I'm a dentist and if your tooth hurts more at night then in the daytime, or if its just killing you all the time, your tooth is probably abscessed and needs either to be extracted or to have a root canal treatment (preferred). There are some dentists who will call you in a prescription for an antibiotic at no charge if you promise to return for treatment. If they do this for you, make an effort to see the dentist as soon as you can afford it. It usually costs LESS than $200 to pull a tooth with no insurance. If you can afford the luxuries of a cell phone and cable t.v. then shame on you if you can't afford this. If you really are nearly homeless, there are free dental clinics in nearly every town. Until morning, dose up with Ibuprofen (Advil) , a warm compress, a lil' booze will help too...then call an emergency dentist.

You have to be kidding about $200. I had a dentist charge me $111 today just to write a prescription for an antibiotic and tell me she couldn't do anything for me, it would have to be done by an oral surgeon. What century are you in?

And what do you do when you have no money and the free clinic tells you it will be 6 weeks before they can see you? I called every dentist in town and they are selfish. I am a Nurse and would donate my time for anyone i could.

I am very low income, but have had an abscessed tooth for about 6 months, my aunt paid for me to go to a dentist he charged me 100 for an xray and to say he wasnt comfortable messing with it, no dentist in my town will take a medical card, so i would have to drive 2 hours to get to a dentist, plus have to wait 2 months on a waiting list, the hospital doesnt do dental work here so just because u can afford it u shouldnt judge other people who use home remedies cause no there isnt a free clinic in every town thank you

I am appalled at the way thus dentist is judging people for not taking away necessities such as a phone because they are to greedy to work out a payment plan for the needy. Everyone's situation is not the same for some people with disabilities and children a phone is a necessity my advice to this dentist is to take some ETHICS classes or do they even offer those anymore? If not maybe a career in horticulture is better for you since you obviously have no compassion for your fellow man.

Shame on you Mr. Greedy Dentist for offering to cut somebody's hand if they have a wound on it(coz cutting will cost them less than curing). And by the way, these home remedies DO cure, so your profession is threatened by these herbal gifts of Nature.

...Says the Dentist. No disrespect, doctor, but obviously if people are desperate & looking for remedies like tea bags & garlic, they either are too terrified to go to the dentist [which is understandable], or they simply CANNOT afford to go to the dentist. Not everyone has that 'luxury' of being able to get medical treatment whenever they need it. When you're poor & in pain, you have to improvise.
