1 inch or so fresh ginger root, sliced thin or grated
1/2 a fresh lemon, sliced (peel & all)
1 clove garlic, mashed
~2 c water
Very generous spoonful honey
Place water, ginger, lemon, & garlic in saucepan; bring to boil, then turn down heat and simmer gently for 20 min. Strain into mugs and add lots of honey. The tea *will* get stronger if you let it sit! Most invigorating!
The garlic adds a bit of bitterness, but the honey masks that. This tea is very soothing to the throat and warms and opens the chest and nasal passages. Plus there are all those vitamins and other good things! I now make this tea at the first sign of a cold, which helps me fight it off. I find it more effective than the commercial hot lemon remedies, and of course cheaper!

This sounds really stupid, but it actually works, and you don't even need anything for it. If you can't stop coughing, raise your arm up higher than your head. Just one--I don't know if two work or not. This has worked for everyone we have ever suggested it to!

Day time cough ONLY with no phlegm or stuff comes up the throat. Depends how often you cough make your own judgement. Get a medium size water melon and cut out white part between green skin and the red meat. Put it in cold water and bring to broil. Turn to med. heat cook for 1/2 hour, cool and drink. For serious day time cough a whole mater melon will cure, so what do you need? Do not use if you are coughing at night it will make it worse.

this is so soothing, but only while it lasts. Fill a mug up with water practically to the top and pop it in the microwave for 1 min 20 sec. Grab about a teaspoon or more of vicks vapor rub, and or cloves and mints and add it to the hot water. Wait about a minute, and sniff the mix of steamed water, vicks, mint, and clove. Deeply breath it in slowly through your nose or moutn. Works well.

I have a very effective, traditional, cure to coughing and sore throat.
I usually took one half of lime to be juiced, add 1 tea spoon of sweet soy bean sauce (you can find it in Chinese grocery shops). Mix the juice and the sauce and just drink it to the last drop. You will get instant remedy of your coughing and sore throat. I recommend to take the remedies 2 - 3 times a day.

I find that steaming yourself really helps to soothe mild-medium coughing (This is also a relief to nasal congestion, sinus-especially head congestion, chest congestion) If you don't know what steaming is-let me enlighten you.
To steam yourself (variations possible):
1.) Boil about 5 cups of water (more or less.)
2.) Grab a towel and a bowl.
3.) After water has boiled, (recommended doing the following in the kitchen) sit at a table and pour the water in the bowl.
5.) Quickly, letting very little heat escape, sit down and place the towel over your head and the bowl.
6.) Sit there for about 15-20 minutes breathing in through your mouth (if you have chest congestion/a cough) or in through your nose (if you have nasal congestion or head sinuses) This can be a bit boring, so i recommend listening to the television, music, or attempting to read (however it gets dark and steamy under there!)
***Tip***
Even though it is hot and may cause very mild discomfort to your eyes (I close mine. It's not as though I'm missing anything under there!) try to lean over as close to the bowl as possible. You will sweat, but you will feel your your chest aching less and opening up, your nose opening up/becoming runny, as well as your head aching less and opening up.
***Bonus***
The steam helps open up your pores! It is great to apply acne medicine after this as it does wonders to your skin!
As you can see I have found this as a relief to many ailments including the following:
-mild to medium coughing
-chest congestion
-nasal congestion
-sinus (especially head) congestion
(even opening up your pores!)
I hope it helps you as much as me! Although it is a pain in the butt, I find that it does work wonders!
Get better soon! :)))

DARK CHOCOLATE! About 2 ounces of dark chocolate contains 1000mg of Theobromine. Studies have indicated that theobromine is about 33% more effective than codeine. (1 ounce should be adequate for small children)
To make cough 'more productive' and sooth a sore throat:
Make some peppermint tea.
About 6-8 ounces of peppermint tea
Add about 3 tablespoons of honey,
2 tablespoons of lemon juice,
and JUST A PINCH of cayenne pepper.
(optional) a shot of liquor-- personally I like amaretto.
Stir all ingredients into the peppermint tea while it's still boiling hot.
Wait for mixture to cool enough for you personally to drink. Mixture tastes pretty good to- kind of spicy sweet.
Hope this helps you as much as it helps me!

Eat a piece of dark chocolate (the higher the cocoa content the better) whenever you start to cough as it helps stop mucus production. It works wonders but not to much at a time as it also gets the bowels moving!

All you do is make a good sized cup of tea (any tea works, but green is best). Then cut a lemon slice, and put that into your hot tea. Then also put about a teaspoon of honey (also put some extra sugar if the tea isn't pleasant eough to drink). Drink this several times a day and your cough should go away overnight.

Mix together lemon juice, honey and whiskey - take a tbsp or 2 and your cough will be relieved.
Also, mix together crushed peppermint hard candies and whiskey, let the candy pieces dissolve and take a few tsps. of the syrup mixture to relieve a cough.
