Anxiety and Panic Disorder Home Remedies:

My name is Jess. I am 13. I have been experiencing panic attacks for a year now, and while many of you have been dealing with it longer than I have, I have already reached my breaking point. Maybe it's because I've been a lifelong worrier; maybe it's because my father has it; maybe it's because I'm a type I diabetic. Nevertheless, when I first noticed my panic attacks, I thought I was dying. I spent the last weeks of my seventh grade year sleeping in my parent's bed, only getting out twice a day to eat, then back to bed. I didn't sleep much, though. The fear kept me wide awake. My parents decided to take me to see a therapist. We decided I have General Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and we worked together to see how we could fix it. My panic and anxiety seemed to lessen once the new school year started, until slowly it began to get worse. Every month there would be a period of time in which my anxiety and panic would become unbearable. I would breakdown, and, recently, into tears, wishing this was over. I had tried the techniques, the relaxing, the praying, the thinking positively, the home remedies. We are against using medication in fear of it having a negative effect on me. The breathing, praying, and thinking positively helped for awhile. But now, I have a new problem; school. I cannot last an hour in every classroom anymore without fear of going low or high (blood sugar, diabetic issues) or hyperventilating - I'd done it once before, I will do anything to avoid having it happen again. I have also noticed it only happens in my classrooms up stairs, and four out of seven of my classes happen to be on the second floor. This has been happening ever since last friday, when I had a major panic attack right in the middle of an exam - not because it was hard, simply because I feared I would die, the floor would cave in, or I would cause a scene by going low or hyperventilating. I have not made an entire school day since then. Yesterday, I made it to three. Today, five. Tomorrow, I hope I will make it through the day. Also, I have noticed that the feel of my panic and anxiety changes every few weeks. It's always different, it's as if there are stages. One stage will be bad, the next, decent, the next, good, then back to bad, and the cycle continues. I can only hope that this current stage will be over soon and that I can stop the cycle.
Enough about me, though!
Here are some things I have found to help me during my struggle.
- Taking 10-20 minutes out of your day to meditate and relax. Doing yoga, breathing, whatever it takes.
- When in a panic attack, think 'Alright. I have been through this before many times. I can and will do it again. Take your shot, panic!'. Don't forget to breath deeply into your stomach. Count if you must, 'In, 1 ... 2 ... 3 ... 4 ... Hold it ... Out, 1 ... 2 ... 3 ... 4 ... In, 1 ..' (and so on) Think of things that make you happy. For me, it's childhood memories of parks I used to go to, or hanging out with friends, or thinking of a favourite song, or my family. I've read from a newsletter I get from a site called Panic Away to count down from 20. Tell yourself, 'Okay, panic. If x is going to happen to me, it must happen within these next 20 seconds. This is your only chance!' And begin the count down. DO NOT COUNT DOWN FAST! Take your time! When you get down to five and below, tease it by saying '5.. 4 and a half.. four.. Come on now, time's almost up! 3 and three quarters, 3 and a half.. any time now!' etc., as this will boost your confidence by showing that even if you allow extra time, nothing will happen! Remember that a panic attack will never hurt you.
- Exercise. I know you've heart it everywhere, but it really does help! Not only that, but even talking a walk every day can help make you much happier.
- I cannot stress this enough. SLEEP. If you do not get enough sleep, your tiredness is GUARANTEED TO MAKE YOUR ANXIETY AND PANIC WORSE. Trust. Me. On. That.
- Talk to someone about what's going on. A friend, family, a doctor, your teacher, even! Talking about it never ceases to help me. Finding a friend who also deals with a form of panic or anxiety is even better.
- Eating better. Eliminate caffeine from your diet for a while and see the difference. I'm not just talking about your morning coffee, I mean all those sodas too. Regular, diet, decaff, I don't care. I won't even drink it. I do occasionally slip up and drink tea, but some nice warm herbal tea can really relax you and calm you down. Now, if you need that caffeine for energy, they have vitamins out there that work wonders. I've been taking B-12 for quit some time now, and really gives you an energy boost. More greens are helping me as well; I eat a salad every day with my lunch, and tend to feel a bit more calm afterwords.
I forgot to mention this, but there are some herbal, homeopathic tablets you can also take. I have tried Hyland's Calms Forte and Nerve Tonic, both are fantastic.
I really hope this helped! Remember, keep a positive mind, relax, breathe. You can and will make it. Never give up.

I am 14 and have had anxiety attacks since I was twelve years old. One thing I have done to help with these is to first try your best to avoid situations you know will cause stress. (Which is a duh) And if I am having one a nice cool cloth on my face and neck usually help. I like to put music on or turn on the t.v. Some kind of noise that isn't to loud and rough on the ears and is relaxing. These are a few things that have helped me and I hope help you.

Over the past year I have been having bad axiety/panic attacks. At first I thought I was having cardiovascular problems, or mental problems, sometimes thought I was going to die. Saw doctors and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with me-i was in perfect health. After doing my own research, all my symptoms matched up to having axiety/panic attacks. On the very web site I found home rememdies, because I did not want to go on perscription drugs. I started taking Niocinamide along with B6 and B12 viatims every day. I found excellent results in a matter of a few days and after about 2 or 3 weeks, I have been feeling great. I tried the cold shower thing too, doesnt work for me. I also find regular excercise works, and stay away from caffiene. I also drink socially, and I find if I have a couple too many, then next day I struggle a bit but the key is to stay occupied. stay away from hard spirits, I find they do a job on you if you do drink, stick with a couple of light beers if you are going to drink.I hope this helps, cause it has been a hard struggle for me for a while now, and was starting to effect my life, I know feel I'm my old self again. They say B viatims play an important role, so give it a try along with Niacinamide. I wish you luck.

I use scent to keep me relaxed. For me, smelling baby powder really works - crazy, but true. It forces my mind to remember a 'calmer' time, so to speak. Other scents might work too, but baby powder seems to be a calm memory for everyone. Try it - it might work for you while you're waiting the attack out.

My panic attacks started about 6 months ago, no doubt brought on by stress. These attacks cause me pretty severe physical symptoms just like all of you: very high blood pressure, sweaty palms, nervousness, chest pain, dizziness, etc. These are so crippling to me and my family and make it impossible to even leave the house at times. I decided to really try and get to the root of these attacks and man has it been a battle. The main thing therapy helped me realize is these attacks are brought on because of my thoughts about a certain situation. Sure things happen and they cause stress, but the attacks themselves are due to the thought about that situation. I have been able to overcome these panic attacks and have been doing wonderful. Therapy helped, but the work I did on my own has helped the most. Please try reading 'When Panic Attacks' and really put it to work. At first I was perscribed anti-depressants and tranquilizers, but I knew it was bandaiding the problem. That book has made a huge impact on my life. I also suggest getting a support group of family and friends. It is hard to go at this alone. I have changed so much to try and overcome this: diet, exercise, meditation. It has really brought me closer to myself, my family and God. Prayer is powerful and all things are possible with Christ!
When I am at my worst having a panick attack I read a magazine with articles that I am interested in. I love hunting so I usually grab a magazine about hunting, go to a queit room (which is hard having 4 daughters), shut the door, lie down and read until I am totally relaxed. Deep breaths and relaxing music works sometimes. I also pray A LOT! Hope this finds someone and helps!

I have experienced three severe panic attacks and lately several minor anxiety attacks. I have found a way to completely get calm myself down and eventually get rid of them. Every time i start to feel anxious, i let my body be aware of what it's feeling and tell myself, 'it's okay, it's normal to feel this way, i am not dying'. Let your body feel what it's feeling and the second you acknowledge that it's normal and okay to feel so, your heart rate calms down and so does your breathing. Don't be afraid of your body! You are in control! Always remind yourself of that. Talk to yourself if you have to.
Good Luck to everyone and i hope my remedy will work for at least one person. It is not easy but you have to take control of YOU!

There is a strong correlation between anxiety/panic disorder and low levels of certain vitamins and minerals. There are several things you can do to restore this balance in your body:
1. Take calcium, magnesium, and b-complex vitamin supplements
2. Avoid refined sugars and carbohydrates, and instead eat foods low in sugar and containing whole grains
3. Avoid coffee, tea, and cola sodas (or any other drinks with caffeine)
4. Avoid alcohol and drugs, as these tend to use up your bodies supply of important vitamins and minerals when your body metabolizes them

I use Magnesium supplements like I would valium. It has such a calming effect for me. Magnesium Glycinate capsules in divided doses have virtually cured my anxiety attacks. There is alot of info on the internet. Serum magnesium tests are not very accurate I found.

I was going to say I suffered from panic attacks but then I thought I actually didn't because the first time I had it was horrendous but then I wlearned to accept it. I was 17,I wasin the movies with my girllfriend. Suddenly I started sweating, my heart beating extremely fast and feeling like I had lost it. Soon after I saw a psychotherapist and I learned what it was. I felt better when I actually learned that I would not die from it or lose my mind from it. Slowly, with the help of my therapist, I learned to recognize it and just be aware of it. I learned to just welcome it when it came because all it was was basically bad energy leaving my body and it actually was a great thing that the bad energy was leaving my body. One more thing, my therapist told me, imagine you are trying to surf in the ocean. What do you do?Do you fight with the waves or just allow the waves to help you surf. You allow the waves to help you surf. So i allowed myself to actually exoerience the panic attack without judging. It doesn't mean that you are crazy or a bad person or whatever. The trick is to recognize it and surf it.

I had panic attacks intermittently from age 21 to 45. I have not had them for the last 10 years. My first panic attack was probably the most frightening thing I'd experienced. It lasted four hours. I was taken to ER and my pulse and blood pressure were dangerously high. I was given liquid Valium intravenously, which cured me instantly.
Now, however, I have my own regimen and they are as follows:
1. Whistle a tune. Whistling forces you to breathe normally and corrects the O2/CO2 imbalance. An imbalance of those gases will make feel disoriented and make your heart palpitate.
2. Sing a song. Singing does the same thing. It's also a pleasurable thing to do, along with whistling, which causes you to take your mind off the panic. Singing decreases the production of fear-generating neurotransmitters, such as norepinephrine.
3. Have someone rub your feet. Or for that matter, have them give you a full body massage. This also reduces the production of the fear-oriented peptides and takes your mind off the panic.
4. Learn to meditate. I'm not suggesting one take up a mystical practice. Proper meditating is all about breathing properly and thinking of nothing but your breathing. This helps you both in terms of correcting the possible O2/CO2 imbalance and to help you produce neurotransmitters associated with a sense of well-being, such as serotonin, and calm-inducing ones, such as endorphin.
5. Eat a few papaya enzymes. Take 4, 5, 10, or 12. Papaya enzymes are absolutely harmless in terms of side effects but highly effective in curing an upset stomach. Gas in your stomach – gastritis – can make you feel pressure into your chest. Papaya enzymes will in one minute eliminate the painful, gassy, bloated feeling in the abdomen and stomach that can make you think that there is something wrong with your heart.
6. Do as the main character from 'The Beautiful Mind' dealt with his schizophrenia by saying to himself 'Well, that's just my schizophrenia, so I'm going to ignore it'. One can do the same with panic and anxiety by saying 'Well, that's just my panic, so I'm going to choose to let it do its thing and I'm not going to let it bother me so much', or something to that effect. By saying this to oneself, he/she objectifies the fear, doom, and downward spiral of panic enough to cope with it and to not react to it in a feeding-back, out-of-control manner.
7. Exercise. Take up yoga, Tai-chi, Qi Quong, pilates, calisthenics, ken-po, kung-fu, aiki-do, gynnastics, stretching, trapeze, bicycling, swimming. Sweating out one's toxins makes you feel better in general AND you feel stronger. One produces more of the desirable neurotransmitters with exercise, as well.
8. Eat food that hasn't been denatured and adulterated. Who knows what all the hormones, antibiotics, insecticides, herbicides, and genetic-altering can do to your nervous system?
9. Take vitamin and mineral supplements.
10. Get plenty of sleep. Take naps as needed.
That's my remedy for panic or anxiety attacks.

Im 41. And like all of you ive tried everything. Pills, pot, meditation, sex, drugs, rock and roll, all the herbs, henbane, kava, valerian, hops, shitloads of booze. Anything to just stop my brain from telling me i am going to die. Sleep used to be a joke. I tried all the anti-depressents, narcotics etc. But i have found the holy grail for all of us.
Breakfast - 250 mgs of GABA
Lunch - 250 MGs of GABA
Dinner - 250 MGS of GABA
Before bed - 500 MGs of GABA and 500 MGS of Magnesium(Ionic Fizz is the best)
Its important to know that your panic attack is a sympton of a lie that our brains are telling us. It tells us its time to worry and blast off. Do what i do and tell your brain to STFU. And it hates it when i do something positive that builds self esteem. Running or walking etc.
Now for the last thing that will set you free. GET OUT OF OURSELVES AND INTO SOMEONE ELSE. I cant stress this enough. In the middle of your attack, go but a couple 1$ hamburgers and give them to a homeless man. Tell him you love him and that God does as well. Then shake his or her hand. You will think about that person and the good you did all day. Thats my meditation.

After reading the Linden Method and Trying every desperate medication attempt at a cure out there, I've found that the way you look at your attacks really does affect them. If you stop thinking of them as attacks and start thinking of them as symptoms of a badly trained body, its a little easier to cope. Face it, you've trained your body this way - both in how you react to the anxiety and how you subconciously think about it. It's a cruel reality, but once you realize it, its like a light at the end of a very long dark tunnel.
As for anxiety attacks that hit spontaneously (what I suffered from the most for 10 years) once you get your waking mind and your waking panic attacks under a sort of leash, these will slowly start to subside.
If you really care for your health and body, please dont ever ever ever take prescribed meds unless you're determined. Withdrawal is inevitable at some point with all of them, and it is NOT pretty.

I have had panic attacks since I was 16. I am currently taking xanax for them and I am starting to feel like I am relying on them only. once I had a panic attack so bad that I called 911 at 3:00 in the morning, I had the cops, fire dpt., and meds there....lol by the time they got there I was basically fine. but I found that what relaxes me the most is to be with my family :) I also stay up late watching Disney Movies and dressing up...lol I know I am almost 18 but believe me it helps.....oh! and chewing on ice Pray and I hope that these options work for some of you. God Bless :)

I've been a in a call centre industry and working there is really giving me a stress. Sometimes I don't have any faith in myself any more and I don't want to go out because of it. I've different remedies like watching movies, eating sweets etc. but it doesnt work for me either. A friend started to recommend a meditation audio and I've tried it at home while everything is quiet around me. It works great for me. Its called 'The Journey'. Here's the link if you readers wanted to try for yourself. I would really recommend to you a meditation audio that I've tried. It will guide you in focusing, to get clarity and finding your center, calming yourself. You will experience more than deep relaxation and letting go of stress and anxiety. It done a great deal for me. hope it will do the same to you. You can email me at applessantillan@gmail.com if you want details about the audio.

First I would like to thank those that have posted and given some of their experiences and stories. Reading through the posts actually helped me work through an attack. A reminder that no matter how much it feels like it when you are having an attack, you are not alone…or crazy. ;-)
I have had anxiety and panic attacks for a while. I had them as a child but did not know what they were at the time. As a child, when I had an attack it felt like I was looking through someone else eyes, very surreal. I think my curious nature to see where it was going is the only thing that let me work through the anxiety attack without worse effects. I am currently 31 and still experience attacks. The attacks are also fueled by OCD habits and thought patterns. Especially when it comes to restrictions of choices, physical and mental & emotional constrictions/restrictions; Like catastrophia is various forms. Another example: If I agree or decide to do A and it may restrict me from doing/experiencing B, C and or D. I have a great potential for an attack. That’s life…some would say….unfortunately attacks aren’t logical things or I could have problem solved my way out of them long ago.
What works for me WHEN AN ATTACK IS ONSET….
1. I don’t fight it! It makes it worse.
2. Breathe. Slow, deep breaths. If I feel my breath keep going into my upper chest(throat) only, hyperventilating, I put my hand(s) on the side of my chest or rib cage and try to concentrate my breath to my hands. Sitting/standing up helps the breathing as well.
3. Distracting the senses, in turn changing neg. to pos. thoughts. (Audio/Olfaction/Touch/Visual) …..music (even in background), relaxing or comforting scent, rubbing stone, something fluffy, picture of loved ones (also helps if you have trouble sleeping) For some it may work for a friend to hold your hand. I find if someone tries to hug me when I’m in an attack it makes it worse, but a light touch on the arm or hand doesn’t.
If you are someone that has attacks, it is a good idea to have things close by. MP3 player, something fuzzy your friend gave you on your key chain. Someone else blogged they have plastic baggie with cotton ball soaked in a scent. If you are someone researching for a friend, here are some gift ideas.
4. Pych. I use my own attack's logic against itself. For the most part any logic being fed by your attack won’t be able to stand any line of questioning or reality check.
If my attack is telling me, “It’s not right/perfect, it won’t work.” I tell myself if I’m that worried about it not being right, then I know I will make the time to make it work. “The new job is going to keep you from doing those things.” If those things are that important to me I will find other ways/times to do them. Get yourself out of the attack before making a decision whether the job best works for you. Making major decisions during an attack is not advisable. I have. Not advisable.
5. Give yourself permission to work though an attack. Allow yourself the time. The world will not blow up or melt away if you do.
TO AVOID AN ATTACK
1. Eat well. No sugar, sweeteners, caffeine, sodium, avoid processed foods (as they have many of the previous in them) I know it may be easier said then done, but the more you avoid them the better it will be. Experiment. Side note, I bet your skin will look better too. And you will be able to taste all the flavors in your food more.
2. Exercise. I find if I don’t do something, even just taking a hike a few times a week. I go into mood swings and thoughts that can lead to an attack. For me, I tend to have a lot of energy and if I don’t use it, it goes stale in my body, bogs everything down, then the vicious cycle begins. For those who tend not to be very active, or energy people, or “busy”, exercise (full body physical activity of any sort) helps at least keep you balanced mentally and physically. You don’t have to do a lot, just be consistent in what you do and it will make a difference. Suggest walking/hikes with a partner.
3. Sleep. Restful sleep. I found that taking naps helped. It took the pressure off of ‘you have to sleep now’. ‘You have to make sure you get your 8 hrs’. for some reason just lying on the couch or in a comfy chair for an hour , ½ hour, even 15min is some of the best sleep I get. So when I do go to bed, I sleep a lot better. And taking some breather time before I go to bed, to let the day go. Also helps a lot. I find if I stay up, push myself, until I’m so tried I don’t want to do anything but sleep, and just go to bed, it is not as restful of sleep. Also during the day if I don’t give myself some breather time. Same results.
4. Supplements/Vitamins. There are some great suggestions on the other posts.
2 WEEKS, is a magic timeframe. If you can be consistent with any routine, eating habit for 2 weeks, you’ll notice a difference and also develop a habit in a pos. direction.
I know this was loooong. But I hope it does help. I know it helps me just seeing it all in writing. Side note: If you are questioning your insanity you are probably pretty sane, in a bad spot, but sane. ;-)

I have suffered from anxiety attacks since I was four years old. I clearly remember the first real attack I had. I was lying on my parents floor and I had woken up from a dream where there was this large dog who was dying. When I woke up I started to hyperventilate and I was having sharp chest pain. I must have been a very strange four year old because I went to my parents and informed them I was having a heart attack! lol needless to say they didnt take me seriously. Ive continued to have them on and off since then and I am now 22. Not only do I have the attacks, but sometimes Im in a constant state of panic. All day long the anxiety nags at me like an intruding thought. For no reason at all my heart speeds up and I get dizzy, sometimes I even get hives. The only remedy I have found, and it doesnt always work, is taking a hot shower or a bath. I try to completely clear my head and concentrate on the sound of the water. Its a lot like meditation I guess. I wish people who dont suffer from anxiety understood just how disabling it can be.

I have this. The remedy is simply, easy, and quick. Tell yourself, I'm having a panic attack. I am going to be ok. Things are going to be fine. Take a deep breath. Pray!! Say,God, I'm really scared right now, but I know you are watching over me and taking care of me. Then take a nice, warm bath, or put on some soothing music. Read a book. Try to get your mind off of whatever is scaring you. You will be ok.

take 500mg to 2000mg of niacinamide(not niacin) a day! google it and you'll find more then I can tell you. i've been taking it for about a week and it seems to be helping quite a bit already. it works the same way as valium and similar drugs without the side effects(its not a sedative). many people claim it works better then prescription drugs. Its about $6 for a bottle of 100 500mg caps!!! it could take up to a few weeks so be patient

I suffered from anxiety for about 3 years. I took prescribed meds, natural meds... they help, but do not cure anything! Then I began to be really strict(not harsh) with my excersice and sleep schedule. It changed my life! I worked out 3 times a week with no excuses(pay for a class, that way you force yourself to go) and slept at least 8 hours a day everyday. It has been about six months since I started and I haven't had an episode for 4 months. If you think you don't have time for this, think about all the time you waste having to go to the hospital, doctor or just crying/worrying about it. Now I feel like I have more energy to do even more than I sued to do(student, employee, family, friends, even me time!). Good luck!

for years I suffered with panic disorder and anxiety . I finally ended up seeing a doctor . a good one it turns out. He listened to my problems with it..rapid heartbeat..sweaty palms..fear. and tested my blood sugar...Turns out that low blood sugar is a very common cause for anxiety attacks..Since being diagnosed and treated my problem with panic has all but disappeared.. When I start to feel sick I eat something and the attack subsides..Years later a friend of mine confessed to a fear of driving and leaving her home..it was discovered later during an exam she was diabetic

I have anxiety disorder, and have had panic attacks for years. I am on Celexa for this, but it is also to treat my OCD. I have Xanax for when I do still have a panic attack. I refuse to take this stuff because I used to and I had definate withdrawals from this horrible drug, plus I hate the 'zombie' feeling I had when I did take it. I lost a job thanks to that 'zombie' state. B vitamins make a huge difference. But when I do have a panic attack, I put on some of my favorite music, lay down and massage my stomach.

Suffered from GAD for a number of years and the best thing for me is to lay down on a flat surface and start with diaphramic breathing or belly breathing. Breathing in through the nose while at the same time pushing out your tummy gently, exhale slowly through the nose and bring the tummy back in. Lower your heart rate and just make you feel more in control. Warning: if you get the slighest bit dizzy just breath normally for a second and then go back to the belly breathing until you feel calmer. Remember that it will pass and that you are not crazy, dying, or going to hurt anyone. :-)

Well first I want to start off and say that I don't have a remedy, and I've ready alot of you guys' post. Just reading these calm me down. I have been having these anxiety attacks with my first being in 2006, ever since then they have gotten worse. I'm so glad that in my misery I find hope by reading that I'm not the only one I do pray alot when I feel one coming on and try and breath. These are really starting to take over my life and I also don't like to travel long distances alone. I have a daughter who is 15 months and I really just want to be able to enjoy my ever day life with her instead of having to worry about having an anxiety attack. I'm trying to learn what really triggers them. it seems as if I'm dating someone or on the go I'm fine. Some people just don't understand how serious these are and what they do to the people that suffer on a day to day basis. I'm just glad to see I'm not the only one and I will be trying some of the remedies I've read today God Bless You guys!

I became subject to Panic Attacks back in the 1980's when I started a difficult programming job, one that could make or break my career. I started trying
out different herbs and vitamins, one at a time, over
a period of months to see if anything helped.
One day they had a sale on niacinamide so I bought a bottle of that and started taking it.
It worked perfectly.

hyperventilation and panic attacks
As soon as you feel breathlessness start to come on, immediately start drinking water strait down. Usually 1-2 glasses straight down. I read that one of the side effects of dehydration is hyperventilation. So that would explain why water works so well. It has never failed me.

Hello,
My name is Erica, and I have had panic attacks since I was 13, i'm 24 now. Most people can say their fear or phobia is at least adult.Ever since I was 13 I have been terrified of falling asleep, being alone, or being in the dark. I have tried psychology, psychiatry, self help, guided meditation and drooling medication. I cannot simply avoid my fear, every night I must force myself into a room I know will trigger a several hour long panic attack. I will suffer in silence because others can't understand my fear, and I sometimes am positive I will die before I wake. I know this probably isnt what you want to hear but i needed to share with someone the horrid existence im experiencing. People think im lazy because I stay up late and sleep in all day, the truth is even being in my room in the dark causes me so much anxiety its normally 4-5 am before I fall asleep. Like I said I have tried it all. I love marijuana. I have panic attacks at the thought of falling asleep, which isnt condusive to falling asleep, go figure. I usually smoke (or make banana bread) Right at the first sign of sweating. I love marijuana because not only does it allow your brain to react to the stimuli at a slower pace, it also keeps all your muscles loose, which helps because if yours are like mine, they get done and you feel like youve run a marathon. I hate sleeping and cant take sleeping pills because they have a wicked morning after effect AND I will fight them until they wear off. I know you take a sleeping pill to sleep, well my PTSD wont allow that to happen. I recently went back to the psychologist and he said he wanted to help me re-experience the event, no thank you, once was enough.
Smoke some pot, bake it in to your baked goods, I dont care how you ingest it, but if your having a panic attack, grab a blanket, call that one good friend who understands, and spark a bowl, you can't fight it, you just have to learn to ride the wave of PTSD, good luck my friends

Hi everyone. I've read all your posts and one remedy I have not seen that really helped me in a long term / life changing way was.... hypnosis.
After 4 sessions of hypnosis I was able to access and use a word que on my command to stop bad/fearful thoughts that were causing my anxiety. I use the word que every day. I don't take any medications or use and other remedies and its a long term change in my thinking that will last a lifetime so long as I keep making use of it.

Hi guys. You most likely need more magnesium/calcium/zinc.
I have been there i have done everything you can imagine- doctors, antidepressants, etc. And the solution was easier than i thought. Started to search through the net for natural ways to treat my anxiety attacks. With the antidepressants i had terrible side effects. The doctors prefer to give prescription meds, do not take it before you try the magnesium. You can read a lot about it. I personally bought a supplement from a the Whole Foods market. It has all the 3 in it. It suggests to take 4 veggie capsules a day, but i take only 2 and also B12. I recently quit drinking coffee also instead i drink caffein free teas such as the 'Yogi' brands calming tea which is stress reliever and anti anxiety blend.

Lavender essential oil is good to help with calming when feeling anxious/panic. I usually carry a small bottle with me or put some on a cotton ball and keep it in a zip lock bag. The aromatheraphy really helps to focus the mind. It's kinda like programming the mind to 'calm' once I smell the lavender

I think anyone with moderate to severe anxiety attacks for no apparent reason should be tested for celiac disease. I suffered with anxiety and depression for years and finally found out I'm allergic to wheat. Things are much better now that I'm on a gluten free diet.

Try MSM. Depression runs in my Family and along with it I get panic attacks and just the feeling of being so weak minded at times. Like I can't control my thoughts. Just awful!! I started taking MSM and those panic attacks are gone. Make sure to get optiMSM as that is the Pure MSM. My bottle was 12.00 for 200 Caplets of 1000 mg each. I take 4 a day and they say you can take more. A friend of mine takes 6 Capsules a day and plays golf all the time, always has energy, never gets depressed, no more COPD symptoms, doesn't ever get sick and it cured her Allergies!!! She has more energy than I do and is always on the go. She is 71 years old. I LOVE this stuff!!! (Takes a few weeks to start working full speed).

I have been suffering from anxiety for a while. I was on Paxil for a long time and hated how it made me feel. It took away the worst anxiety but also took away the joy. I am learning to 'go with it' too. I have started driving again after a long period of none at all. I was deathly afraid of having a dizzy spell behind the wheel. I go to the store and I fell dizzy...sweat..heart pounding. etc. I used to run out but now i breathe through it. Try taking an ipod with you. When you start feeling it come on..turn on the ipod..It distracts you ..Anxiety is a path we have to walk down..It isnt pleasant but you can learn to manage it. I did the midwest center program 2 years ago. I havent had a full blown attack since then..and it was something as simple as being told (even though you already know) that you are not going to die..you are not going to pass out...the feelings will pass.. sounds silly but it worked for me

The anxiety was not a daily issue, just sometimes life gets so stress full I needed a little extra help. I started using a product called Relaquil. Relaquil is a natural product that has helped me through these tough times. I have plenty more challenging times, and will continue to use it. I recommend relaquil :)

I suffered with severe anxiety and panic about 15 years ago and pretty much felt like I had it under control -still had panic attacks in certain places or situations but learned to deal with them. The anxiety and panic have started up again and not really sure what triggered it. Experiencing agoraphobia now as well with some places.I think it is bothering me so much because I am angry it came back! I am working through this again and trying to be patient - here is a website that has some free advice from a doctor - www.anxieties.com - amazing advice and has helped me a lot. Also journaling everyday is helpful - put your feelings in writing. It's also just a comfort to read through some of these other posts and know that I am not alone. Thank you

I have been having anxiety and/or panic attacks for a while now. They seem to have started about the time my son was born and I started moving up in the ranks in the military. My son had some medical issues early on that we got through, but it left me so worried all the time. I began to worry about his health all the time, my health and my wifes. I began to worry about 'what if' I lose my job, get arrested, die...etc. What will my family do without my support? Eventually the stress and worrying caught up with me and manifested itself into physical symptoms. I started to clench my jaws, grind my teeth, get dizzy, feel brain fog, and just feel out of it. My blood pressure went up and my heartbeat became very fast. I began to fear visiting the doctor, and was diagnosed with 'white-coat' syndrome. I always felt as if I was losing control, and that life was passing me by. I felt as if I was just watching my life go by and not enjoying it. I covered up most of my symptoms from my family for a long time.
I cured my anxiety by talking it out with myself. Here are some of the things I said:
-You are going to die. It's only a matter of time and there is nothing you can do to stop it. It will happen. You might as well embrace it.
-You are missing your life. You only get one life and it is passing you by. Soon, you will be dead and you will have missed out on everything.
-Nobody gives a s@$t what you are doing, look like, or think. You have to make the impression if you want people to notice you in a positive way.
-Your son is looking up to you. Do you want him to follow your lead and fear everything?
-You are a f@!%ing man. Stand up and fight for your right to live in a positive way. Fight this for your family.
By talking this out with myself, and paying attention to my physical symptoms, I was able to beat it. Before, I just ignored my symptoms and tried to not pay attention to them and hope they would go away. Now, I actively pay attention to my jaws when they clench and relax them. When I feel panicky in a small room with alot of people, I tell myself 'bring it on, I will beat you'. Being able to recognize it and beat it has been the best. I massage my neck, temples, and feet. Hot baths and relaxing music help alot as well. Anything to just unwind and be alone for even a few minutes make the world of difference.
I hope this helps someone else and just know that if I am going through this, anyone can. I am married, have a son, and been traveling the world in the military for the past 13 years. I am extremelly successful in the military, and I am now also happy.

I have suffered with panic disorder since 8th grade. What always helped me was exercise, especially push ups and sit ups, it helps get out alot of energy that builds up. Coffee is alright for me if I drink it only once a day, but if I drink it too close to the time I go to bed I can't sleep. So instead I would drink milk. Watch a ton of funny movies too, laughing makes you feel a lot better.

REmedy For Panic Attacks.
I help people with panic attack problems having been a sufferer myself. Panic attacks are caused by shifting of the solarplexes which is well documented in ancient ayurvedic texts as NABHI CHAKRA or MANIPURA. You can get plenty of references on the internet about this. The center is located behind the belley button. It shifts due to lifting heavy weights, jerky movements, while doing stomach exercising etc. As there is no pain the victim notices nothing. But almost immediately the ill effects are felt depending on how it has shifted.
If the center moves down from itsl ocation the person will have constant loose motions not responding to drugs.
If it moves up there is stubborn constipation not relieved by laxatives. If it moves to the left there is impotence and infertility. If it moves to the right the person gets anxiety attacks.
The main stream doctors are not aware of this problem. Instead they poison the person with all sorts of drugs. A Yoga teacher can cure it in seconds by yogasana and manipulation. There are of course several methods to cure it oneself.
Once it moves back to position the cure as instantaneous as the first attack.
Please contact me at arhari@email.com if you need more details. I am ready to help.

I have suffered from anxiety disorder for almost 3 years now. i have tried many different homeopathic meds and remedies. i still havent found anything that has worked for me 'yet'.i have even tried hypnotherapy. i received some good breathing techniques from the therapy but it didnt help cure anything, it just relaxed me for the time being until another attack came along. i refuse to take any prescription medications as i know it only puts the anxiety at a hault and doesnt actually cure the anxiety. i used to be in and out of the hospital constantly until i realized that everytime i would go to the hospital the doctors would tell me that i have anxiety disorder and need to take a prescribed medication which i will not do. i am always scared that my anxiety is going to start affecting my family. i have lost alot of friends. i basically have no social life anymore due to the fact that i am scared to travel long distances. whenever i would experience a panic attack it was to the extreme. it scared the life out of me (literally). after about a year of having anxiety it got to the point where i was scared to go anywhere by myself. i would have my husband by my side constantly. whenever i have to travel distances now i think in my head that i just want to avoid the situation so that i dont have a panic attack but i would tell myself that im scared of the thought of having to go somewhere and when i force myself to do it i am fine. i realized that its not the place that scares me its the thought of knowing that i have to do it so i just tell myself that i want to do it not that i have to do it and it really helps me. when i get myself into that type of situation i just clear my head of all bad thoughts and think about my beautiful daughter. i take slow breaths in my nose and out my mouth. i concentrate on my breathing and think about the things that make me want to wake up and conquor the anxiety everyday, that is my daughter and my husband. i know that i will find a cure to rid myself of this horrible problem that is taking over my life day by day. i received alot of interesting facts from everyones remedies. thank you all so much. god bless!

I have a number of remedies for Anxiety and/or Stress, starting with my top recomendation and on.
1. Hypnosis/self hypnosis - this has been show to be the most benificial alternative remedy that doesn't involve medication, herbs, supplements ect. You can even hypnotize yourself and there are many programs out there on the internet for that.
2. Blue Vervain - a natural herb that is usually found as a tincture, has no adverse reactions known and promotes relaxation, due to the fact that it is a natural muscle relaxer. It only lasts a couple of hours and needs to be taken several times throughout the day, however. Some may not like the taste of it either, but is better when mixed with tea.
3. Kavaa - a natural muscle relaxer, the strongest I know out there and can be found in a variety of means (ie tea or pills, etc). However, it can cause insomnia and should only be taken in the morning. It can also cause memory lapses and decreased concentration or focus. It should not be taken every day, and only in intervals with at least a week off every month. The positive benifit is that it puts you in a very relaxed state, can take away muscle spasms, twitches, rashes and other stress related problems. I suggest Yogi Kavaa Stress Relief Tea with Kavaa.
Other Herbs for Anxiety/Stress:
Gotu kola
Passion flower
Skullcap

My panic attacks started in 1990 till 1995 for some reason they went away. For the past year now I have been getting attacks again now they are so bad that I can't go anywhere alone. I make sure that I am never alone one of my adult children is with me 24-7. I am a 47 yr old single female, I keep my children from haveing a life because they have to be by my side to comfort me when I have an attack, my kids do not understand what I am going through they only see how scared get. I do a lot of praying, these attacks keep me humble. When I have an attack I pray out loud & tell God I'm scard I don't know why I'm going through this Lord but I need you to comfort me I have no one to turn to but you. Sometimes holding one of my grandkids helps. I try to tell myself 'your not gonna die, it'll be over soon' but it gets pretty scary. I just went on a trip we were on the road for 16 hours away from home for 10 days, I had 1 bad panic attack I almost ruined our trip. My daughter got a womans multi vitiman I took as we started our trip which seem to help. I know that God will heal me & my family from this generational curse.

I have been fighting with anxiety for almost a year now. I have been on prescribed drugs, but they haven't done anything, I have yet to conquer my anxiety, but something that I feel really helps is fresh air. Whether it's opening a window or actually going outside. Also deep breaths imagining that with every breath you are breathing out anxiety and breathing in fresh, pure air. This is the only thing that has seems to help me so far. Best of luck to everyone.

I am 70 years old and have been fighting panic attacks off an on since about age 20. After a lot of therapy
I found most women who suffer panic attacks have been abused. Talk therapy helps but when something really stressful triggers you it's back to the therapist again. Drugs work and they are better than doing crazy things when you are in a severe panic attack.
I like herbs and sometimes they work. Kava and lemon balm and valerian have all worked somewhat.
BUT there are just times when nothing but Xanax works.

I am someone who is in severe manic depression right now in my life. My little eleven year old angel (Whom) was my only child passed away 35 days ago. I am having a very difficult time in how to cope with this, and I think my panic attacks are even more unbearable because my precious little girl left me so unbelievably sudden. I didn't have time to prepare myself, and most importantly I didn't have time to say goodbye to my baby.
My family, friends, and the man that I love so dearly are completely NOT knowing how to deal with me, or how to help me. I feel like everyone is trying to either figure out how to deal with me, or they are just there (More less) feeling guilty for me; so that's why they are around. I feel like they are doing it more for themselves.
The man I love and whom I have cared for for such a long period of time, is so selfish that even when I call him crying at night....he doesn't answer; and will tell me the next day that he is busy with his nephews (Who are precious as well), but it just hurts. It hurts because the VERY few people I have turned too... Keep letting me down. NOW! I mean, I don't want no one to baby me, but I find it so very selfish of him and a friend who I have always been there to just treat me that way.
They see that this is my most horrible time in my life, and they are more concerned about having to deal with me than to really just be there for me.
I miss my daughter so much that I just pray to God to let me die. There is no point for me to go on right now. There is no hope and there is no happiness anymore.
Please someone help me. Please.

Hi, i have panic disorder, ive had it sense i was 16, im 22 now. the first thing my doctor did was start me on an anti-depressant which helped for a while, but it seemed to wear off once i started college. so i decided to try the mind over body method, which worked almost completely i learned what triggers my attacks, smells, voices, even temperature change! so learn what causes them. then find a natural way to cope, i dont reccomend taking diasapham or valumes or any sort of pill like that because you will become dependant on the pill to stop your attacks, not yourself. if they are very severe, take a minamal amount, just enough to calm you. i learned to deal with mine through breathing techniques i learned in pillaties...i avoid caffiene at all costs, green tea seems to really trigger them for me for some reason. also, i take a multi-vitamin daily which has helped significantly!! its scientifically proven that a lack of B vatamins causes the misfire of neurlogical signals to the muscles. just google it, it will amaze you.
i also suffer from severe depression and migrains and when my neurologist put me on neurotriptiline (sp) in a very very small dose, it has helped significantly...its been about 2 months sense i had an attack!

Pick two corners in a room in your house. Take several deep breaths, inhaling through your nose and exhaling through your mouth, while your eyes waggle between these two corners. This 'eye waggle' is similar to watching a ping-pong match.

When you start to feel a little bit calmer, drink all of the tea. (I perfer to drink green tea, doesn't taste to great, but it will make you calm.)

Peppermint infusion!
Nourish your body instead of trying to fix it. Get enough sleep of course. For those with issues with sleeping (including me) peppermint works for that too. Hops is a strong sleep aid as well. Drink a hops tea before bed.
Everyone has different symptoms for panic attacks. Mine involve uncontrollable tremors. I either get very hot or cold. The air feels thick, too thick to breathe.
I am fairly new to all of this. I have only had these attacks at this level for a year. They are frequent especially the week before menstration. I have at least two a week. It was almost everyday for a while.
I have only had one in the past four months! No meds. I don't like pills. Something about swallowing a compact powdered chemically designed in a lab sounds mighty unnatural. I have been drinking peppermint infusion. An infusion is four cups boiling water to one ounce herb. Let sit covered for at least four hours.
Peppermint tea is nice but it doesn't extract enough goodies from the herb.
Nettle and oatstraw are excellent sources of nourishment for a strong body and energy.
