.
I have 2 children with atopic ezcema who have had 3 hospitalisation. Finally I have found relief my children sleep through at last and do not scratch anymore. Their skin is glowing and it is so simple.
1/2 cup White king in the bath at night
After they get out of bath moisturise and then cover them in zinc cream. It soothes the skin and acts as a barrier we are in week 2 they there eczema has disappeared and I had tried everything. Creams, antibiotics etc who would have thought it be this simple. It is not diet related.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! To all that have submitted remedies. My 15 year old daugther has been battling eczema since she was two. It finally got the best of her the other day as she was crying that she did not want to go to school because of the flair up around her lips and on her legs. I found this website and we are trying a few new things that seem to be working. The fresh lemon sugar scrub is making her lips look much smoother and healthier along with Burt's Bees lip balm. We are using sea salts in her bath and Bactrine topical, 1% hydrocortizone with CereVe on her legs. I am hoping to get them clear enough to start using apple cider vinegar and CereVe. She is now takng zinc and probiotic yogurt daily. Thank you again for all of your ideas. Looking forward to seeing my daughter happy and healthy again

I had eczema since i was little... and we had tried EVERYTHING! (creams, detox, we even went as far as wrapping my legs in saran wrap with vasoline when i went to bed!) NOTHING worked until i started using a tanning bed for my eighth grade graduation...

it went away within a matter of WEEKS and its been gone ever since.

I was reading a health magazine while waiting to go see my doctor, and read that in some extreme cases, they use Ultra-Violet light to treat eczema.

You have to keep the tanning up though, i go once or about three times a week, and if i havent gone in a while, like skipped a week or two, i can tell my legs will start to itch again.

Tanning also helps take care of Acne!:)

TRY IT! THIS WORKS!

Thank you to everyone who submitted their remedies! My 18 month old son has had eczema since he was a newborn. Currently it is only on his legs, behind the knees and badly around the ankles. It's worse during the winter when he doesn't get the sun exposure. Like many of you I have just struggled along. He saw an allergist and I have eliminated allergens but the exzema persists. The steroid cream his doctor gave him doesn't help much at all and I hate using such a thing anyway, just doesn't seem safe for the long term. After reading some of the remedies on here, I've tried a couple and what I have found that works well is the bleach bath. I use 1/4 C. bleach in his bathwater and have him sit with his legs all the way in it for about 10 min. Drain and refill the tub- not necessary unless it's a toddler who wants to play and splash around- and wash like normal. For lotions, I have found a wonderful one. Burt's Bees Baby Bee Buttermilk Lotion. It's hypoallergenic and one of the first ingredients is coconut oil. In a matter of days, his cracked, scabby oozy areas are almost completely healed. He is down to just a little bit of dry skin left where it was the worst. Also, to help soothe the itch until it heals, I use witch hazel on a cottonball 3 times a day. It doesn't burn and he stops scratching almost immediately. Thank you everyone who submitted remedies. It's such a relief to know that there are safe ways to deal with this. Hope this helps someone!

Just discovered a simple eczema remedy. Take a warm shower (not hot, it's bad for eczema) with AVEENO DAILY MOISTURIZING BODY WASH for dry skin, polish that off with AVEENO SKIN RELIEF SHOWER AND BATH OIL, and finish that up with AVEENO DAILY MOISTURIZING LOTION. Your skin will stay moist all night and all day. Repeat in the evening before bed-time again :) My eczema rush dried up in 2 days of using the above remedy. If your body doesn't do well with fragrance, Aveeno has the same products available fragrance-fee. Hope your skin feels better soon.

I am 23 years old, just started working in a hospital and it's been very dry lately.

My hands/wrists/arms became very red, splotchy and incredibly itchy.

Employee health thought it was contact dermatitis (WRONG) and their suggestions made it ten times worse.

I finally went to the dermatologist and was diagnosed with eczema! They gave me a prescrip for betamethasone (awesome!!!) and told me to lotion right after showering with Cetaphil CREAM not lotion (lotions have too much water in them). All my symptoms have pretty much disappeared in less than a week.

I stopped using the betamethasone and I noticed a little bit of redness coming back on my wrists :( I am hoping that constant lotioning will gradually make it go away without having to continue the prescription stuff.

I've had eczema for about 16 years now and I've tried everything under the sun. This includes steroid creams (over the counter and prescription), pokeseed oil, extra virgin olive oil, acupuncture, homeopathic detox, Mayan Magic cream, shea butter, oatmeal cream, and even Reiki and meditation. Nothing seemed to work and it was very disheartening and depressing.

However, I recently found out about Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)... OMG... this is the REAL DEAL!!! I mixed a 50/50 solution of ACV and regular tap water and dabbed it on the affected areas once in the morning and once before I went to bed. It stings for about 10 seconds and causes the eczema to get itchy for a minute. However, after that passes, the eczema is not itchy at all for the entire day and night.

It's been 2 days now and the eczema is almost entirely cleared up... I can't freaking believe it!!! I plan on doing this for at least another couple of days. I admit that I had serious doubts that something so simple could be so effective, but I'm way beyond happy with the results. I only wish I'd known about this many years ago; I'd have saved a lot of heartache and a lot of money.

Here's the website I found that told me about ACV and eczema:
www[dot]earthclinic[dot]com/CURES/eczema.html

I truly hope this helps you too because I understand the anguish you're going through. Good luck and God bless!

If you have any questions about how this worked for me, I'd be happy to answer. yooner71@gmail[dot]com

What helped me cure my eczema was:
1. use less lotion (chemicals in non-organic lotion can be very drying)
2. use cool water to wash hands with.
3. Peel a banana and rub the peel onto your skin. Wait 10 minutes then rinse in warm water (no soap.)
4. Use less soap on your hands.
5. Drink a lot of water.

Apply Noxzema to the infected area twice a day. After 6 tubes of prescription cream failed to do the trick, I gave up and decided to just let my excema run its course. Then a month later, I read an article about Noxzema and decided to try it. I could see a difference overnight. It helped with the discoloration that can sometimes left by eczema. Keep using it until it eczema is gone. Mine was completely gone within 2 weeks!

Working as a nurse, I'm in alot of stress. This was first exacerbated by working for Dr.'s offices, as time flies it progressed to different parts of my body elbo, neck, knees, underarm etc. it got worse while doing night shift.Clobetasol for 3 years but later read about the side effects of possible skin cancer. cortizones are very bad when used long term, also thins out the skin.
i read this website in one night: this problm should be addressed systemically: by diet, exercise, supplimentation in combination with topical ointments and emollients or lotions.
the Chinese dr said to me: stay away from fish, red meat and crab and shrimp, he suggested to use mint oils (white flower which has a high dose of mint+ camphor and salisylate) + aveeno lotion to sooth the inflammation that causes the overproduction of dermal tissue causing flakes and plaques of skin.I alternate this remedy with cortizone (8$ a tube)+ aspercream (5$)since im out of clobetasol( 600$ bottle but if you have good insurance only 60$)
my other dr. friend said to eat antiinflammatary foods :this i got look up. he suggested: fish oil, mint teas, fruit, veges, along with eating mostly organic foods
he said to stay away from foods that cause inflammation: tomatoes, peppers and hot foods, anything red
my other nurse friend said she remembers that in nursing school we learned to stay away from eggs; i still have to look this up.
then when doing research: Psoriasis is Pruritis: 'painful itching', the more you itch the more the cells with develop under the skin, so i think if i can releave the pain i can atleast releave the itch, Iam currently using cortizone and Althletic aspercream and applying them mixed to all my areas twice daily. this really helps relieve the painful itch. its important not to scratch and when before applying fresh dose you must cleanse or exfoliate (with clean rough rag)the old cream off with dove soap and rinse well with cold water. after i figure out what exaclty and how exactly i will modify my diet, i will keep you posted. if inflammation is so severe apply ice cubes, so far my diet will consist mostly of vegetables, water, tea, chicken and pork, eggs(i plan on keeping this anyway for now and maybe take it off later)& flax seed oil eliminating all together: coffee, sugar (this will be hard) dairy (this too) and only drinking organic milk or soymilk, wheat, chocolate and shrimp and crab. i plan on adding each of these items one by one each month to see if i can handle consuming them along with my set diet.
this is alot but most of this info is obtained by what i got from this website, my medical friends and research.
i am gravitating to the idea of using Vit D, fish oils, cod liver oil, probiotics, zinc, b-12 vitamins: then i will do the Sea salt and add it to my lotions as well as bath soaks for 30 minute each night.good luck everyone...m LPN

I got the best present the internet could ever give for free! Thank you to everyone who has posted a remedy for eczema on this site. I did suffer from eczema as a baby, but never saw any traces of it on my skin. However, this problem revisited in 2008 at age 40, when I started drinking Soy Silk consistently and I didn't even suspect it. I absolutely love it - One mug in the morning and one at night all year round. If I am working late into the night, I could easily consume 4 cups a day! Someone on this site recommended to stop soy products - that was my light bulb moment. Everyone in my family still consumes Soy Silk, but it is not good for me. I discovered this site a day before Thanksgiving 2010. I stopped taking Soy Silk immediately and within 24 hours, I noticed no flare ups and there has been none ever since. I have been able to get back to eating nuts of all kinds, shrimps, chocolate, red meat and living a normal life - I am so happy like some with a pot of gold. I have been wasting money on oral steriods - each 15 day treatment gave relief that lasted six months each time. My family was worried about the effects of steriods my liver and kidney; I had seperate creams for my neck, something stronger for my hands, nipples, thighs, back, stomach, legs, arms; had Demasmooth ointment and colbetasol tropical solution 0.05% for my scalp (all this costed approximately $480); I was worried about the shame of eczema- my right hand was completely covered and my left was progressively getting worse - it is the first thing you see when I am in the office. Though I wrote down 15 things I could possibly try from this website, I decided to try the simplest - I took a daily shower with non-scented soap which I have been using for two years, applied Eucerin Intensive Repair Lotion, applied fresh lemon juice and left it on for about one hour. Followed by Extra Virgin Olive Oil from the kitchen. I feel so confident now that I know the root cause. Please work on finding your root cause and refrain from using bleach on your skin, as your skin is very delicate. Once again, thank you.

My name is Sarah, i'm twenty one. I ended up getting Eczema on my elbows, I spent an hour on this website, and finally found a solution to my problem.. Honestly, I went to grocery store and bought Apple Cider Vinegar, Probiotic Yogurt(called Activia),KOYA Aloe sugar free with Real Aloe Vera Pieces, non-scented dove soap, and a brick of Crisco all-vegatable shortening. When I got home I poured the Apple Cider Vinegar into a bowl, dipped one elbow in and let it soak for five minutes, then my other elbow. They both stung for about ten minutes, then the Apple Cider Vinegar dried up. Then i waited for an hour and rubbed Crisco oil on my elbows. Then directly after that I ate two yogurts and drank my Aloe sugar free(1.5 litre, which i finished the same day I bought it). Couple hours later, used the Apple Cider Vinegar and Crisco oil and ate two more yogurts. After I came home from work that night, I repeated the Apple Cider Vinegar and Crisco Oil before I went to bed but didn't eat no yogurt. The very next day, my Eczema felt much better and was starting to dissapear right way!! I did the Apple Cider Vinegar and Criso Oil twice and ate one more yogurt and then jus left my elbows alone, didn't stress over it.. The next day , it was almost gone, can barely see it, it disappeared!. Wow I was so happy lol Thank god for this website! I was going to go to the doctor and get the prescripted medication for it but I didnt have no health card... Honestly, I work at a strip club, I depend on my looks to make me money, thank god This website exist... Apple Cider Vinegar is actually really good stuff, look it up on google, really!

Tons of Vaseline (no off brands here) and be super careful when shaving inside and around the raised welps or risk bleeding awhile. Ironically, when the skin is slathered with the thick grease, it doesn't itch and, even if it did, you couldn't get to it (lol) Good luck and let's hope it works on mine as well.

My daughter has severe Eczema flare ups behind her knees and inside her elbows. Don't spend buko bucks buying Aveeno oatmeal bath, all it is if ground up oatmeal. Run a pkg of oatmeal through your blender or food procesor until it is a fine powder & you've got the same thing for much cheeper.
For 'Spot treatment' on the areas that are really bad (blistered or bleeding) I take a piece of plastic wrap & coat it with A&D ointment & cortizone ointment and then stick it to the rash, wrap with an ace bandage & leave it over night...Usually clears up by morning.
Hope this helps

I suffer from severe eczema ever since I was 3. I always keep it under control by avoiding the sun and heat. It's bad that I live in Asia. But for most of my teenage years, I coped with it really well, until I moved to Chicago. My conditioned got worse, I started to develop huge red patches that's bumpy, dry, flaky etc. And that haven't happened to me in years!!

And I noticed how fast it went away in 2 weeks when I returned to Singapore. I suspected it was the water.

I installed a water purifier in chicago and it became clear to me that it was the hard water in US that caused the flare up. And everything became normal until I was in NYC for the summer. It came back and much worst, my skin looked like it was burned and again, the water is the culprit. New York has really soft water but the chlorine content in it is really high. So I got a shower filter and everything went away.

After all the trial and error, I am very sure that water is the main culprit! please please please, do yourself a huge favor by getting a shower filter or purifier. it doesn't cost a lot and you will definitely see the huge improvement. Only pure water!! i know it's a hassle for me as I travel a lot and I always carry my shower head filter with me. But I need that.

I've had eczema all my life and it always comes back. I have several food and skin allergies so, I don't use anything with fruit or nuts. Vinegar, Noxema, vaseline, and alcohol also dry out my skin. Hot oatmeal baths help as long as you're consistent and oatmeal or nutmeg mixed with honey and applied directly until itching stops works, also. Afterward, apply Eucerin, Aveeno, or Gold bond (white and gold bottle only) Remember to drink lots of water, take B vitamins with vitamin E oil daily, keep infected area clean (use dove or other unscented soaps), and stay away from hairy pets, lint, dust, and pollen. If you can stop yourself from scratching, try to be aware of that while you're sleeping, too.

The problem comes from inside the body. You can apply topicals to soothe it and dry it up, but you need to get at the root cause. Yeast has been mentioned and eating yogurt. Why this helps is that it starts with the intestinal walls and the bacterial and tight cellular barriers that prevent alien proteins from leaking out of the gut. Yogurt helps restore that but take a potent probiotic capsule or tablet also. Yogurt does not have enough to restore good bacteria. Also try, and research by Googling, the problems gluten allergies and intolerances cause for the skin. Eczema is one of them. I have given up most grains, sometimes use gluten free products. But some gluten free products are overrefined, empty carbs and you do not need them. The body has a limited ability to process carbs before it eventually stores them as fat. Too many starchy carbs (which are just sugar when the body processes them) also help yeast overgrowth which another poster mentioned. I did this and have gotten rid of most of my widespread eczema. Just a tiny patch next to my right eyebrow now.

I have a lot to be thankful for especially this site. My son just turned 1 year old last week. The past eight months have been very difficult for Mom and me especially for our son Santiago. We also have had to deal with blood stained clothes from him scratching at night and continually watching that he doesn't scratch his face. We have purchased many products for Eczema on line and none really helped. One Product completely cleared his face for 1 week then it was back again. We began to think about his diet because he is now 1 and we have started to feed him regular food and take him off of the bottle. We noticed that his face was getting better since we stopped feeding him bananas and peas baby food. We wanted to try to limit his diet so he wouldn't become overweight because he is a big boy 9lbs.11oz at birth and to see if there was some significant changes in his skin condition. It's been 1 week and his face is as clear as a blue sky on a sunny day. We have an appointment with a dermotalogist his week that we will keep and see if we can pinpoint all of his allergies. After 8 months we are discovering that his condition is caused by allergies not eczema, and his grandfather was allergic to many things as a child. I asked grampa why he didn't say anything he replied that we didn't ask him and he didn't have Eczema as a child. We didn't ask because our Doctor said that it was Eczema and we accepted that. My Remedy is to share our story and to encourage you not to give up or eccept this condition. This is why I am really thankful to this website it helped us keep an open mind and not give up.

All of the folks who are recommending staying away from acidic foods are dead on! Cooked tomatoes and tomato sauces, citrus fruits, pineapple, dairy (lactic acid) are all foods to look out for. My newborn son had a hard time sleeping and had eczema on his scalp. I suspected the milk was at fault so I switched him to soy formula. After one bottle he sleep quietly and peacefully and the eczema went away quickly. I now drink very little citrus juice and I haven't had an outbreak in years. I've also found clobetasol propionate to be very effective against outbreaks (2 treatments and they're gone!). It's pretty cheap and a small tube lasts forever. (It's sold as different product names, Temovate, Dermovate...) An allergist also tested me and found out that I was very allergic to mold. My eczema was much worse when I was sleeping near a leaky water heater. An allergist should be able to determine your 'triggers' (although mine didn't detect the acids issue) and give you a prescription for the clobetasol. Good luck!

Hey everyone,
Iv had eczema for about 6 years now and I have found a couple of things that have worked. There is this soap that I got from this fair that actually seems to dry up the Eczema. Its called Tea tree and you can buy it online for about six bucks. But be sure to have some good moisterize because it does sting for the first couple of uses. I also use vagisil for the inching and that seems to work really well. I also use natural SHEA BUTTER, which i also got at this fair. It does help with the moisterizing but it is kind of sticky and greasy. But here is the websites for the soap. Hope it helps!
~blue heron soap

My 2 year old was just diagnosed with Eczema after about 2 long months of scratching herself raw(bleeding). The pediatrician recommended Aquafor (made by Eucerin) 2 times a day in the morning and in the evening. Also, she gave us a topical steroid cream to use at night before the Aquafor, and a prescription for a Hypoallergenic Hydrating Lotion named Hylira. Overnight I saw a huge improvement, and now within 2 days even better. The pediatrician said that I would only need to use the steroid cream during a breakout. I hope this is good info, because I know that this is a very frustrating battle to heal. Someone also recommended to bath my child at night, then get them out of the tub and while still damp cover them with vaseline. Take a pair of footed one piece pajamas, get them wet with warm water, ring them out as much as possible, then place them on my daughter. Then wrap her in a towel and put a movie on for her until the pajamas cool down. This is supposed to be good for helping the vaseline absorb into the body.

My son has had eczema since birth. He is 14 months old now. In the past two months I couldn't tell you how many times we have gone to the doctor. Don't ask about the money either. If you're on here, then you know. I would look at an old picture of my baby and start to cry. (it wasn't that bad then) I prayed and yes, it worked some but God only guides you, He doesn't do things for you. These are the best things that I've found that works: Bathing in EPSOM SALT-make sure that the salt dissolves completely before bathing, especially for a young one like mine.Something in the salt actually dries out your skin but in a good way. After bathing, rub CETAPHIL cream or VASALINE. The Cetaphil will only work for a little while depending on the severity, but keeping that Vasaline on it, locks in the mosture which is what you really want. The results from one day to the next, is like night and day. Cetaphil also makes a body cleanser that is very good. There are also some topical creams that are only available through RX: Desonide worked really well until allergy season kicked in.Its more like a lotion that you would apply a few times a day. The most recent we got has worked the best and is replacing the Desonide its called Triamcinolone Acetonide. Its more like a Vasaline consistancy which I prefer. Good luck to everyone.

I first messaged olive oil and rosemary to the areas each night and covered them with clean socks. In one day the itching was gone and the skin was no longer red, dry and scaly. In addition, I apply warm Himalayan salt and water compresses as needed (this stops the intense, painful itching too). I have added krill oil, probiotics and vitamin D orally to my regime.

I have struggled with eczema for the past 4 years on my hands. Its pretty minor now compared to how it was when I was a child (huge patches, head to toe). I have tried every prescription to make it go away! However, the only thing that I have found that actually works is the Jergens Skin Smoothing lotion. It stings a little if you have raw areas, but used routinely, it definetly helps clear it up.

The other lotions I have tried only take away the dryness, not the actual patch.

Try this! I hope it helps!

I have battled eczema for years. I have finally found a combination of things that work extremely well not only with outbreaks but with preventing them too.
Sea Salt!!!! I buy it in 20 lb bags online and I use 'Dead Sea' salt from Israel. I put about 1/4 cup in a sink of warm water at least once a day. My problem is usually confined to my hands and face. You could easily use this in a bath but increase the amount used. I follow that up with Aveeno Bath & Shower Oil then I rinse and apply my moisturizer. I only use Aveeno Oatmeal Soap for all washing all the time.

I hate to sound like an informercial but I've tried all kinds of lotions and oinments and remedies listed here and on a whim used an all-heal salve I bought to put on some bug bites. All-heal is right. When I put it on my eczema any pain went away immediately and the really bad spots became significantly less weepy. I've only used it for one day and I'm in love. It smells great, works wonders and has many other uses too (like I said, I bought it for bug bites). It's hand-made in Canada using all natural materials and even comes in a package made of recycled metal. I got it for $15 for a 100mL tin which may seem a little expensive but a little goes a long way.

Last but not least, the name of the actual product! It is called Green Wisdom All-Heal Salve and is made by Butterfly Weed Herbals and those in Toronto can find it in Grass Roots either in the Annex or on the Danforth.

My son has eczema on his cheeks, but it usually only flares up in the winter time. I took him to his pediatricain and he told me to try AQUAPHOR and to apply it as often as possible. After about 3 days it was gone. You can find it at your local drug store, like Walgreens, CVS, and even Walmart! It is very inexpensive and helps with the cracking and drying! I do have to say that it comes back every winter, but so far has stayed very minor. I know that there is no cure for exzema but however can be controlled!

Eczema treatment for elbows, knees, and skin patches that works really well is application of Crisco Oil. Yes, the cooking shortening. It is far better than many of the creams, lotions, and steroid based ointments out there.

It can be messy, but a set of cotton pajamas can take care of that problem. Treat at night, and a week later, resolution of symptoms is obvious.

We went to an allergy doc and she is allergic to eggs, peanuts and soy so we have eliminated those from her diet for 3 weeks now. we have been using CeraVe cream on her skin or Aveeno Baby Eczema Lotion and just started using Alba Un Petroleum on her really dry cracked areas and after 3 days it is getting much better. I apply those moisturizers as soon as she starts to get dry & itchy. We are going to try the prescription ointment Mimyx too. Not a steroid just an expensive type of barrier cream.

Okay, so developed eczema the winter before i turned 18. It slowly became worse, but once summer hit, it completely disappeared. It did not return until that October. Itching became horrible. Olive oil helped the itching, but the feeling was disgusting on my skin. A friend of my mom's suggested using Vasoline before showers on the affected areas because water increases dryness, and vasoline repels the water. It definately did its job. I went to the doctors, and they perscribed a 2.5% Hydrocorizone cream. He also suggested Lac-Hydrin Five. The combonation of the three worked wonders.I use the lotion and seroid twice a day, and it is almost completely gone after five days. I HIGHLY suggest Lac-Hydrin Five. It works wonders. A bit pricey, but well worth it! Good luck to anyone who suffers from Eczema. It's no fun. Hope this works!

I have noticed that my flare ups tend to happen when I am stressed out... I dont know if that is a common link for other people. I know that this is a basically uncurable condtion; you can really only treat the symptoms. Those hand gel sanitizers are horrible if you have it on your hands/wrists. Moisturize, and then do it again....

I have eczema on my back, between my fingers, the inside of my elbows, and my underarms...when I have flareups the itching is unbearable. I tried a lot of stuff before getting diagnosed, and while some of the remedies work, the relief never lasts. It's depressing to think I'll always have this...I have other health problems, but it's this one that drives me the most crazy!

I'm so happy I found this site, and I'm making a list of things I'm going to try until I hit on one (or a combination) that works for me.

I've often used Tea Tree oil for other things, but it never occurred to me to try it for eczema! Then on to salt scrubs, oatmeal baths, lemon, olive oil, Crisco, tumeric...all things I have on hand. I hope to be able to post a testimonial soon!

Thanks to all of you who cared enough to post your remedies.

I have eczema in my ears. No where else on my body, although I do have dry skin. I also have chronic eye dryness, which I wonder if it's all related, but that's another topic I'm sure. Anyway, after a particularly nasty secondary ear infection recently I was bound and determined to find something that healed my ears of the constant pain, burning, itching, and crusty weeping. I've been dealing with it for the past 10 years, and I thought I had to live with it. Pain is a funny motivator. My ear was swollen shut and the lymph nodes from under the ear down my neck to my shoulders were all swollen. The doctor prescribed antibiotics and oral steroids and a steroid creme. The oral steroids were magic. It took away the swelling, the pain and the itching! But quite soon after the last dose the itching returned as well as the crusty weeping. I knew the steroid creme would only be a short term maintenance solution. (I haven't even filled the scrip.) I want my ears to be healthy! Not just maintain the condition. I found an oil called miracell. See Miracell.com. I had a sample sitting in my bathroom for months, didn't know what it was!! I put it on my leg to try it out and immediately knew it was quality. I got online looking for more and kicked myself when I learned I could have put it in my ears! I got more and I've been putting it in my ears now for the past few days, 2 or 3 times a day. I'm in love. It's a combo of oils and contains myrrh which is an antibacterial. I highly recommend this stuff! They have an oil called Calm Ear. I compared the ingredients to their main oil, Skin Relief & Support. Its the same exact stuff, only the FDA requires they put a paraben in the Calm Ear, the other oil is paraben free. The Calm Ear is hard to track down, they ended up sending me samples of the Calm Ear, and I just bought the main oil at my local health food store, its the same stuff.
My ear infection was severe and I'm glad I went to the doc for that. I don't know if it's a remedy for an ear infection, but for the eczema it is absolutely helping and I hope that it will indeed help my skin help itself to return to complete health. I am also cutting out dairy and sugar in hopes to eliminate the root cause. Good luck to you.

I have had Eczema for 17 years, literally my entire life . I still battle Eczema on a daily basis, but for the younger kids who have it I would suggest bleach baths. I wish my mom would have done it for me when I was younger. It doesn't cure Eczema by any means but it will help tame a really bad break out. Use about a shot glass or a little more in a somewhat shallow bath and sit in the bath for 15-20 minutes. It sounds crazy buts its worth a try.

First of all, I would like to thank the people who wrote about using olive oil to stop the itching. It worked! I was with my baby and I didn't want to leave home, but I was 'dying' with pain. So I used Spanish olive oil and rubbed it all over the eczema--I really drenched it--at then the pain moved from a ten to a four. I then used it again fifteen minutes later. I also took two ibuprofins and then pain moved to a two. The next day I bought water which is called 'Real Water.' I bought it at Whole Foods. It helps balance the alkaline in your body. I also used an enema and cleared out my body--sorry to be gross. The next two days I made sure I ate a raw food diet. I felt a little weak but I noticed that my eczema was going away. Later that night I decided to 'fool myself' and sneak in a donut. Yep, you guessed it...I was a fool!! A few minutes later I was itching all over again. I know that there was a direct correlation between my sugar intake and my eczema. My body was not done clearing the toxins and then I decided to hurt myself and pollute it again! I tell everyone this: sugar, fatty foods, lack of good water and stress will bring back your eczema. Go on a raw food diet for two days and you will notice a difference. You may not have the donut dilemma that I did. But if you do have problems with eczema the raw diet, olive oil and ibuprofins worked for me and I hope they work for you. By the way, the eczema is not totally gone, but at least it does not hurt now and it just has that low level itch because it is now just dry skin.

Hi,

I am sharing our own story. Our son had eczema since his birth. We had so many terrible nights, him scratching all night and us watching helplessely. We tried everything from steroid to natural home made remedies to ayurveda remedies to homeopathy, But all in vain. But things changed when our washer broke down and we bought the top of the line LG washer that has 'Sanitizing wash cycle'. After using the new washer our son's eczema got better within days. And this is how we believe it worked

We were applying a lot of vaseline and aquaphor to his skin regularly as doctors reccomend.Even though we were using organic cotton clothes the vaseline was getting absorbed in the fiber of the cotton and had made a film inside the fabric. That would not only negate the purpose of using cotton but make it worse. it was breeding ground for bacteria. His clothes would feel sticky from inside even though they were looking clean. We tried boiling clothes in order to get rid of the vaseline but made no difference. But the new washer uses the sanitizing cycle and gets rid of it. It takes more than twice the time to run the cycle but the results are amazing.

For us it was nothing short of a miracle. I feel the pain of all the parents and the kids that are going through this terrible experience. But , please check if a simple change like this can make a difference in your case. I hope for the best for everyone.

Turmeric:
For five months I have been dealing with a small, but very uncomfortable eczema patch on my face. I followed the dermatologist treatment with steroid creams, and had some temporary relief, but then the itchiness would come shortly after I stopped the treatment. Aware of the anti-inflamatory properties of turmeric I started drinking a tea spoon of turmeric in warm soy milk every morning. The eczema receded shortly after. I can't guarantee that it was the turmeric that did it, but the timing makes it seem like it did. It may be worth to try it.

The answer to solving eczema is simple:
drink a lot of water: what is a lot of water: i'm a 175 lb male and must drink at least one gallon of fluids (water, being the best choice)per day.
That was the easy part.
DO NOT consume or limit drastically to any and all sugars (refined sugar is the worst, like the stuff you find in sodas and candy)with the exception of naturally producing sweeteners found in fruits.
results take about a week or so depending on your level of determination in getting rid of your eczema.

Lecithin can cure even the worst cases of eczema. Lecithin, made from soy, contains healthy levels of Choline (becomes acetylcholine after ingestion). The body uses acetylcholine to make healthy, MOIST, skin, and moist eyes. Scientists now say it may be a key ingredient in putting Alzheimers at bay; it's terrific for aging brain cells, when we tend to make less acetylcholine, and our diets are so full of nutrient wasting carbs/sugars. An acid, sugary diet actually creates and feeds eczema. Primitive peoples, those on primitive lean meat and native plant diets DO NOT GET ECZEMA....but Western Europeans/Americans do! Take 2 Tablespoons Lecithin granules two times per day; mixed in with fruit smoothy or whatever. Alternatively, there are capsules, here you would take a divided dose total of 1,000 - 2,000mg capsules per day until control is achieved, then reduce. Fishy breath may occur, and you can lower dose at this point. No other side effects.

I have been suffering from eczema since age of 30. The infected area was mainly the feet. After consulting physicians, I have been treated with steroid cream and some itching prevention pills. The syndrome was off very soon but it happened again. Besides, the infected area became secondarily infected and antibiotics treatment resulted. I seek for other alternative methods such as herbs but it took a long time and the effect was not obvious. Someone recommended acupuncture and heat treated but I¡¦m not eager to try. Finally, after I read through many relevant articles and searched over the internet, I try to control my diet (no suspected allergic food), drink a lot of water, keep skin moist by scent free aqueous cream at least three times daily, warm to cool bathing, complete rinsing of clothes to get rid of washing powder, limited soap cleaning of infected area to preserve oily layer on the skin, using humidifier in winter season, wear pure cotton clothes, change bed lining frequently etc. Now my skin condition is under controlled.

After much reading, I tried something new. I started avoiding all forms of hydrogenated oils in food. Today my eczema is completely gone. You can't even tell it was ever there. I firmly believe the Hydrogenated oils in food is what is causing a lot of health issues, including skin problems.

My 11 year old son has been struggling with eczema since birth. We've tried every OTC and prescription available. the dermatologist resorted to oral steroids to calm two recent horrible outbreaks. Within two days he was completely clear! Not wanting to have to continue that, she also recommended we try bleach baths followed by CeraVe cream and a topical cream called mometasone - but the thing that's worked the best has been the bleach baths! 1/2 bath tub of warm water, one cup regular bleach, soak for 5-10 minutes and you can rinse with soap and water afterwards if you like. Try this every other day for one week - I think you'll be amazed! Pat dry after bath and apply CeraVe cream (not a prescription-if not on shelf at store, pharmacist can order for you, about $20 for a large jar). I have not had to use the mometasone as long as I follow the every other day regime with the bath and the CeraVe cream. The cure has been AMAZING! He's so happy to not have to wear long sleeves to cover his red and often bloody arms and hands! Please give this a try!!! Can't believe I've never seen it posted anywhere before

okay, first off, eczema is an incurable skin disease. I have had it my entire life. It will never go away. You can only treat it by moisturizing with whatever you can find that works or by using a topical steroid. So all of you people that claim it 'went away' must have had something else. Aveeno lotions and oils are about the only things that work to treat the area. A thick layer of Vaseline will also do the trick if you do not mind a greasy feeling. No matter what you do..you will still see more flares.

I have had eczema for about 6 weeks, have tried alot of products and lotions, and have read alot about eczema. decided that I would treat the cause not the symptoms. I believe it is caused by an imbalance in your system, mostly bothers people in winter because of a lack of sunlight and fresh fruits and vegtables, also an imbalance of acids in your body. Decided to try probiotics and a good multi vitamin, I also am on a bland diet,no tomato sauce or orange juice which I love and probably have too much of in my diet. Limit acid food and drink. for the symptoms I am using cortizone 10 for eczema,4 timesdaily, followed by a moisturizing stick made for babies, would like to try bag balm. I also started using fragrence free soaps, lotions and laundry detergent, no dryer sheets. I have had a 90% improvement in 24 hours. i had my best night sleep last night, NO ITCHING. I recomend trying not to scratch, put cold pack on flare ups to numb it. I also have not used soap directly on affected area, just rinsed for a couple of days. Hope this helpful to someone, Good luck

For seborrhoeic eczema my doctor prescribed Elocon. It worked in the begining but over time lost its effectiveness. I tried Tea Tree Oil from a health store and found it cleared up my outbreak almost over night. Just apply to outbreak area a couple of times a day. The only down side is the smell. Not too pleasant but at this point anything is better then the itching and outbreaks.

For nine months, I have had eczema on my hands. My hands hurt, crack and itch so bad. So embarrassing! I went away this past weekend to the beach and realized after 3 days my hands were healing. I came home from beach and the next day they flared up again. I decided to drive back to the beach and get a gallon of the water and rubbed some on my hands last night before bed and this morning before leaving for work. My hands look so much better and not one crack or itch today. I have been staying away from creams, harsh soaps (buy castile soap) and lotions. PLUS, I stopped drinking tap water and started drinking bottled and Kangen water to help with the healing. Just wanted to pass this information forward hoping it will help someone else from this terrible condition...not convinced it's a disease. To sum it all up: Ocean water for eczema and clean water to drink; no tap, and wash hands with castile soap.

I have Atopic Dermatitis. I am in my teens and ive tryed a lot of stuff. If your kind of eczema is the kind where you wake up with stains you should buy a humidifier and put it close to your bed at night. It really does work. My eczema really doesnt allow me to do barely anything cause im allergic to the sun, grass, pollen, and dirt. It also limits what i eat. I cant eat peanuts, cows milk, eggs, dairy products, fish, shrimp, and lobster. My skin was super leathery and very cracked. But then I started using Prednizone and a humidifier. Thats when it started getting better. If that doesnt work or anything else ask your dermatoligist for ultra-violet light treatment. If you have something that actually works with out a prescription please tell me and comment.

The best thing I found for eczema ( And I have it worse than anyone i have ever met ) is Equate hydrocortisone plus, with 12 moisturizers and aloe. It took only about a week and the rash and blisters were almost completely gone. It is fairly inexpensive (about 5 dollars a tube) and it works great. I do warn you all though, dont stop using it until about 2 weeks after symtoms are gone or it will come back strong. Eczema it INCURABLE so you symtoms will come back again, but when it does simply start using again.

I was prescribed Mometasone Furoate Cream USP, 0.1 percent and Vanicream Moisturizing Skin Cream and they're the only things that work. Vaseline works just as well: 100% petrollium jelly, not nursery jelly because it has fragrance. Anything with fragrance, lanolin (sheep oil) or alcohol will irritate the skin. Aveno doesn't even work...i would go with an all natural oatmeal bath if you are into that kid of stuff.

There's a product called Calmoseptine Ointment (if you Google it, you'll find it), which is sold to hospitals for rashes, bed sores, itchy wounds, etc.

I have found it's pretty good for eczema relief. Not a cure, but gives a lot of relief.

It's a very thick pink cream, almost like the zinc lifesavers put on their noses (in fact, one of the active ingredients is Zinc). Unfortunately, it is something like oil paint, and can stain some clothing.

It has Zinc Oxide and Menthol, and a bunch of oils like lanoline. All the ingredients are fairly recognizable. Kind reminds me of an oily version of Caladryl, with a lot of menthol.

Also, with hydrocortisone cream, I find the best thing to do is put that on immediately at the first signs of a flare up -- but do it after you take a shower or bath. It absorbs better when skin is wet. I find that sometimes if I do that right at the beginning for a day or two, it will go away. Unfortunately, if it doesn't, you can't keep using hydrocortisone -- it thins the skin, and eventually will make it worse.

I have had eczema since I was a little kid, and have been dealing with it since. Here is what I feel is the real Story. Eczema is not cureable, although there are many steps and home remedies you can take to make it appear as if it has been.

The Process:

Your skins sensitivity can very even by location on your body and will react differently to different treatments depending upon what it is sensitive to. No matter what remedies you try, you must remain dilligent with it even after it appears to be gone. This is especially true with seasonal eczema. Test out different remedies to see which ones work.

The remedies that have worked for me:

Topocal steroids from your dermatologist; worked with limited sucess and never for very long.

Vinegar or Apple Cider Vinegar; works very well to reduce swelling and irritation, however dries the skin out. Reccomend using a very good mosturizing cream in conjunction(eucerin origanal is my reccomendation)
The idea hear is there are a lot of amino acids that help regenerate skin, also works well on age or liver spots.

Olive oil; again limited success and gets kind of expensive and its kind of messy, although very gentle on the skin.

Lemon or lime juice; Same idea here as the vinegar, the combination of amino acids and the anti inflamitory properties work well when used with a good mosturizer. Body butters can be a good alternative to the eucerin, but its still my recomendation.

Bleach; Beware of using bleach, it can work but very harmful to the skin itself. Not recomended on extremely sensitive areas aka the genitals.

FOR MASSIVE FLARE UPS!!! For emergency relief of massive flare ups, but also a good remedy for every day flare ups.
This is not exactly homeopathic but cortizone 1% and eucerin original mosturizer combined 50/50 works great.

Again, remember to always stay on top of it, constant application of mosturizers is a must.

Brown vinegar!!!! apply directly to infected area. ie.soak in tub for back area or saturate a clean cloth to apply. It stings a little (at first) but will soon subside. I have tried this for many years. My children developed eczema too and now they also do it. To keep from smelling like a pickle I f/u with a non-fragrance deep moisturizing cream (Eucerin or WalMart has a very brand)

I am cautiously optimistic. I've had eczema on my hand for several months now. The cortizone creams make it go away but then it comes back. I read these posts and last night soaked my crusty, painful hand in warm salt water for about 20 minutes, then covered it in vaseline. This morning I soaked it longer and massaged it. Eventually I started to molt! Yes, the hard cracked skin got so soft it gently rubbed off in the water from all my infected fingers. This never happened when I would soak it in the bath without the salt. All day I've been massaging it with Noxema and vaseline. I can bend my fingers now. The skin is soft, but still redish, but it's showing definite signs of healing. No itching at all.
It's less than 24 hours since the first salt bath. Can't wait to get home to do the next one.
Maybe maybe this'll work.

Drinking the 8 - 10 glasses of water a day has slowly improved my eczema. Definitely have upped my water intake at work. I try to drink 2 twenty ounce glasses during my shift (anywhere from 3 to 10 hours, and I may drink more if my shift is longer). To get started you can drink a bottle or the equivalent (16.9 oz) every morning when you first wake up. Lotions/cremes can help eczema on the outside, but drinking water can help it from the inside. We're always told to drink lots of water and it probably is a good way to get rid of your eczema!

Thank you to the person who suggested a link between yeast infection and eczema!!

I never had eczema until I hit puberty. And each eczema flare up coincided with a yeast infection hitting. The link just never hit me until 10 years later when I saw this forum.

So I went to the gynae, applied some powerful antifungal creams, took oral antifungals and amazingly all the red patches cleared. Sweet relief!

Of course, yeast infections as most ladies know is recurring(same goes for eczema flare ups). Hence, it's important to work out a diet to keep yeast at bay by avoiding foods like bread for
example.

Really hope this works for all sufferers! And thanks again the person who suggested this link!

I hate the thought that the topical steriods I have been using actually thins my skin. I found a herbal ointment that works really well to prevent flares from getting worse nd it kills the itch. It is caled Tiger Balm (google it to find it)it provides instant relief for me, it contains camphor, menthol & clove oil. works like acharm and it is cheap.

I started getting mild eczema at about 30-32 years age, and it lasted for few years. I am almosyt problem free now for about 2 years (I am 39 now)- ever since I accidently stumbled on olive oil for prevention. (as one day when I had a lot of itching, I could not find any other moisturizer around). Ever since I started using olive oil all over my body after my bath, I dont get any more rashes. But if I do try any other body lotion, I start getting eczema after about 7-15 days. Olive oil does not cure these rashes - I have to use steroid to cure - so the oil is only good for prevention. I use the cheapest lightest oil I can find (at Costco). For my face I use Cetaphil for prevention - that has worked for the past 7 years.

OATMEAL ECZEMA?! no, not oatmeal FOR eczema... my LO is super-sensitive to many things (can't even use pure aloe or safflower oil on her), but even so i was shocked to learn that she has a skin allergy to oatmeal, which is one of the main ingredients in the lotion we've been using on her. after discontinuing use of this product, her itching diminished significantly, and she showed marked improvement in the softness and clarity of her skin. i never would have guessed that oatmeal could be the culprit, but if it was for my baby maybe it could be for others too... God bless all of you who are dealing with this condition!!!!

This is the best combination I have tried so far. After I get home from work and in the morning before I get ready, I rub kiwi fruit on my eczema. Then at night before I go to bed I use Dermarest lotion. I have also gone tanning 2-3 times a week for about 7 minutes. After I put the kiwi on, it almost disappears. Sounds crazy, but I swear it works! Good luck to everyone and thanks to all who have posted their ideas.

I have had eczema off and on, and I have spent over a thousand dollars going to special doctors, buying medicines, and everything else.

What truly works is things you do at home.

First, you should drink a lot of homemade carrot juice. I have a juice maker, and it makes it much better.

Second, I know some people say citrus fruits are bad, but oranges helped too.

I also had massages, where you put cold milk on a paper towel, and put it on your face for 10-15 minutes.

Lastly, Cetaphil and Eucerlin work excellent, and are about 5-7 dollars.

All those work a lot, and now, I barely have any eczema anymore.

I had my first bout of what I can only believe was eczema after a stressful couple of months of digestive problems. My skin under and above my eyes (very delicate areas) was red, puffy, sore, itchy and peeling off by layers every morning. I tried all sorts of creams, changed make up and was unsuccessful until I came across a remedy from a book I had. It suggested putting on Evening Primrose (comes in capsules - you prick it with a pin). You apply it directly on the affected area and it you should see results with a few days. If you are treating a larger area, you can dilute it with olive oil. It worked like miracle. I also apply Almond Oil on top of it in a thin layer and this seems to keep it moist and suptle. I hope this helps, it was my savior.

My son is 7 and has had eczema his whole life. Last week it was so bad, he could hardly walk (he has it from top of theighs to below his knees). The other night after his oatmeal bath I put prescription hydrocortisone on him and he screamed for 1/2 hour from the stinging. Next a.m. I went to a wellness center that is geared toward holistic approach and bought an ointment called 'whole skin ointment' It only has 4 ingredients and is in a sesame oil base. By the next morning, his eczema was at least 50% imporved. I have been giving him an oatmeal bath everyday, and immediately following I apply the ointment. Since using this, I have been looking up the ingredients on line and found that sesame oil has great benefits for the skin. My son doesn't mind the feel of it (I used to chase hime out of the bath to coat his skin with aquafore, eucerin, etc. he hated to feel of them). This absorbs easily and doesn't feel sticky. The only downside was the price. I paid $39.00 for 1.8 oz of this ointment. I was going to get some sesame oil (cold-pressed-organic) from a whole foods store or similar and see if I get the same results. I have read that some people can be allergic to sesame or the polpolis in the ointment, but it seems to be working great for us and I just wanted to share. It has been a heartbreaking experience to watch my baby go through these outbreaks, he didn't sign up for basketball this winter because he didn't want to wear shorts and have people see his legs. It has only been 3 days, and his legs are almost totally clear (he has asked to play basketball now).

SERIOUSLY AMAZING.

Nothing worked for me until I found this.

DR DANS CORTIBALM

It's a lip balm with 1% hydrocortisone. I found that other creams don't hold in the moisture very well, resulting in flaking skin. I use it on the patches on my face. Might seem strange but it's amazing and you can even put foundation on over the top without it getting all dry!! I also use it on the spots on the inside of my elbows/knees etc when I'm going through an itchy phase!

Nothing else has worked for me so GIVE IT A GO.

I now put salt and halden's Emuls. Base (Made by ovelle ) in to her bath. Then I use Aveeno Skin Relief Shower Oil to moisture her skin after her bath.

Corn Huskers Lotion marketed as a heavy duty hand treatment has worked wonders for me. I slather it on and let it sit and soak in. I reapply a few times throughout the day, and after a few days I've noticed a big difference. I also apply Vitamin E cream in a thick layer after bathing. Drinking Green Tea is also a plus.
